Attack at the kick off

Back in the day (2005 to be precise!) Wests Tigers had a great strength and successful tactic where Pat Richards was able to have the ball on a string at the kick off, and many attacking raids started right there!

On the attack follwing up a great re-start of play.

Momentum came our way all the time, team enthusiasm was there for all to see, the players always knew that opportunity was just in front of them.

I reckon we need to get back to doing the simple things better, then the results look after themselves.

I really hope our game re-starts are part of the coaching programme.

 Must have blinked the last Year against Souths hey mate… the Ayshford to Moltz of the kick-off.......you can re-live it .......check out Moltzen's vid highlights on his profile......

More of that........I'm with you T_1..........

Right you are, Geo, wasn't it great to watch !!

But that looked more lucky than actually played for, if you get what I mean.

I suppose I'm looking for more structure and playing to strengths as a habt, not just a shock tactic!

Yeah that try was amazing

I was at the game && was down after we let the rabbits score then straight off the kick off we answer back ! i was goin off my head !

But i agree with T_1, more structure would be great.

I still wanna see us kick the ball on the first tackle after recieving the kick off, maybe not do it in a tight game though.

Sheens said we were gonna do it to the Roosters in 05 if Pat Richards got the ball from the kickoff.

From what I remember Toddy Payten threw the ball out wide when he got it instead.

I think the biggest factor with this being successful is the difference between Pat Richards' kicks and Benji Marshalls. Benji is far from accurate with his kick offs and most of the time looks like he is struggling to get the right depth/height for his kicks let alone being able to use them to start a set play/attacking raid.

not to mention patty was using an illegal kicking tee that was banned after melb complain about it. I can't recall him doing another one of those classic kick off's after that storm game.

No-one can get as much hang-time as Richard used to. The team would have time to kick-off, grab a cup of tea and then run down field and tackle the opposition on their tryline.

best kick off must of been at campo when richards struck the post and halatau recovered it..only to score 2 plays after

Worked out well but a metre either side and it was a penalty to them. He did kick quite a few out on the full.

we've managed to get away from doing those as we now cant even find the touch line when receiving a penalty..
