Ayshford

ayshford was always going to improve with the more experience he got. i just hope sheens doesnt move him to lock/second row next year
 
I was one of the few saying that it may be time for Daniella to get a gig in the centres.

But what a back end of the season from Blake.

I was shutting down all the key players and proving hard to contain himself.

Blake and Manchild….what a centre combo and they are both babies as well.

I think some people are well ahead of thereselves. Ayshford had a very below average season, and played well the last 4 games. Without being hasty, I believe the Ayshford/Ryan combination was one of the most unthreatening centre pairings going around in the NRL. I dont remember a specific time this year where they legitimately busted through. So I think ill reserve a bit of judgementm and see how Ayshford fairs with Tuquiri/Tuiaki outside him next year.

Jennings and Lawrence are lightyears ahead of him and the usual suspects of Lyon, Gasnier, Cooper will always come up in origin selection.

Totally agree with you hadds.

Ayshford has a lonnnnng way until origin selection, we were VERY reliant on Lawrence's side this year.

So for now I got one word for Ayshford: "NO"…..... Not trying sound harsh by the way :wink:

I think Ayshford has a long line in front of him. State of Origin is not about you, but alot more about who else (alla Farah, but also if you consider Adam Mogg)

But yes, if you are saying he is of Origin quality, I think its a fair call. Be interesting how he backs it up next year and keeps improving. I'd probably say Dwyer is more likely for Origin than Ayshford.
 
Big future and much improved but not within a mile of Origin.

I would prefer some more pace in the centres,
 
Why are people questioning his speed? Carney is one of the fastest guys in the league and he barely caught up to ayshford after his 60/70 metre intercept try. Yes ayshford did have a headstart but I still think he's fast and his ability to carry players on his back for 5-10 metres is amazing. Honestly I think lawrence had quite a poor season considering his capibilities but I suppose that's just me.

Carney was running with him for the last 20 metres just took ages to take him. Maybe Blakes not slow, but hes definetly not quick, or maybe he just doesnt show it. I dont remember a time all year he was able to stand someone up, or just burst through a whole at pace and craete somthing for us.

Lawrence's big problem is he doesnt get enough ball and hes not a player who goes looking for the ball. His hitups are more effective than any other player in the team, but sadly we hardly see any of them. And this isnt just recently due to his injury i think its been somthing in his game for a while.
 
Ayshford is quicker than he looks because of his long stride and his strength is pretty amazing for a kid, and Lawrence is still riding the roller coaster of a young player learning the game and coping with injuries. Chris may sneak into the 4 nations sqaud but if not SOO will beckon next year. At the moment I think only Jennings is in front of him for selection. Blake is still a way off rep footy but if he really wants it…

Both are quality, and remember both are still young. Please leave them where they are and bring on 2011!!

My thoughts exactly mate…Blake is very deceptive in his speed. He has a sort of rolling lumbering style that seems quite hard to defend against.

The way he carried Carney on his back for that try in the first semi was brilliant. Remember he was also sick that week!

He is very promising.

blake has really impressed everyone the last 2 months. i wasnt to keen on him being in the centres at the start of this year/back end of last but now he is reaching his potential and with a good off season he could be incredible
 
The blokes who did not rate Ayshford are the same people who didn't want Liam back!!

They can only register size or speed - and are blind to the value of genuine footballers who just get better over time!!

Mark my words - and those of another genuine footballer named Todd Payten (who some of the fleas also wanted gone this season) - this kid is the real deal and is an old-school instinctive player with a load of talent and intelligence!!!

Red …every one is entitled to their opinion....

Even the Coach said.....Ayhsford's place in the side was in danger mid season...To his credit he lifted his form at the backend and his class shone through...

As for Toddy...well IMO him missing from the Dragons game is the reason Wests Tigers did'nt raise the Proven/Summonds trophy this year...

Which game/s did Ayushford and Ryan play together as the centre pairing?
 
I don't know how people are saying that Ayshford was poor this year.
By any standard, Lawrence was the one that was poor.

I've just gone over the stats for the first half of the year Rounds 1-13\. Keeping in mind that Ayshford was injured for Rounds 12,13 and half of 11, the stats were:

Ayshford: 1 t/a, 17 t/b, 153 tackles, 5 offloads, 2 linebreaks
Lawrence: 2 t/a, 26 t/b, 174 tackles, 5 offloads, 11 linebreaks

NOTE: Lawrence was BEHIND Ayshford in all those stats (except for linebreaks) until he got injured in the Souths game. In the following games against the Knights and the Warriors, Lawrence received a heap of ball and his stats skyrocketted, overtaking Ayshford. All things considered, i'd say it was a very even first half of the year.

I'll sit down and do the second half of the season soon, but even from this far out i'm convinced that Ayshford had a great season. His one-on-one wrapping defence saved countless tries and ultimately games for us. With robbie and benji's pet plays revolving around Lawrence, it's no supprise that he gets the spotlight.
