Ayshfords defence

Don't want to sound negative after a tough win from the boys but it's two weeks in a row now that Ayshford has been shown up one on one in defence and it has led to points, he needs to fix it fast, i'm sure other teams will point it out on video and we'll see more attack come his way on our line.

i'd have to say that ayshfords defence was alot better this week than last week! hopefully with a good injury free week and plenty of extra defense work he'll be strong against the dogs!

I think he did a great job against tonga
only 1 try when tonga's been in great form
3 tries 125m 9 tb last week
1 try 100m 3 tb against ayshford

Remember Lawrence used to be a shocking defender? In one off season he fixed his defence and is now one of the strongest defenders in the team. Ayshford's only had what, 20 first grade games? Give him a little more time and he'll be a great attacking and defensive centre.

He will only improve. Yes, he's missing some tackles, we've seen Lawrence do it too when he was younger, but like Lawrence, Blake is smart and will work on his game and will still fill out some more and get stronger. He had the one bad miss on Tonga but overall kept him in check. He'll be up against Morris next week which will be a good test.

I thought asford defended very well. I have huge wraps on him, so you won't her any negative comments here.

Considering he was pretty much confirmed not to be playing due to injury, I reckon he went well last night. Will only improve over time.

Exactly right. I was surprised to see that he didn't even have any sort of strapping on his knee. He looked to run freely in the lead up to Heighningtons try. A massive recovery and when we have so many problems with injury, it was great to see him out there.

I thought Ayshford was pretty good tonight, apart from that one miss on Tonga.

Rest of his game was sound.

Spot on. The kid is solid. Sure Tonga got passed him with a twist and a turn, but even the best defensive centres on their day are capable of the odd miss. Ayshford has displayed and shown more defensively than what Dean Collis ever provide on that right edge. The kid is still raw, is still learning and is continuously improves week to week. I look forward to watching his ongoing development.

I thought it was a great performance regardless of injury.

Especially considering the re-shuffled defence on that side when Moltzen came off. Really covered his man well and his decision making really aided his inside and outside men

We need to stick with him. Not many young centres come into first grade and handle it defensively week in week out. His problems can be fixed. He seems to be getting caught too far on the inside of his opponant leaving him clutching a bit.He needs to show more faith in his inside man and i believe this will allow him to be in a better position to tackle his man..

I thought he was pretty good against the cowboys. Last week he was terrible.

He does need some work on his defence but as everyone has stated he deserves more time.

I agree with the general consensus of the thread. Ayshford was lucky to be playing and he performed very well. Tonga scored one try and he is in great form. The Crocker miss wasn't the best attempt but this weeks effort was much better.

He did a great job defending Tonga on the left fringes there on Saturday.

He obviously knew that he'd need to aim up to have a chance of stopping Tonga from close range and must have done some serious homework throughout the week.

Also remembering that he played with a knee injury and was considered a small chance of playing mid week even adds to my praise for his efforts.

There is nothing wrong with Ayshford's defence. He made 22 tackles last night and held Tonga well, considering the form he has been in.
He's only played 19 first grade games. I think he is a great player.
