Marshall Magic I did not state he was drunk He was thrown out of at least 1 establishment that night Fact . Why would stewart say he was drunk and then recind statement through his lawyers ???

No idea why he would say that, but the reasoning the NRL came up with was flawed, they suspended him because of the allegations against him, and used the excuse he was drunk to fall back on as the sexual assault allegations were just that, allegations. Carney blew .053 the day after a bender (would've been much higher the previous night) and was not suspended by the NRL for "being intoxicated," (add to the fact Carney has a history or alcohol related incidents, Stewart was a clean skin) despite actually committing a crime (unlike Brett Stewart). The NRL made a complete mess of the Brett Stewart incident (although Manly did agree to the punishment the NRL set down then, so they probably shouldn't whinge about it now), and gave into the Telegraph and other sensationalist media scrutiny, rather than just letting the legal system run its course.

Marshall Magic Don't get me started on Carney He should be in jail after 3rd time DUI Agree that NRL were looking for excuses as to whole Manly fiasco from 09 But they deserved it In my whole 40 odd years of life have I seen or heard of a person hitting a sponsor all was saying that why bring Benji into that argument why not say something about carney a week earlier ??

They are all the same. The DT is no different to Karl Stefanovic & Tracey Grimshaw… They just have to keep prying and get that 1 last story/headline. Karl is still carrying on about insurance companies, giving false hope to many un-insured in Qld...

The NRL should censor Manly for thier attempts to hijack the Marshall issue by raising the Stewart Saga again... Manly is stacked with media savvy identities who continually play these games.

Bombarding the media with "poor Manly" stories hardly constitutes as being media savvy. It's also hardly media savvy when no one gives a rat's rear end about that club except for their mentally unhinged supporter base. I see Manly in the paper and I read straight past it. They are on par with Easts and Parramatta.

I do agree they should be given a clip around the ear for bringing past indiscretions up though, as it's been dealt with. But then again, that will give Hasler something else to [This word has been automatically removed] about then, won't it? :unamused:

The thing with Brett Stewart and being found not guilty, this means that his actions could not be determined to be illegal, that is different, to the NRL deciding on the balance of probabilities they were inappropriate as per the player conduct guidelines in contracts.
The NRL deemed it was the latter, the court found him not guilty (which BTW is different to innocent) on the first.
Manly carrying on about it still is IMO, definitely not in the best interest of Brett Stewart, I had not even thought about the alleged misconduct in ages before Manly reintroduced to the newspapers.

after hearing what Gallop said last night He asked to arrange a meeting following day and Stewart went on holidays \overseas (unsure )and did not want one . If he probably stayed issue may not have occurred the way it did

I think there is one major difference that a lot of people aren't pointing out. Stewart (and Watmough) were actually at a NRL function, meaning they were technically at work. Carney and Marshall weren't. To be that is a major factor.

It would be the same as if you got drunk at a company function compared to on your own time.

The thing that is Gallop's downfall was that Watmough was drunk and slapped a sponsor that night but wasn't suspended. You could make a case that Watmough wasn't the face of the NRL, and therefore shouldn't be held to the same standard as Stewart, but it's really a weak argument.

It's obvious that Stewart was suspended also on the basis of the allegations.

But dredging up something that can't be taken back does no one any good. Hasler should realise that. It wasn't the 4 game suspension that ruined Stewarts career, it was the court case. The NRL had no control over that.

No matter how obvious it was, the NRL always reiterated the official line that Stewart was suspended for alcohol related events prior to the alleged assault and not the assault itself.

Manly have no recourse to say that he was suspended for something he was acquitted of, as that was never the official line stated by the NRL. Hasler is just a sook and always good for a whinge.
