BACKROWERS IN 2012

Will we be short in the backrow next year, this is how i see it.

Front row- galloway, woods, groat and bell
backrow- blair, ellis, heigo, with fulton and bmm on the bench.

Can anyone see any other backrowers that sheens would use if we get injuries, would have liked to have kept flannagan after the way he finished the season.

Your thoughts please.

hopefully we keep moors. bell can play 2nd row too. reddy is probably big enough for the 2nd row. i would rather keep ayshford in the centres.

Blair would be more beneficial in the back row running good lines off the halves.

I thought Al Shirnack played well when he had to fill in this year. He would be my first pick to fill in the backrow beyond that list.

I'm more worried about our front row. I really think Sheensy is going to shift one of the back rowers like Blair or Ellis there and just have Bell in State Cup for depth.

11.Blair
12.Ellis
13.Heigno

Blair will be used in the back-row. Why pay 500 grand for a guy and waste him in the front row?

about Fulton, i think the club would have been more intent on off-loading him had Dwyer not been injured

Backrowers as I see it are:

Ellis;
Heighno;
Fulton;
BMM;
Shaun Spence;
Al Schirnack;
Jason Schirnack;
Nu Akeripa.

Why pay good money? Because he is versatile enough to play both positions.

I know Blair has been listed as Prop on the Tigers acquisition sheets and Sheensy also dropped a comment at one of the Post-match press conferences about giving Ellis a 'taste of things to come' when he was moved to the front row. So both have a possibility of being there in 2012.

Plus, $500k is a nothing figure. It was what his managers we asking, not what we paid.

I'll be interested to see what Sheensy decides.

after BMM the rest dont fill me with any great hope. I believe the lack of depth will hurt us next year.

If our young guys step up and play well we'll be ok. If not then we'll have problems.

I've been impressed with Woods. He gets through plenty of work and doesn't seem to make many amateur mistakes or get too phased by the big moments. That leaves BMM and Groat.

Groat has taken his chances and showed signs of massive potential. His upper body strength is quite phenomenal. I recall seeing him take down some big opponents and slamming them to he ground like they were 70kg wingers. He doesn't seem to have the same penetration once he hits the defensive line as Woods does. Maybe he needs to work on his leg strength and drive?

BMM has frustrated and disappointed me for a while. He looks big and really strong but he's coming along more slowly than I would have liked. If Groat and BMM can step up we'll looking solid. I'd also keep Shirnack in the wings. He doesnt strike me as the kind of player who's ever going to be much more than a filler but the times he was called in to the first grade side to cover injured players he did a very solid defensive job.

Even if we have a good run with injuries in 2012 we can expect to have 3 forwards out at the same time at some stage. I think Reddy is a good idea as backup 2nd rower. Itoo am more worried about our prop situation if we have injuries.

What I liked about Shirnack was that he showed some mongrel in defense, which is something that I think we have lacked. But I know he'll only be a fringe player, a "gap filler", so I won't be upset if I didn't see him next year.

TBF BMM missed last years offseason and the first 8 or 9 rounds, that will severly hamper a young players development, end of the year he was playing better.

I don't really understand the concern about back-row depth. What's different about next year compared to the team this year?

Obviously losing Simon Dwyer is a blow, but we've added Adam Blair. In terms of actual numbers nothing has changed.

If there's a concern about forward depth, it's in the front row front row, given that we'll be losing Bryce Gibbs, Andrew Fafita and Todd Payten and have only added Matthew Bell.

Good point about BMM and I agree. I re-watched the Titans game last night and BMM made several good charges. He was as good in attack as any forward on the ground for one of the periods that he was on.
