Though there was obviously some premature excitement from when we signed James Roberts, I've honestly not been enthused about the prospect of our attack since JAC, Teddy and Simona were in the team. It's why I personally wouldn't mind us going for someone like Hammer in a trade with Luciano. (Like someone else said Nanai and Luki aren't signed with them, so why not offer them regardless).
No disrespect but until we can successfully promote from within - which may be one or two years away - the club should be steering away from Taane Milne, Mahe Fonua, Joey Leilua and Momirovski type signings until our spine is more settled, or at least playing decent footy together.
I think the problem with Roberts was he was getting ball at the line and couldn't use his speed to do anything. Not sure if he was on the side with Luch, but he always held the ball so the backs couldn't get a sniff.
Early ball is the key with roberts
Don't dare to dream mate, I didn't see Roberts speed in attack or defence....
For a bloke who's apparently up there with the quickest in the game, I didn't see him run down anyone. Or anywhere near a random line break...
He needs to change his name to "Jimmy will Jog" because he barely broke out of a canter all year.
Centres are also supposed to create space with the ball... Saw none of that either.
He looks confused out there, I'd almost bet he can't see - and he's not telling anyone.
Was similar when my eyes started going and I was playing tennis or cricket, Timing and everything is off and you can't put your finger on it.
Selecting Roberts to first grade would be a huge mistake and I honestly cannot see him relishing playing reserve grade at all.
Everyone seems to love him, in the playing group.
He seems quiet and reserved but if you follow the players on IG, he's an absolute crack up.
I think he's good for team morale much like Beau Ryan was.
Daresay he has a job with us outside of playing when he hangs it up, with the indigenous pathways.
He's a guy that's done it all (nearly) and seen it all.... the highs and the lows. The "do's and the donts". His knowledge and mentorship could be very valuable to the next generations coming through.
I don't think he offers a lot on the field at first grade level.
