Balmain 2012 SG Ball//Harold Matts squads

What I like about Balmain's SG Ball squad for 2012 is that it will be chockers full of local talent. There are 3 or 4 players who have come from other districts but have played previously in balmain Junior Rep Teams so I would class them as locals now. In total there are only 4 or 5 out of district players of which most will find it difficult to make the final cut.

Their coach Andrew Webster is also a local having played 2nd grade for Balmain a few Moons ago. Getting some genuine pride in the Balmain jersey may make the difference for this team this year, I can't wait too see how they go.

Looking forward to watching the next generation of Wests Tigers in SG Ball.
How's your boy going Flash ?

I think Balmain should have a great year this year Top 4 finish.
Can't see Wests making the top 8.

Hey Black&White,
I am very happy with the way things are going at Balmain. The boys have been training very hard and everyone is impressed with the coach. They have a lot of attacking options and will be very hard to hold out, there isn't a weak position in the back line and there is plenty of depth aswell.
Their only concern IMO is the lack of depth in the front row, we just need some luck with injuries and we will be OK.
My young bloke has been putting in the effort and should go well this year, he has put on 10kg and is one of the strongest backs in the squad so fingers crossed.

Balmain Harold Matts defeated the Bulldogs 28-16

Balmain SG defeated the Bulldogs 36-8 , no goalkicking in either game.

The Bulldogs double booked and also played the Sharks so the Tigers played a mix of Development and Rep teams. Would of loved to have played their top teams but wasn't to be, Balmain also started to cut players yesterday and will finalise their squads after they smash the Bunnies next week.

Matts–-balmain 28 bulldogs 16
SG------balmain 36 bulldogs 8
Matt's-- bulldogs 16 cronulla 4
SG------ bulldogs 28 cronulla 12

Good results, nice start.

I know I've asked a few times about this bloke, but how did Luke Brooks go coming back with injury, no ill effects??

any unexpected strong performers?

Luke won't play any of the trials at this stage but isn't too far off.

It was a bit of a patchy performance this week with some key players missing due to the 20's trial. Rumour was that 5 palyers were cut after the Bulldogs game and a few more put on notice. Front Rower Paea Manaki was impressive in his first game and Salesi Funaki scored 2 or 3 tries with some very strong running.
Defensively a couple of players were disappointing but overall a solid effort in defense.

Was planning to head down and watch the rep's trial this saturday, yet with all the rain that's falling (I'm on the moist central coast and assume the sogginess stretches south to Marsfield) I was wondering whether the Balmain v Souths trials set down for TG Milner might be moved.
The Eastwood ground does get a bit swampy and the rah rah gent's wouldn't be keen to have their surface chopped up in early Feb.
Anyone got any inside info on a possible switch ?

They are planning to play on the top oval which is on a bit of a slant so should be OK unless we get major rain, although they called off the Manly Norths trial at the same ground last week.

Thanks flash … i'll be heading down to have a look.

Whilst this thread is about the Balmain reps, I was also wondering how the Wests teams have been shaping up ...
Someone a few posts back mentioned that the Magpies SG Ball team probably wont make the semis - how've they gone in the trials ? Are they playing this weekend ?
