Balmain Leagues Club Receivership

@Ric Sissons said:
Balmain Football Club members need to know the actual financial position of the Club. The AGM has not happened yet this year. The Board needs to call a meeting of club members as soon as possible to explain the situation. We need information. Then we can decide if and how we launch a campaign to Save Balmain Tigers. We did it before with Stop the Rot. But in all this we also need the NRL to guarantee the Tigers name stays as part of Wests Tigers and games continue to be played at Leichhcardt.

Congratulations Leichhardt Council and the NIMBYs of Rozelle

The blood will be on their hands and their hands alone

No, we can't lay this on Council not allowing Rozelle Village towers. There was no way in hell that was ever getting approved, not by Leichardt council (or any council this side of Surfers), not by successive State Labour and Liberal govts who had the power to over rule council and not by CASA, who would have had to redirect flight paths to accomodate the monstrosity.

Balmain Tigers screwed up badly by trusting Benny Elias' dodgey developer mates. 20 Stories in Rozelle? They'd have had a better chance of moving Michael Jackson's f@cking Neverland ranch piece by piece to Leichardt Oval. It was never going to happen. Balmain Leagues was bankrupt the moment they agreed to the stupidity.

What Rozelle village did by attaching themselves to a broke football club was to try and blackmail local council and the community into approving the development. Let us build our preposterous tower block or your local sports club goes broke. Well the towers were never getting built, and the club was broke anyway. Sad but true.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we all need to kick Benny Elias. Quite often.

Plenty of media wanting to talk to Mr Elias this afternoon with no luck ,gone to ground one thinks ..very sad affair this mess!

And they will be the first to complain when the Tigers start cutting their ties to Leichardt and playing more games elsewhere

No they won't. I've lived on the Balmain peninsula since 2006 and I can safely say that the kind of people who campaigned against the development either couldn't give a toss if the Tigers had any connection to the area or would be actively pleased if they didn't.

I wont argue with your argument that the football club made some stupid decisions and overreached, but this is the exact same development approach that has been successfully applied to across sydney and it works. Meriton, for example, have two towers (V in Parramatta and Centrum??? in Chatswood) that were approved at lower heights, then they reapplied with a much more ambitious designs. When both went to respective councils, a midway point was agreed and the towers are now under construction.

Regarding the CASA, their argument was drawing the longest of bows. There is a 330RL blanket limit across the Sydney Basin and the approach to Runway 16L had a safety margin that at its greatest extent scraped the top of the envelope. All of this is manageable.
Instead of building 30 stories, build 25?

But no, every step of the way there has been nothing but militant activism against this project from Leichhardt Council, particularly their funding of RRAG.

Is Benny Elias still a director of Rozelle Village ?

Anyone know who the directors are or who has ownership of the company ?

Ben elias sold his involvement after he was told by Leichhardt council that while he was involved it would never get up!!!!

I had lived in Newtown for quite some years before they folded in 1983\. By 1983 the working class people had been moving out of Newtown and were being quickly replaced by a so called "higher class" of people. Exactly the same has been happening in the Balmain/Rozelle area. Most of the new residents are nouveau rich and most interested in spending their spare time sipping lattes in local cafes.

It must be a slow news day but I did hear on the Wireless that the Mayor of Nimbytown PUT his support behind the Tigers to remain a solvent Identity, wasnt the Mayor one of the first Narcs to circumvent the development.

There appears to be a lot of Western Suburbs supporters around here who are related to Nostradamus….

15 yrs and people are still separating the supporter base. Guess some will just never be able to see us as one.

How many around here would be up for a crowd funding type venture that "MAY" help the club out of hole providing the crooks that are overseeing things now are well away from it and yes I'm talking about people with names starting with B.
There have already been suggestions of this on twitter, so I have seen.

Herald reported - Balmain Tigers given 24 hours grace. Receivers held off until 5pm tomorrow

Plenty of time. Myself and Theo Loog have packed our spare livers and we are on our way. Massive 22 hour session coming up….

It will be sad day if Balmain go under and really puts doubt on the Wests Tigers medium to long term survival. I particularly don't like the idea of not having Balmains two votes on the board. If the Independants decided to get nasty, Balmain and Magpies directors could join together and vote them down 4-3\. But without Balmain, the Independants are in the drivers seat and could change the face off our club.

It's in everyone's interests for Balmain to survive and continue to contribute to the Wests Tigers.
