As has been said before, people probably shouldn't be making judgements unless they know the full details, which no doubt aren't exactly contained in a newspaper report.
I've actually asked this question of a board member before, and they told me the exact same line as was given at the AGM, that they have to pay an administration fee to Rozelle Village, and have not paid anything to Ben Elias as an individual. What happens to the money after that is none of Balmain's business. Some other people clearly take a more cynical view of this and are calling them liars, but I tend to take people at their word. If what Munk is saying is true, these payments have been going to Rozelle Village and through to Elias, but now they've been instructed to pay Elias directly.
In all honesty, as a member of both the Football and Leagues Clubs since the day of my 18th birthday, I don't have any issue with this. It's quickly forgotten that Elias put up the cash himself to keep the club alive for the past 5 years. The money he's getting now is not at a profit, he's getting back some of what he put on the line.
That's just my 2 cents, and I accept anyone who wants to criticise that, but I think we need to start trusting that the people we elect to be in charge of the club will always do the best for the club, rather than taking a cynical view to every decision that is made.
