Balmain off Tigers board, but will help pick new coach

The western suburbs side and the NRL are trying to be as diplomatic as possible in the hope they dont lose the Balmain fan base when everything goes pear shaped. Its been widely documented that Balmain has no chance of paying off the debt before next September. The NRL knows the JV will fall apart within 12 months if they are relying on the western suburbs fans and a few of the remaining Balmain fans turning up to games. There are already a large bunch of fans who are turning away in light of the news that the Balmain side is going to be dissolved. As we get closer to the deadline there will be a lot more i dare say. Either way the NRL wins. If the wests tigers can manage to attract a fan base then all good and well, but if not then its the perfect excuse to move the team out of an area that has demolished league with soccer and AFL. After all the rubbish that fans have put up with this year you can understand a lot of people losing patience. Ive been a season ticket holder for 25 years as a WT and Balmain supporter. I take my family to most games every winter, but **im a wests tigers fan**, not a western suburbs fan. If the Balmain identity is removed i will not be supporting yet another hybrid of my team. The NRL can stick it where the sun dont shine.

You sure about that? Because you sound like a Balmain fan.

What a massive crock of horse manure

We are the WT's

Do people understand that the NRL owns the name , we can't change it to Wests ,Balmain, Wa Wa Nee ,Pseudo Echo or any other ridiculous name you can think of

I just wish the Balmain and Wests supporters would stop this junk that either JV member will takeover

WE ARE THE WESTS TIGERS AND IF YOU CAN'T GET THAT THROUGH YOUR SKULLS BY NOW YOU NEVER WILL

That's BS happy … You'd love it if we were called WA WA NEE

That doesn't make sense - if your a WT supporter it shouldn't matter who owns the licence. What if Wests don't buy the licence and its sold to another buyer with no ties to either club - will you still be a supporter. Or if Harry Triguboff buys half a share will you still be a supporter. What if Wests also sell their share and its owned 100% by an entrepreneur - will you still be a supporter. Sounds like your still a Balmain supporter to me.

I'm not on the board and I want a say too! Seeing how the new board is all touchy feely why don't they allow an elected members representative to have a say on matters of importance as well.

Diedpretty ,I think if the tigers logo or name is gone then he will throw in the towel, that's how I read it,I don't blame him that's what I will do as well…you can't follow our team unless it is Wests Tigers........

I don't get it! Surely we support WestsTigers - the club - not Balmain or Western Suburbs. At least I do and I would have hoped the majority of supporters do. Those who walk away because Balmain may fold are NOT supporters of WestsTigers - they are still Balmain supporters. True WestsTigers supporters will stay supporters (and yes, I once upon a time supported Balmain).

So does this now mean that we have to get agreement between THREE groups ( Wests, Balmain and the NRL ) to select a coach and football manager. . Hope it works, or it looks like we could be in for some interesting times.
As Gallagher said, this time for Balmain to pay is right in the middle of the Semis. Not only that, but 3months is allowed to sort it out, so let's hope it's not a bunfight, or it could affect any negotiations with any new players we are after. Great timing

CEO selects a coach and GM. Board endorse it and the process behind it.

The board will choose the coach, yet the chief executive, Grant Mayer, will decide who fills the newly created role of general manager

Not according to Roy…

If there is a max exodus of "wests tigers" fans because/when balmain loose the vote then I'm all for it. Clearly they don't support WT and are contributing to the continual BS that we are seeing.

Buh bye, I won't miss you…the club won't miss you...the only bloke that will miss you will be guy making those god awful replica blamain jerseys.

I am a Balmain fan. Whats wrong with that? Its convinient for guys like you and Happy to bag out foundation club fans but there are a lot of us. When both teams were forced to merge, the main reason most of us continued supporting the team was we still had an identity. If western suburbs had been eaten up by Balmain and they just used the logo or the name to tap into juniors or expand the fan base whilst losing their identity there would be half the fans the JV has now. Its ok for you guys to bag us out but you guys obviously dont know the history involved with foundation fans. As for being happy about losing us, im sure thats all good and well now, but when the board realises that the problems in this club are deeper than on the surface, it will only take another year like this and another coach and the fans you have left will be walking away in droves. There are a lot of emotional tigers and magpies fans who built the fanbase of this JV and didnt join from the inception of the new identity. So its fine to bag us and say we are not real fans, but when you have gone through what a lot of us have, its a deflating feeling watch the remnsnts of your team disintegrate. So go on your rants all you want but our opinions and emotions about our respective teams are valid. Its not an us vs them thing either because not once have I bagged western suburbs. We both needed each other at the inception but now its obvious there are either wests fans or wests tigers fans. Apparantly you arent allowed to be a foundation fan despite the NRL and the JV use this as a selling point for jerseys, games, and apparel. Flame on all you want but just because your a fan of the JV after the inception dont bag the fans who made it possible in the first place.

I'm pretty sure Gallagher and Happy were supporters pre-2000

Very sure GNR

I left Wests at the door once the WT's began

I still had the great memories and was happy to live with those

Hoping to create many more memories with the WT's

As I have said in the past . I know what its like to lose your club , it hurts but you need to build a bridge and get over it

And my club was highly successful in the past 4 premierships in 17 years

3 of the them were against the Brisbane Easts , who have another GF this weekend

Wonder if they will choke again ?? Watto ?? Thoughts ??

Good to see the new board ensuring Balmain are still involved in the decision making process. That can only be a good thing.

Show me where i said i was a better fan than anyone else? Who am i lecturing? Im simply replying to a post that "accused" me of being a balmain fan. But its ok for people like you to go on a little rant like you know what im talking about. If you could be bothered to actually read what was in the post you would see that i was pointing out that there are many different groups of fans and not just what keople like you dictate what we as WT fans are and are not allowed to support. We have every right to be ticked off and for a lot of us its the final straw. Some were reluctant to follow the JV when it started. I for one was never 100 percent into it because it didnt feel like my team anymore, but i still bought my season tickets and brought the kids along. So yeah ok im not as great a fan of the JV as you are, but hey according to you, people like us arent allowed to be fans anyway. Seems like you are the one who thinks your super fan.
