Balmain off Tigers board, but will help pick new coach

Ok ,FFS,we all are Wests Tigers, agreed, some people still have and always will have Western Suburbs or Balmain links as supporters of the said sides..Now because of the marriage of both foundation clubs we are the Wests Tigers..let's get over it and UNITE as one..in my opinion the NRL would be crazy ,silly bonco to loose the Wests Tigers trade mark ,they would lose people by the droves.

We are all in this together and united we stand…let's not fall. Please can we stop the we have you had shit and be all one...

I don't usually read the Balmain v Wests posts , i find them tedious. i wasn't thinking clearly when i clicked on this post. Working a 12 hour shift will do that Lol. I just like to say to a select few on here, that no matter which team you followed in the past (Balmain or Wests) WestsTigers supports you. So why don't you throw your support 100 percent behind WestsTigers too: Stop your bickering and get behind the club as it is now. It's the only way for the club to succeed. As for you threatening to walk away and stop supporting the team, well it's your loss. For every one that walks away, there will be someone else to take your place.

Well said Tigermama, some of us are thick at times,I tried to tell them in an earlier post UNITED we stand ,that's what it's all about.Im starting to wilt with the weight of both sides against each other, that is gone ,finished no more please people Wests Tigers forever now and beyond…......

As long as the team is the Wests Tigers and is represented by the juniors of both the original clubs - how it is funded is of little consequence to me as a fan or supporter. I ran into an old Bears supporter last week who still has never got over what happened to their team with the debacle of what was the Northern Eagles and hence follows no team but supports who ever plays against Manly. Now if something similar was to happen to our club ( my understanding is that it cant) well there is a chance that I too could end up a bit bitter and twisted.

Good to see the new board ensuring Balmain are still involved in the decision making process. That can only be a good thing.

Unless they are endorsing Parish, then I reckon they shouldn't get a say, otherwise no worries.

Bitter? twisted? Hope not Telltails. We like you the way you are

The western suburbs side and the NRL are trying to be as diplomatic as possible in the hope they dont lose the Balmain fan base when everything goes pear shaped. Its been widely documented that Balmain has no chance of paying off the debt before next September. The NRL knows the JV will fall apart within 12 months if they are relying on the western suburbs fans and a few of the remaining Balmain fans turning up to games. There are already a large bunch of fans who are turning away in light of the news that the Balmain side is going to be dissolved. As we get closer to the deadline there will be a lot more i dare say. Either way the NRL wins. If the wests tigers can manage to attract a fan base then all good and well, but if not then its the perfect excuse to move the team out of an area that has demolished league with soccer and AFL. After all the rubbish that fans have put up with this year you can understand a lot of people losing patience. Ive been a season ticket holder for 25 years as a WT and Balmain supporter. I take my family to most games every winter, but im a wests tigers fan, not a western suburbs fan. If the Balmain identity is removed i will not be supporting yet another hybrid of my team. The NRL can stick it where the sun dont shine.

WT ain't going anywhere… BT losing ownership and their say in WT will have little impact to Tigers identity within WT. Most people wont even notice a change except for WT moving on from LO one day.

If Balmain Tigers were stand alone in NRL today, would they be any dramatically or noticeably different to current day WT? Except for the little Magpie on the sleeve and 4 games at Campbelltown WT & BT are often seen as one in the same....

WT is here to stay regardless of ownership.

The board will choose the coach, yet the chief executive, Grant Mayer, will decide who fills the newly created role of general manager

Not according to Roy…

Listen to 2KY Big Sports Breakfast interview with Marina Go… Listen to her response to the question.

I don't understand how Balmange have any rights at all at the moment. THey have no $$$ but want to be involved in the decisions.

Bowelmain chose to let the NRL in, rather than letting Wests have an extra seat on the board and cover their debt. It is all Balmains own doing. They deserve what they get.

THis Marina is a closet Balmain supporter. The sooner Wests own the whole JV the better.

As long as the team is called Wests Tigers, then it seems like a petty excuse for someone to stop supporting. If the club reverted to the Western Suburbs name, hell yeah, i could understand why you'd tell them to shove it, but they aren't going to do that. Who cares who owns the joint as long as Wests Tigers remain. Its also funny, cos i'm betting the majority who walk away would be those who for yrs who have labeled old Magpies supporters as dinosaurs for never having moved on, yet if you turned your back on the club over this, you'd be no better imo.

Agree. It is up there with idiots who abandon the club because of colour distribution, games played in Campbelltown etc.

Wests Tigers is it. They need to do what is best for Wests Tigers and I hope that is they key aim of this new era board

Genoshan, get your head together you are ranting,Balmain are part of the JV and the more negativity you throw up the more the old ,we against them crap comes back to haunt us,get over it and think more positive. We all must look to the future no matter what happens as long as we are WESTS TIGERS and remain in the NRL then we should all be pleased,as for Marina Go if she does have a fondness for Balmain so be it you surely have a huge fondness of Wests and irrespective of what you think the TIGERS brand is what the NRL is interested in and it comes from the Balmain side of the JV…

I'm agreeing with Hawaiian tiger here , and when we walk away I think you'll need more then just one to take our place, there are still many passionate balmain fans hanging on to the last thread of their team , when the inevitable happens there will be a substantial amount of supporters walk away from the club.

The way I understand the NRL loan thing is that the former Balmain side of the JV we're broke, so the NRL chipped in with their money required by the JV and in return ,temporarily took away their voting rights on the board.
They are still allowed to exist within the JV as their financial obligations have been met by the NRL for the moment and if they meet the terms of said loan ,will get their votes back,so why can't they contribute to a recommendation for head coach that will be put to the board.
Did you read that Genoshan ,they are still a part of the JV, it appears that you are not!

Till the day the NRL call for their debt to be settled and Balmain fail to be able to settle their debt, than their a partner in the JV. Okay they might not have voting rights but on paper they are still a partner, so the board would be mad not to involve them in all decision making.

Anyway as many others have said, lets focus on the Weststigers and stop turning every thread into a Magpie vrs Tigers brawl, its been done to death and we will never get anywhere as a club till everyone embraces the Weststigers as our main focus

To be quite honest I wouldn't mind being known as the "Western Suburbs Tigers." It sounds better, and gives us an area to identify with rather than being a "generic Sydney" team.

Agree with both of you though. Anyone who wants to walk away over ownership was never truly on board.

The sooner we get rid of the Western Suburbs Fans and Balmain Fans the sooner we can rebuild the Wests Tigers fanbase.

This talk of x number of balmain fans walking away or x amount of magpies walking away is fine with me. They were never fans of the Wests Tigers anyway and are only holding the club back.

What's required is for the new board to get the Wests Tigers back on track as a business. A winning team will be the result and then watch the fans flock back, plus new fans as well. I followed Wests for forty years but now I'm a fanatical Wests Tigers man and I would still be even if Wests Magpies went broke following some disastrous "business" decisions - just as Balmain have done.

I see no reason for anyone who is a Wests Tigers fan to walk away.

I agree with ya .. Why would you walk ? Once the white collared workers sort the office out and the team start winning and playing consistent footy again it'll be onwards and upwards !
