Prelim final from 88, looking forward to watching it!

childhood memories flowing back, remember going to the game as a 9 yo!

Watched it late last night on fox. That game brings back plenty of wonderful memories.
Look out for scotty gale coming off the bench and making a big impact.
The run we went on the back part of 88 was unbelievable.
Hanley was dynamic that year, I was super confident heading into the gf but things fell apart once lamb coathangered ellery.
The footy has changed so much from back then even the stadiums, just look at the condition of the sfs playing surface! More dirt than grass. Ah the memories!

One thing that always sticks out to me when they show the classic games is the speed of the play the ball. It's so quick, and you know why? The players weren't actually trained to slow it down. There was no mindset amongst the coaches of it being a possible strategy.

It's also weird listening to the commentary and hearing Mossop and Hughes and co. hardly ever mentioning how much time is left in the game. You'd have thought in such a close game that they would have been keeping the audience updated on it, especially since they never displayed it on the screen back then.

Watching that gave me such good memories of sitting there at the game it is hard to believe that it was 23 years ago.The one skill i would like to see back in the game is the marker being allowed to strike at the ball when it was on the ground it added another dimension to the game

I find the opposite with the play the balls. Because the fitness levels were so much lower and with no interchange, players would take forever just to get up and play the ball.

I have uploaded part 1 to youtube. http://youtu.be/mIY2KSE4Pd0

brilliant stuff!

**a Kevin Hardwick sighting to boot!**

Ah, Kevin Hardwick. He was in my class at high schoool. Funny thing is, he always had short hair at school.

To those who were looking for a copy of the Balmain team song in another thread if you go into the you tube above it was on that same page on the right hand side

One of my favourite players Kevin Hardwick. The kind of club man you no longer get in the NRL although Junior Pearce seemed to be injured often enough for him to be almost a regular.
According to wikipedia he was also a New York state politician!
