Thanks Willow for that update…...another Wests Tigers nailbiting ending by the sound of things.
The # 17 jersey is still up in the air, hey?

It's not that up in the air anymore…

Presuming Fitzy starts tomorrow, and we are being told Fifita and Daniela will play.Who will be the other player from Rd 1 to miss out Willow.

Just for the record,we have some very classy halves in the lowers.Walters was as sharp as,and has some size about him too.

Lazo and tomatoe are both good,if I had to choose,Id say Lazo by quite a margin.

He is looking the goods IMO.

Fitzy still on the bench is my understanding. Not sure who will miss out, but my money is on Flanagan.

Not good for West Magpies supporters:Well done BRE,to come from behind and get home.Look to next week. Thanks willow for the update.Newtown had a big win over Norths…..and Wests play Newtown next week at Henson

I caught the game today. Pretty tough conditions today on a sunbaked Leichhardt Oval. Made for a pretty unattractive game really. My observations…

1\. Mitch Brown missed a good chunk of the first half, not sure what happened but he went up the tunnel and returned at around the 50min mark. Didn't do a lot but did well to set up the all important clincher to Lee Bennett.

2\. Arana Taumata looks really underdone. I know it was hot out there but he was buggered by about the 55th minute. At one point looked like he may've injured his ankle-lower leg but seemed to run it off in the end. Thought he played okay though. Did well to score our first try. He'll get better with every game

3\. Blake Lazerus was impressive again. Scored twice on the back of nothing really. Like Arana , he's missed a lot of football and he'll get better with time.

Both our 6-7 are a fair way off the top grade. No doubts Lui is our best option there for the next couple of months.

Other observations....Willie Mataka played pretty well, was hard to pull down most of the afternoon. David Gower was as expected. Of the Maggies, Rhys Pritchard didn't get a lot of opportunities but he did well on a kick chase which almost led to a try. Waters was solid at 7 and Chris Corby did alright at hooker.

It was a tough game out there, physical at times in difficult conditions. Balmain's tries really came out of nothing but simple defensive lapses which Taumata, Lazerus x2 and Brown(who set up Bennett) took advantage of.

What a joke,,,,

Well done …...Balmain Great victory.... :wahoo:

Took a Wests junior to do it.....Lazarus wins it for BRET again...

MoM...the guy in pink....was that leathal Lee Bennett shaking his hand at the end.....

Best for Wests.... Georgie Keppa, Stolk, Rysko, Everingham. Pritchard and was real impressed with young Shaun Spence came on 10 to go in the first half and played the whole second half....

Bad news for Josh Davis who came off in the first half with a knee injury...iced didn't come back on....Hopefully only minor....

For Balmain, the ref, Lazarus, Taumata, Gower, Farlow and oh stuff it!!!!

Schirnack Jnr is one angry man....didn't get much game time but he must have got some angry pills of big bro...aggression plus.....

Weird, dour really old school kind of game. Some would of been taken back to the days of Dallas and Blocker.

I don't really have a summary but some random thoughts on the game.

- the loss of Fifita and even Daniella limited Wests attack. The injury to Davis then added to this.

- Balmain seem to play better with 12 men. Big Al got sin binned.

- Taumata has awesome leg drive and can bust a tackle! fitness a worry though.

- lollylegs is underrated!

- forward battle was pretty even. More creativity in the Balmain pack.

- George Keppa could be the next bigger version of Preston Campbell

and lastly to the man of the moment. as a big fan of his it's great to see young Lazarus on the field. A class above every player on the field and the difference between the teams. Great acceleration and a good footy brain. Another 3-4 weeks to improve fitness and then he will be knocking on Commander Sheens door.

1 - 0 to Balmain in the Skandalis-O'Neill Cup.

Flanagan

It was a very odd game.

Wests actually won a penalty count which is an oddity.

Big Al got sin binned for a basically nonsense call.

Not much to take away from todays game. Balmain played like absolute disinterested garbage for a good 50 minutes and Wests lacked the power in the halves to capitalise (Not through lack of effort on Waters part)

All Balmain can take away from today is 2 points and alot of work to get on with

What a joke of a ref!! I have no doubts whatsoever he was paid by the Magpies..

Mataka had one of his strong runs today and showed excellent leg drive when hitting the line.
Mitch Brown(concussion) got more involved today also and put his captain away with a very good in and away.
AJ once again showed his blistering speed off the mark slicing the Magpies' defensive line.
Lazarus got Players' Player Award once again with Farlow getting MOTM.
Big Al may serve some time after today's game with carryover points from the semi's last year. Not too sure about this one though.

Tigers won this convincingly considering the Macarthur ref blew the pea out of the whistle in an attempt to get Wests home..

Magpies best player - the referee

A Fifita - WOOHOO!!
Daniela - I don't remember seeing him play so have no idea.

So Brown is playing?

Hope Pritchard scores a hattrick. Sheens might start taking notice of him.

Pritchard got OWNED today…
Sheens will have noticed his fumbling hands and getting put to shame by a player twice his age..

Playing surface is in immaculate condition….
The stands have been renovated.....
And real men don't use soap at the footy..
The player match ups are a joke and not even in contention except Daniella is 800,000 times faster than Brown.
1\. You've got the wrong Fifita brother
2\. Lazarus is a rising star, Waters is washed up
3\. Falcone should be playing hooker, but Leo has no clue
4\. Farlow will double the tackle count of Rysko
5.Poaneki will never win a State Cup MVP Award playing out of position
6\. Huihahau has NRL experience over Rhys

Make sure you watch Fox on Wednesday if you missed anything yesterday..

**Bwahahahaha….thank you so much for your assesment of the match ups...\
\
Sooooo accurate......just the way Wests like....**

Totally outclased on paper...........

Corby v Carr.....

EDIT....thanks Innk...you sum it up so much better,,,,,

No problems. Anytime…

 You really have no idea…..

Who was that he leaped over to set up the try for Aiga....

Which ref where you watching.....Lazo's try from the quick tap ...the ref was heard to say clearly....go Lazo....Wests let him go....

Now you are just being pathetic and blaming the ref who tried to piggy back your boys for 80mins but couldn't ride them home. I would even dare say the penalty count would've been close to 15 - 2 before half time in favour of Wests.
Oh BTW…i didn't realise you were allowed to hold onto a player and not let him play the ball after the penalty has been given. Grubs..

I think you got too much sun…..

Who's blaming the ref....just pointing out how it was....

It's lucky Balmain poached Lazarus.....then again they get to pick the talent they want....

Now now Geo …....next time you see Blake , please ask him yourself , if he got "pinched". , or if he actually sees himself as A Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tiger,

by the sounds of it, it doesn't seem The it was much of a game

Yeah…..he's BRET through and through....just jealous he's not in a Magpie jumper.....

Whist there was a lot of dropped ball...it was very physical....

Both sides belted the tripe out of one another.....
