Balmain saved from brink of extinction with new leagues club to come

Didnt say fans alone would make the club successful just that they are around in numbers to support the club, just like the multitude of familes; pokie lovers, and others that like to take advantage of what a leagues club offers.
The population is not limited to anyone particular demographic so if the club offers a variety of facilities then it has much chance as any club to be successful.

The deal will go ahead anyway. The club at the markets already earns a tidy profit and WA will reduce some overheads and spruce it up a bit to improve it further. Rozelle can still proceed albeit it’s delayed by another couple of years.

Out of interest is the club at Five Dock still operating ?

The administrators closed it when they took over as it was losing money. The one at the market stayed open as it was making money.

"Financial reports show Five Dock Tigers - along with the Tigers club in Flemington (which remains open) - turned over $6.1 million in 2017, including $1.1 million in bar sales and $4.7 million in poker machine revenue."

No surprise where the bulk of revenue comes from in clubs.

People talk about a new leagues club at Rozelle like its about fitting with tje area. Firstly they will make thier money from pokies and gambling addicts as do any leagues club. Every suburb abd area has gambling addicts and in this case having a casino nearby is great for profits as it creates more addicts in the area. Wests Ashfield have done an amazing job updating the Tigers Leagues club in Ashfield with "The Garden" restaurant , new sports bar and funtion area all being popular but the pokies pay the bills.

Looks like this is getting very close to reality, with Wests Ashfield taking over the operation of Balmain Leagues club and funding the juniors. Balmain will retain a 10% share of Wests Tigers, 2 votes on the nine person board and have their debts paid out by Wests. This is subject to the members of each club voting for the amalgamation.

Just posted the same thing under a new heading - maybe mods can amalgamate posts.

The NSW government today approved the development of the Balmain Leagues Club site in Rozelle! This is the 12 storey application put together a year or two ago, which included a supermarket and 180 odd apartments and a leagues club.

While the start of the construction will still be dependent on whether the government chooses to proceed with the second harbour tunnel and use the area as a drop site, if so the development is still a decade away. Let's hope this stupid and highly unnecessary and expensive tunnel doesn't go ahead and this part of Rozelle can finally get some rejuvenation!

This is a great step towards Balmain Tigers being a financial part part of Wests Tigers again in the future.

Mods - the search function doesn't seem to be working accurately as i couldn't find a single post on the leagues club although i know there's been much discussion on it in the past.

Can’t come soon enough. Currently the site is a hovel. The sooner work commences the better.

Great news, hate driving past that derelict hole that's there at the moment. Absolute disgrace it has taken this long.

This doesn't bring Balmain back as a financial part of the Wests Tigers because I believe if a club is built it will be owned and operated by Wests Ashfield and branded as a Wests Tigers club.

Amazing how WA buy BLC out, and within a year the site gets approved. Wonder if WA had a hand in the lobbying...

Wonder if the leagues club will be branded as Balmain Leagues or a Wests Tigers leagues?

EDIT: @cochise edited his post before my reply.

Not too long really.
About the length of time between punches for Luke!

Exactly.
We just have to be patience.
10years? nothing really.
Just like us qualifying for the finals.

Not fussed either way. We are Wests Tigers so it would make sense to brand the club that way.

I would love a Wests Tiger branded club, I'd probably go there for all out of Sydney games.
