I've posted it before ages ago but school mate of mine when he was at uni doing his business marketing degree it came up about sports in Australia and most marketable teams/logos. The tiger (rugby league variant) is in the top 3-4 can't remember exactly, most marketable sporting brands in this country. This killed him being a diehard dragons man!
The NRL aren't stupid no matter who's running the game, to think they will give away a marketing position like that to rehash an old team is a fantasy at best.
As for the original topic at hand, i don't want to see balmain die but it seems as though they're just shuffling deck chairs on the titanic.

Not even in the top 20 according to these guys.
Putting a value on a sports emblem is like herding cats.
Some people support a team simply because they live in that teams area.
Some because they like the colours
Some because they have a favourite player from that team
Some because they grew up in a family that supported that team.
And yes, some even because they like the emblem.
There's many reasons.
But putting a monetary value on an emblem , is almost impossible to do with any accuracy.
When you look at the numbers of supporters over the last two ot three years, the most valuable emblem would most likely be Souths. Haven't they got more members than anyone else in the game? The Broncos would have to be up there as well, (being in a one team town the size of Brisbane) and there emblem is a Horse( hardly inspiring)
Where is this torrent of money that our emblem pulls in for us?.
Supporters and sponsorare are what brings in most of the money, and they vary with the amount of success that a club has.
When we won the Compwe sold a heap of merchandise, when Souths won the comp they would have sold a hell of a lot more.
Why ? because both teams were highly sucessfull.
Does anyone really believe that if we had a different emblem, or Souths had a different emblem, it would have made a difference.
Same with the Afl
Collingwood has a magpie and a massive supporter base. How does tha fit in with the emblem theories?
I'm not sure if there is a Tiger emblem in the AFL( because of an almost complete lack of knowledge of the game) but , if there is , are they getting much monetary gain from their emblem?
I repeat, I DONT want to change ours, but am still waiting for the financial benefit that we are supposed to be getting for it
