Lol it's a public forum. If you want a private conversation use the PM function Abe.

Yes, and to go around searching out posts just so you can publicly exclaim your faux outage is a little bit teenage-girlish.

I don't want to de-rail a good thread, so if you want to continue this stimulating exchange of ideas you can PM me, Brittany.

Ummm March 31 is fast approaching..what were we talking about again…

Back on TOPIC please

Struggling NRL clubs have been warned: profit or perish.

ARL Commission (ARLC) chairman John Grant has told clubs if they are not running at a profit by 2018 when more increased funding arrives, they risk having their licences revoked and being thrown out of the competition.

"The message has got through to them," Grant told News Corp Australia. "And it had to.
\
\
"This isn't about us versus them. But if we now provide a level of funding, then the clubs are to be sustainable … that's the deal."

Thirteen of the 16 NRL clubs reportedly ran at a loss in 2015, with South Sydney, Brisbane and the Warriors the only clubs to turn a profit.

Private owners and leagues club backing are available to assist the eventual bottom line of most franchises, but it is those who have had to approach the game for help that are in Grant's firing line.

The ARLC has already been forced to bail out the likes of Gold Coast, Newcastle, St George Illawarra and the Balmain side of the Wests Tigers merger in recent years.

When combined with the increased administration costs related to securing a new television rights deal, the organisation ran at a loss of $18.7 million in 2015, down almost $40 million on the previous season.

A salary cap placed on football-related spending has been touted as a possible solution for the ailing clubs, however Grant has indicated expenditure is something that should rest entirely with the clubs.

"Clubs already realise this `Arms Race', it needs to stop," Grant said.

"I'm not going to use the word cap when it comes to addressing what clubs spend because I don't think that's the solution."

Geez this Grant loves the sound of his own voice.

He took ages to hire the first CEO so he could keep the limelight, now he's taking his sweet time again so he can get on camera.

Lets not forget he rubbished Gallop on his exit about being reactionary, rather than proactive. Gallop went onto to take the A-League to new heights.

Just do the deals on the quiet Grant - Publicly rubbishing the clubs that pay his wage about excess is not a smart move when they were already looking to oust you and you are massively overpaying your own management team.

I won't cut and run if Balmain is no longer part of WT, but would be very disappointed. Sadly, I will always associate a great former hooker with greed in the demise, though of course others seem complicit.

It is fast approaching time for Harry to put up or shut up, at least as far as his purported love or passion for the once great club goes.

Not a real nice way to talk about a guy who has already invested (and continues to) millions of dollars of his own money into the club - especially when we have people threatening to not even spend $100 on a membership when things don't go their way!

Yeah,as i and others have posted many times some very poor decisions made at a vital time in the Clubs history,a certain plumber drove it but i think he thought he was doing the right thing despite the warnings. It was a stupid move at that time after Balmain officially had the criteria to stay in the Comp. and looking back with hindsight it just mind boggling people can be so stupid.
Anyway we have to deal with the here & now and the current Board aren't laying down without a fight,i just hope we can get Harry involved to save the Club,i don't see anyone else connected with the Club with the resources to help.

Fair enough Hammer, you may draw parralels to have a go at others for not putting their money where their mouth is, though only if they have the means, and I am one of the many that renewed.

That hundred dollars also converts to about a million in personal wealth for an individual when compared to Harry and most of our fellow supporters do not have anywhere that much.

I also appreciate that he has helped out the club and don't totally discount it, particularly any handouts or TPA's, but sponsorship is a two way street.

Really there are only two options.

1\. A high wealth individual or syndicate buys the club.

No use Balmain just scraping the $$ together and then not being able to contribute to the JV going forward. You have a cashed up Ashfield on one side, and it would be great if they were partnered by a cashed up group on the other side. That would be huge.

2\. Ashfield buys out Balmain's Share.

I'd actually prefer that Ashfield buy Balmain out altogether. That way they can still keep the Balmain Junior League going, a 108 year old club will still be alive, and at minimal cost and disruption to the JV. All decision making and funding will be in Ashfield's hands, and for once a unified ownership structure and identity can emerge. Hey, we might even get a Wests Tigers Leagues club one day.

Either way, we will find out in the next 6 weeks or so what's going down.
