Balmain set to retain stake in Wests Tigers as deadline extended

Nothing wrong with just using our first name imo…. Or our last.

Go Wests
Go Tiges

I agree. I don't understand his comparison in people calling us Balmain to others calling us Wests.
Wests is one of our names.

At the end of the day, what you call the club is your own personal preference. I call us Wests at times, other times the Tigers, other times Wests Tigers.

What other fans call us I could care less. I never call the Stains "St. George Illawarra…"

Half the teams I call by their mascot.

Wests is one of our names.

One of my workmates calls us the Furry Magpies, cos he heard an old bloke yell it out at Campbelltown not long after the merger.

Gives me mental images like this. (Stolen from DeviantArt)

It's a Tiger with wings, and it's so much better than a Rooster or a Bulldog.

Hahaha nope not at all ink I use either as well… I've even called them other names when they are playing like crap too

The only point I was trying to make is that I couldn't care less what people call us or if Wests Ashield run our board or if Balmain live or die… I'm a Wests Tigers fan and I support whatever decision is made to make our club better

Its actually a negative business promotion not using the heritage of both Balmain and Wests more.
In the 90s watching Souths games draw 4000 you wouldn't think tey would have 26000 season ticket holders today. These people are not kids but were around as closet bunnies fans back then and are back into it. Many Wests fans are not active fans today because just when they are about to get a bit motivated some media man talks about Sironen and Eliias and may even call them Balmain and even refer to Tedesco as a Balmain junior.
Its a turn off.
Everyone needs to feel a part of it and can.
You former Balmain people would eventually get pissed off if the club was referred to as Wests and the black and whites.
That too would be a negative promotion.
.

WT is often referred to as Wests. I manage to avoid curling into a foetal position and bursting into tears. It is the name of the team.

I'm an old Wests fan, and I think that's completely ridiculous.
Being consistently rubbish on the field - THAT is a turn off.

Ha - no truer words were spoken Ricksen.

The ongoing bias towards the Magpies side of the joint venture has continued to plague this club

- Campbelltown gets a trial every year but never at Lecihardt meaning the Wests side get more games every year
- The team trains and the club is now based at a former home ground of the Magpies
- The club has the magpie on the sleeve but the Balmain logo has never been seen
- The board is currently made up of Magpies with no Balmain representatives
- All the club and commentators talk about is how important the south west is to our future never of how important the inner west

You call this a joint venture for 15 years we Balmain people may well have been the Steelers although at least they got in the title and not just a cuddly animal mascot

Hey MM, can't you remember the Maggies getting about 500 a game was it in the seventies? Even Tommy and Boyd deserted ship. No wonder there are not many fans left standing, they like the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost caught the last train for the coast the day the music died. (actually the swimming pool was right next door to Lidcombe Oval so didn't go far).

You're in the wrong forum.. Move on for gods sake

No mate,

Its what the WT are made of.
You think we would set it up and pay for it so we could move on for others.

Keep on dreaming.

Its our club. It is what we make it.

I 've been following since 75 and our smallest crowd was 1500 in 84 after we were kicked out had no one in pouring rain against Easts the second last team we lost 8-6 had 4 tries disallowed by one game wonder former Easts player referee Mckean.
Average crowds 78-80 were 10000.

Tommy and Boyd deserted ship after we were minor premiers and were equal leaders in 79.
Don't know were you got your information from and I don't knpw your point. You don't think promoting our heritage more would lead to more interest?

As I understand it, Tommy went to Newton because Singleton offered to pay out his gambling debts, so I don't see that as a desertion, just pragmatism. Yes, I suppose he did leave for the money but he had to, whilst Boyd, Brown, Dorahy etc just left for more of the folding stuff.

I was at that game refereed by McKean and I've never seen such a disgraceful performance by a referee in my life. He seemed to sink without a trace shortly after.

Unless my memory is very faulty, Wests Magpies never had Concord Oval as their home ground. Their juniors have used it from time to time as a home venue.

The board is made up of Magpies and independent directors, not just Magpies directors.

The south west has the potential to be the best and biggest nursery for juniors of any district, so of course the club will talk it up and try to secure it for the Wests Tigers. The inner west currently provides some great juniors but we just cannot ignore the SW or it will be lost to other teams or other codes.

You are quite right about the logos and I wouldn't mind seeing the old Tigers emblem on our jumpers. I'd also like to see the club go back to the original gold colour of Balmain instead of the garish orange we currently have. BTW I'm an old Magpie, now proud to be a Wests Tiger.

BBF: you are right there is that RSL Youth Club in between (they that have junior chess at). Haven't been there for years.
