Balmain SG Ball Grand Final Team

Awesome result, congratulations boys, well done, if only our senior squad could replicate this. :righton: :righton:

Great effort from the Mighty Tigers against a much bigger opposition. All of the boys played well, I would estimate completions to be around the 80% mark and the defence was just awesome.
I thought the best players for Balmain were Daniel Ravkin this kid broke his finger in the first few minutes and was down for the count a few times but just kept coming back and scored 2 very good tries. Mason Farrell at fullback saved about 4 tries and for the first time took on the goal kicking duties and landed 7 from 8, I thought a big turning point early in the game was when Canberra charged down a kick when they were up 6-0, I don't know how he managed to win the race for the ball but he did and we scored off that set to get back into the game. had Canberra regained posession I believe we would have struggled to keep them out as they were on a roll. I also thought Fosio Tatola and Matthew Woods were great off the bench, they really picked up our line speed in defence when we started to look vunerable, Fosio coming up with some relly good hits on some of their bigger forwards. Reece Armstrong has been one of the best players in the last feww weeks and looked dangerous every time he touched the ball. Mitchell Moses and Mark Daoud controlled the game well and came up with some really smart kicks to keep Canberra on the backfoot. From memory we scored 4 tries from some clever passing from these 2 guys as well.

Flash can you confirm something for me? Ive heard this is the 1st year that Paul Sironen is heavily involved in the juniors. What sort of influence, if any, has he had on the players, structure etc? And when was the last time we won a junior gf?

Well done boys.

Sirro is Gen Manager I thinks the title - of Balmain Tigers RL club Balmain JRLFC

With either side of the JV holding the SG Ball minor premiership it bodes well for our NYC squad over the next few seasons

Well done boys.

I honestly believe the appointments that the club made this year as far as the coaching staff is concerned has elevated the club from mid range results to the top. Both the Harold Matthews and SG Ball had hopes of making the semi finals but to finish the round games in 3rd and 1st place respectively and then 2 have 2 teams (we are the only club that did) vying for a Grand Final spot, proves that the club is definately getting things right. I can see the club getting stronger and stronger on the back of some really promising results.

I know that a few of the SG Ball players trialled elsewhere and the club would have lost these guys had it not been for Andrew Webster the appointed SG Ball coach telephoning these boys and talking about his plans and expectations for the season. He had only arrived back from England for the teams first open trial, he knew no one and had a job on his hands to try and mould this team together after quite a few of the boys were treated pretty poorly in the trials the season prior and were looking at options at other clubs. He told the boys that he would improve them as Rugby League Players and that they would have much better chance of progressing through to higher levels if they stayed at Balmain under his coaching. The boys all decided to stay after being more than impressed with what Andrew had to say and I am sure now so glad that they did.

Todd Mckeown also did a great job with the Harold Matthews team who had a terrific season, I think if they had 3 or 4 more bigger boys they would have gone very close to winning the competition, they were out muscled but definately not out played. To beat Penrith in that Semi Final was unbelievable considering the size difference and I think if they keep the nucleus of the squad together can very close to bringing home another SG ball title in 2014.

Congrats to these tiger cubs. Looking forward to them having many years of success with our proud club!

They play this Saturday, 1:15pm against Townsville at Langland's Park. We will have a few out but still will have a competitive side, I just hope the judiciary are feeling kind.

Prick of a hill too… Johnny Lang used to get much joy in making us do 15-20 sets up that hill after a loss!
