Barry O'Farrell our next CEO?

If you put political preferences aside and take a look at BO,he is a very astute business man and knows that a particular business as the NRL needs solid cash flow to keep existing….remember most that have fallen by the wayside, their main excuse was no cash....
Barry it seems to me at least should get a go,if he doesn't perform to expectation, then show him the same door as MAYER was shown..In my opinion, what let MAYER down was that he had his nose into everything and didn't concentrate wholly on his job as CEO,once he had the job he should of known how difficult it was going to be and he should of sorted out and prioritised the most important to the least important jobs of the incoming CEOs position...

I also think he didn't like to be told how to do things..however the new board have a vision and MAYER isn't in that vision.....

Given the extent of corruption in NSW politics over the past decade, accepting a bottle of grange from a lobbyist is very much at the minor end.

Of course it is Larry, glad to see someone provide a little clarity.

Everyone complains about not being able to sign big name players but no one wants a go getter from the big end of town who may be able to use his contacts and profile to make this happen.

Precious bunch.

He certainly helped the Balmain Leagues Club Development.

Absolute NO from me. If he is the best, God help us.

Come on Russ,it wasn't Barry it was Benny, and look what mess he has left the Tigers in…

Russ you and I have many favourable discussions, take the blinkers off and see BO as a business man not a politition...he also has plenty of friends,I dare say Uncle Harry is one of them..could be a chance to redeem himself, out of the political arena...

The only problem is this is the only thing he was caught for

Chances are that if he's done it once he's done it before in a far worse situation

I'm not overly concerned about this though , all politicians are dirty

As long as he can get the deals done and not embroil us in some dodgy scam and he is the best person lets go for it

He's a liar. We don't need liars running the show.

WD,Barry was in politics, part of the job is that you must lie to the voters, then try and survive the onslaught..would you prefer,Obied,Maitland,MacDonald and co,they ripped millions off NSW people and get away Scott free…the other major thing is,who and what is available to be our CEO and take us further forward as a great club..

Let's be clear, Barry was not found to be corrupt in any way shape or form.

He did what was probably the most honourable that a pollie has done one recent memory, and resign the moment he realised he had misled the inquiry.

It was a shock to the most senior political reporters that he stood down for what amounted to nothing,

As for the question of CEO, if he is the most qualified applicant, then give him the job. If not, then he can find a job somewhere else.

But before everyone gets their panties in a knot, lets see if he actually applies for the job or not. So far we havn't heard a peep out of the man himself.

And would make you wonder why he quit for such a minor thing

Probably because some searching would of found far worse

Certainly makes for some interesting discussion. I'm not opposed to O'Farrell coming on board, provided he is the strongest candidate.

If a disgraced corrupt former premier is the most credible candidate, who else does the board have in mind?

Would LOVE big Barry O as our next CEO!
He obviously is a mad Tigers supporter. He has shown that numerous times. One that sticks in my head is when he organized Tiger Woods to be an honorary a Tigers member.
Great operator and one that the players would respect and like.
Would do wonders for our Sponsorship and I think for our image to have such a high profile CEO.
Lets hope he throws his hat in the ring!

Hopefully Anthony Field (the blue Wiggle is that his name)puts his hand up. He could be to the Tigers what Kochie is to Port Adelaide.

My understanding of why he quit was that he didn't want his issue getting in the way of the much broader corruption inquiry engulfing the NSW ALP at the time. He needed to be squeaky clean given the conduct of the former government.

He is an outstanding candidate as many have pointed out above. He doesn't need to understand footy. I think we need to get away from the ways football clubs have been traditionally run.

They did all the searching, nothing else was revealed.

This is ICAC we are taking about, they don't back off just because someone resigns.

Barry set high standards for himself, and he put his hand up when he didn't meet those standards. Not many others would have the balls to do what he did.

Fact is he is not 'dirty' or corrupt as some on here have mentioned. ICAC themselves confirmed that.

Very unlikely. He was no Joh Bjelke Petersen and is what Wests Tigers need, better than Mr. Meriton with his business contacts.

"The Tigers have engaged professional search firm Crown & Marks to help find their next chief executive but O'Farrell has already emerged as a possible candidate.

O'Farrell's business contacts would be beneficial for a club whose financial position has raised speculation about its future in Sydney.

The former NSW premier is a fanatical Wests Tigers supporter and has a close relationship with many at the club and within the code."

He would be excellent.

Anyone who doesn't think a master of business and politics with a huge network of contacts won't be more beneficial than some other guy with friends who run small electronics/manufacturing companies you've got rocks in your head.

If we need to liaise with the NRL, with councils, with big business $, or even small business I find it hard to imagine there'd be a better candidate than Barry. If there is, then awesome, if not Barry should get the gig (if he actually wants it).

Not only was he the premier he's a tigers fan. How many people who've held major business positions in this country are also tigers fans? Harry? Anyone else? We also don't have a huge slary on offer so that would reduce the options even further.

I've met him at parliament house a few times too and he's a very affable guy too. What more could we want?

People talk about his business contacts, I would imagine a lot of these contacts would have jumped ship the minute his political clout came to a end. Not saying that in a critical way at all, its just the nature of business. Still I would imagine being a x premier of the state would open a few doors that would have been hard to open. I think it is hypothetical anyway as I doubt he would be interested. Remember a few years ago John Brogden was linked to the CEO's job he was also a strong Tigers supporter

Indifferent to this. Obviously having a lengthy history in politics he would be well equipped to deal with the day in, day out BS that engulfs club administrations and the unique politics of our board.
