Barry O'Farrell our next CEO?

Look, it isn't the bottle of Grange that was the problem. It was the fact that he lied to ICAC under oath and only put his hand up when the thank you note, written by him, turned up. He resigned because he had no other option. As for his business contacts, many of those were found to be making illegal payments to his party.

I hope that the world wide search turns up somebody capable AND untainted because going with O'Barrel will taint this club; we could do without that.

Their is a lot of pub talk at present that the 12 non aligned NRL teams ( the ones who have no NRL debt) want to get rid of the present commission and Smith and start up a new one with Gus running the show. Where their is smoke their is fire, or at least sometimes.

Anyway if that is true, Gus is out of the picture!!!!!

All about the $. Clubs are not happy with their share of the cake so the knives are out. The last thing this game needs is another war.

To my mind, despite a massive executive Smith and the Commission have done little to improve the game. They have not solved any of the games issues (salary cap, marquee players, referring standards, unfair draw, player draft, player behaviour) and seem to be chasing their tail with no strategic intent. Sure they are trying to change the club business operating model, but given the size of the executive they seem to be making little progress on making the game a better product.

The clubs will block the next tv rights deal I've been told …
Remember the meeting last month that Gus Gould , Nick Politis / George Peponis held behind Dave Smiths back ?
The independent commission is a joke and if the above mentioned get their way the independent commission will be torn down ...

And would make you wonder why he quit for such a minor thing

Probably because some searching would of found far worse

They did all the searching, nothing else was revealed.

This is ICAC we are taking about, they don't back off just because someone resigns.

Barry set high standards for himself, and he put his hand up when he didn't meet those standards. Not many others would have the balls to do what he did.

Fact is he is not 'dirty' or corrupt as some on here have mentioned. ICAC themselves confirmed that.

Well said Abraham. Some very ill-informed and basically silly comments made in this thread about BOF. Would be a very good CEO - but that is not to say there is no better candidate; the executive search will answer that question.

I'm not sure about the search. I hear their is an extraordinary (non standard) directors meeting called for tonight.

Sounds like an appointment to me…

The only one likely in this scenario is Barry O

Let's be clear, Barry was not found to be corrupt in any way shape or form.

He did what was probably the most honourable that a pollie has done one recent memory, and resign the moment he realised he had misled the inquiry.

It was a shock to the most senior political reporters that he stood down for what amounted to nothing,

Probably the biggest pile of crap I've ever laid eyes on.

Given the extent of corruption in NSW politics over the past decade, accepting a bottle of grange from a lobbyist is very much at the minor end.

Of course it is Larry, glad to see someone provide a little clarity.

Everyone complains about not being able to sign big name players but no one wants a go getter from the big end of town who may be able to use his contacts and profile to make this happen.

Precious bunch.

He's a liar. We don't need liars running the show.

WD,Barry was in politics, part of the job is that you must lie to the voters, then try and survive the onslaught..would you prefer,Obied,Maitland,MacDonald and co,they ripped millions off NSW people and get away Scott free…the other major thing is,who and what is available to be our CEO and take us further forward as a great club..

No I wouldn't want any of those, nor would I want any other dodgy dealer. I'm not familiar with who the best candidate would be currently, but I sure as hell am sure that shady pollies aren't the best option. If they are, then that's a real sad state of affairs.

This business is built on relationships, the business world is based on relationships. To succeed you need to have relationships with the right people around you. I am not talking about corruption, I am referring to successful working relationships. We lose good players that go to the likes of Melbourne, the Chooks and the Dogs because they have more powerful relationships than we do - simple as that.

How do you introduce successful relationships to our club? A club that only make the 8 three times in 10 years…that sacks coaches and administrators. Our club relies far too heavily on Harry, but that doesn't seem to be a problem through the rose coloured glasses on this forum. How do you think Harry became successful and manages to buy all that land in the middle of the city?

If Barry can bring relationships to our club that will help financially then I am al for it. He is a loyal supporter and the way he was portrayed and dumped as premier was poor and a massive overreaction when compared to the likes of Tripodi and Eddie Obeid.

Hope not. Dodgy dealings are not what's needed. A shady customer in a position of power again? He's proven he can't be trusted . He's a politician ffs.

Totally agree WD - shonky as they come. Wouldn't even let him in the door = let alone run the place.

I couldn't care less about the bottle of grange (small g) TT - what worries me is what he did to the Balmain Leagues Club development. Oh! but he loves the Tigers.

Russ, didn't you think I could read the reply once,as for the Balmain Leagues Club,I don't think it was all his doing…the damage was done well before he could repair anything...

I presume you accidentally submitted twice....

I wouldn't get to excited or worried either way, the speculation is based on a tweet from April last year and a betting agency opening a book at the same time. Really? that is quality journalism! April last fricken year!
