Basket Cases

We were the Basket case of 2017.

Losing Coach JT
Key players leaving
Players we let go kicking on
Win 7 games in total
**Finishing second last**

We are in denial if less than dismal form in the latter rounds has made us forget.

I think we def had a season that cant see us sink any lower

Nope Equal 13th…GCT style..

Dogs number 1 with a bullet...Re-signing a Coach only to face the prospect of paying out a cool mill to punt him 3 months later..A terrible roster..signing players beyond their means ..having to shed heart and soul players just to get square..

Titans are just a Case...

St George Illawarra's tumble out of the 8 was also classic basket weaving...

We haven't done anything stupid of late.
In the mean time, the Dogs turmoil continues to grow.
Saints left Dugan out for missing the bus. Then the coach and senior players made it public detailing there run for the finals. Last images of Dugan was him sitting in the middle of the field crying.
Panther have their ex captain sitting out the finals. Gus has said he has head problems just starting to get themselves into growing Basket Case territory.
Souths are a club in crises.

No we wont sink any lower based on your first two points. Go the mighty Wests Tigers without the divas! :sign:

Sheer,

Dont get me wrong - Regardless of the result

The First two made for tumultuous times and very negative press.

All our clubs stupidity was up front. The others caught up.

Got to agree that we couldn't have sunk much lower this season, we were a total laughing stock by the time Tim Sim got outed betting against us.
But once Ivan came along and the contracts of Woods, Tedesco and anorexic ferret Moses were sorted out we managed to turn it around and finished the year pretty strongly. That was a great achievement through adversity IMO and something that hopefully forges a harder, stronger resolve amongst our whole club both on and off the field into the future.
Hopefully major lessons were learnt throughout the whole ordeal.
We are now looking good.
If the Warriors were a NSW based club the media would have an absolute feeding frenzy on the continued underachievement of their team. Luckily for them out of sight, out of mind.
Their owner wants out, they are stuck with Kearney who couldn't coach a toddler to soil itself, and they finished 14th with the NZ Test spine playing for them along with a squad that is littered with past and present Internationals. On return-for-investment value they are an absolute disgrace. Their club is the place good footy players go to die.

To True FTB. Like the NSW media I forgot about the Warriors. They should have been in my Top5.

Does anyone know why Gould sacked Ivan?
Sounds like Phil is trying his best to turn a good young talented team into a Basket Case. Getting Wallace from Brisbane who Griffen sacked then Getting rid of Ivan and replacing him with Griffen has made for a split change room.

At the time I thought it was the dumbest decision to sack Cleary. The next dumbest was to replace him with Griffin.
Griffen had a year of playing Hoffman at 6 and let Norman go to Parra.

Like all of us I just want a year where results on the field are the priority not the dramas in the back ground or in the media. I think Ivan is the man for the job although I was not sure when appointed. Just need the players to stay out of trouble and perform on the field and we should have good times ahead.

Well for 2018 here are my bottom 4

16\. Warriors
15\. Dogs
14\. Titans
13\. A decent side that severely underperforms or is smashed with injuries

I don't expect The Dogs to stay down.

Me neither, they finished the season well and showed what they are capable of. They have shed who they needed to shed and bought well for next year. I don't think they will be as 'down' as some on here are hoping they will be. Time will tell, but let's focus on our own backyard instead of death riding other teams.

Not sure what you are basing this off. Just because historically they are a strong side, it does not change they have an average, ageing roster, with a tired coach whose out of ideas and is turning into the new Tim Sheens. They have no established halfback or hooker, an average (im being kind) fullback, and no real strike out wide. Plus the two players who epitomise their club the most are now both gone. Where is the improvement coming from? Answering by saying the Dogs always bounce back does not wash, becsuse all the times in the past that they have, have they ever had a roster as average as this and a coach who is losing it?

No one did any death riding just pointing out what a basket case they are. At least Souths did a quit and decisive move with the coach. The Bulldogs board are fight. The coach has no certainty either way. Fans are unhappy with the team and there is more basket case behaviour to come.

P.S has Gus put Moylan on a farm?

You missed Simona, happy tiger, stryker (later did a Benji and came back) and a few others who didn't do the farewell tour.

At the backend of 2017, which club do you rank as the biggest "Basket Case"?

Talking into account Front Office leaks, coach killing Players, dressing room lost. Media speculation. Boardroom splits, Disgruntled Fans, Walking Headlines and the like.

Here's my Top5

1.Titians
2\. Dogs
3\. Souths
4\. Penrith
5\. Saints/Raiders

That's a top 6\. Just sayin'…

Also I think that's harsh on penrith. When you side with the coach it generally means the place can keep running. They've done well despite a couple of players allegedly offering to mow their teamates lawns.

All they've bought is Woods, Foran and Nu Brown. Foran has been bog average for the Warriors for the last 2/3 of the season (when he's actually played). Nu Brown is no better than Lichaa would have been if he'd been allowed to run the ball. Woods is a good signing but it's cost them a good workhorse prop and a good leader in Graham. They really haven't bought well at all…I've got a feeling they'll improve as well but it won't be on the back of a great recruitment drive.

They've punted the catalyst for those results. Funny how Lichaa comes out and says my career is on the line so I'll play how I want, and they start winning games. Des will get another no frills hooker and they'll fall back to Desball (that's if he survives the off season.)

They'll probably have an ordinary year next year, but they'll bounce back after that, they're never out of the running for long.

Well, Woods and Forun will help. Lichaa will be kept at DH I would think after his last few performances - that should all help to keep them up a bit.
