Beau Ryan

2.5 years ago I would have swapped him for a bag of potatoes but he's a classic example of just how much someone with a great attitude can achieve.
Love you Beau!

haha classic! yeah im the same. I would have paid cash to get rid of him. He was a massive pea heart, now he is THE HEART of the Tigers. Just goes to show you can polish a t*rd…....i mean, it just goes to show what can happen with a great work ethic and attitude. Id sign him up first before most these so called "marquee" players we have.

Hes going good but some people need to stop over rating our players.

Anyone who throws Ryan's name in the same sentence as Origin has rocks in there head. To put him anywhere near the class of origin NSW wingers like Uate, B.Morris or Hayne is ridiculous. The same people talked about Ayshford last year in the same breath, and he cant even set up his outside man.

As I said he is going good, but keep it in perspective. Hes an honest toiler, tries hard, loves the club, does the 1% plays very well.

x2

let's not get carried away. hes going great at club level, but hes not up to origin standard. at best, he's as good a player as wolfman and turner, and look how they did at origin

but i dont want to take away from his great performances this yr. hes been one of our best players and deserves a lot of praise. it just annoys me when ppl call for every dck, bob and harry to make the team

Put it this way -

If they had been considering Fergusson, **considering Everingham**, and have actually put Buhrer into the Origin squad as a bolter, Beau Ryan should be almost considered unlucky to not rate a mention.

Don't think they ever considered him , UD.
Ryan has always put in for us - some people had it in for him last year but his form was ok then too.
Realistically though if you had a free choice of two players out of him , Uate and Hayne then he'd be your last pick.

My head must be full of rocks then. He is made for origin football. Hardly any mistakes in his game. Tackles well, reads the game well, can sniff out a try and does not get hurt often. Sounds like an origin player to me.

Hayne? Morris? Uate? what have they done to deserve selection? Uate maybe, however, Ryan is the form winger at the moment by a long way. Would not let anyone down.

I must have rocks in my head as well, Col, cause I couldn't agree with you more!

Ryan has not only done all the basics well this year, but he has put on some plays that not many wingers have been able to do. How often have you seen wingers, put under pressure, kick, chase and score all in the one play this year? Ryan has already done this twice, I think, perhaps even 3 times. There is not much about his game that anyone could criticise at the moment - he gets himself involved in just about everything! There is no reason why he shouldn't be considered for Origin selection, especially when you look at some of the others in contention.

Because Beau would get smashed at SOO level He lacks the size required to play winger at this level and personally I think he would get found out speed wise

Don't get me wrong he has been great at club level for us

But it is a huge step up from NRL to SOO

I'd prefer to see Rowdy on the wing at SOO level

With all due respect, rubbish.

He handled the "beast" ok the last couple of times that we have played against the Warriors. I would think that if he was eligible, the beast would be playing soo for either nsw or qld. So I think that, given the chance, Ryan may suprise a lot of people.

So Col the step up from NRL to SOO isn't a massive step

Beau plays at his maximum every week ,which we all appreciate but he would struggle to take the next step . If Qld are at full strength he would be marking Yow Yeh or Boyd I'm sorry to say pace wise they would make a mess of him I reckon Tate after 3 knee recos is faster than him still

He would get badly dominated trying to get out of dummy half as well

I love the guy for the Tigers , but Col and Flip you are kidding yourself if you think he would be a success at SOO and I guarantee we will never find out either

My original post which started this was just to highlight people need to calm down with these stupid origin calls. Heighno was never good enough for origin, Ayshford was never good enough for origin and Ryan is certainly not good enough for origin. Woods, Farah and an in form Lawrence are a different kettle of fish.

As I said Ryan is a 1% player. He makes alot of hit ups, is generally pretty safe under the high ball, his defensive reads are outstanding, his defence is solid, he is a good support player etc. But I ask you this, has he made a linebreak this year? Serious question and Id guess probably not. We look to Benji, Moltzen, Farah etc for that as we no there capable and most likely.

But Ryan doesnt have the pace, size or skill to play Origin. This is going to piss alot of people off, but the reason he generally has to kick ahead for the tries hes scoring, is cause he doesnt have the speed the good wingers do to just back himself for the line (or barge over like his precessors Tuiaki and Richards). Thats just an unfortunate fact. And good on him for making use of some other skills, but it doesnt always work (I.E- Saints semi).

Regardless, the point is hes playing very well, and an influence on the teams culture, but hes not near origin level. I dont think hed get destroyed at origin level like previously suggested, but he wouldnt contribute in any way and if he was given space hed be mowed down in a heartbeat by any of Queenslands outside backs.

Same with Ayshford, he makes a few good runs vs the Warriors and people lose there nut. In three years of NRL I still fail to rememberr a time Ayshford has set up his outside man. And his positional play and defence at times can be a little off. Again, a good player at club level, certainly not dynamic like people think, but no where near the calibre of origin centres.

Its reasons like this people get so dissapointed with some of our results, they can not understand why all our "superstars" are not living up to expectation.

IMHO, on form this year, Beau is certainly if not the first than within 2 of the best NSW #2\. He is not as strong as Utai or fast as Grant, but his 'football brain' and skills make him very effective.

Go Tigers
