Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy is reportedly considering an offer to move to rival club St George Illawarra for the 2013 NRL season.

Fox Sports is reporting that Bellamy has confirmed he will decide on his immediate future in January, just weeks before the start of the season.

"It is either Storm or one other club…" the Storm icon is reported as saying.

Bellamy is not naming St George as the team that has approached him. He has coached Storm since 2003, and as recently as October he rejected a big offer from the New Zealand Warriors.

Bellamy is signed to coach Melbourne until the end of 2013, when it was expected he might consider a move. But the possibility of the premiership mentor leaving more than half-way through pre-season is a major shock.

Bellamy, who led the Storm to a premiership just two years after the club was stripped of two premierships over salary cap breaches, previously maintained that he would remain with the Storm in 2013, but had been non-committal about his future beyond 2013.

if this story materializes then St. George will go close in equalling their 12 grand final wins in a row. With Belly Ache at the Dragons you know its gonna be another dragons dynasty.

How history repeats itself in the NRL. Bulldogs and Dragons in dynasty era in the modern day.

The good news for us Wests Tigers spiritual people is that we have that connection with Potter with both Bulldogs and Dragons.

Maybe Mat parish can apply for the Melbourne job.

THE St George-Illawarra Dragons have launched a brazen $6 million bid to snatch super coach Craig Bellamy from Melbourne Storm before the start of next season.

The premier coach took a break from his Gold Coast holiday yesterday to reveal it was "50-50" chance he would quit Melbourne.

While he wouldn't name the Dragons, Bellamy said: "It is either Storm or one other club and I want to make the decision in January."

Sources have revealed Dragons boss Peter Doust has offered Bellamy even more than seven-time premier coach Wayne Bennett earned in his three years at the club.

They have been in negotiations since mid-November with his agent John Fordham.

Bellamy has already knocked back an approach from the New Zealand Warriors but is taking the Saints offer far more seriously.

With incentives and finals bonuses, the contract could be worth as much as $1.2 million a season.

Bellamy yesterday revealed the contract will almost certainly be the last of his career.

"It might be three years or it might be five years," he said, "It will see me out. I'm 54 now and that's probably long enough for my liking.

"I probably shouldn't say that but it's how I feel.

"The important thing is, I don't want this dragging on and on.

"The decision needs to be made in January or certainly before we go to England for the World club challenge."

Bellamy would not publicly confirm the Dragons, insisting that it "wouldn't be fair to the club or the coach".

But there now appears to be a realistic chance he will leave Melbourne Storm, the club at where he launched his coaching career a decade ago in 2003.

Given his standing in the game and the fact he rebuilt Storm after the salary cap scandal, his loss would be a massive blow to the club's future in the NRL. He does admit it would be difficult to leave the likes of superstars Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk.

"Of course it would be hard to leave them," Bellamy said.

"That's part of the decision I have to make. We're all very close."

No doubt the big three will be trying their hardest to convince Bellamy to stay at the Storm when they return from a 10-day Christmas-New Year break.

So too will the club's owners News Limited, who understand that the possible future sale of the club will be seriously affected if Bellamy walks.

The Dragons remain quietly confident. With a lower profile coach, Steve Price, the club has struggled to recruit class players.

They failed to make the finals last season and will again struggle to make the top eight in 2013.

The big question is who would replace Bellamy at the Storm if he chose to join the Dragons.

Cameron Smith's name has already been mentioned as a possible captain-coach but it is highly unlikely he could take on such an important role combined with his Origin and World Cup commitments in 2013.

I hope Bellamy goes to the Dragons…they will really show him up as a coach...no big 3 to bail him out every game..

I can see Bellamy starting the whole process again with a new big 3 in their late teens/early twenties at the Dragons.

The Storm big 3 are in their late twenties and it might just be the right time to move on.

Bellamy basically turned Cronk from a nothing utility player into the Australian halfback. His first game as head coach was the day Billy Slater made his debut and Cameron Smith wouldn't have had 5 games to his name. He also brought through Inglis, Folau, King, Hoffman, Johnson, and many more. To say the guy is anything but a fantastic coach is ridiculous. I believe he'd do well at the Dragons, however I don't think he will go there, if he doesn't win the comp in his first year he will cop too much criticism. I expect him to stay with the Storm for a few more years.

Bingo. He'll ride the wave for a few more years yet. He's only young, plenty of time for him to chase challenges after the Big Three have moved on.

he won't leave Melbourne ,reason being New schools for his kids, new environment ,his kids basically grew up in Melbourne and already have there friends there, don't think it will happen .
He will be looked after in Melbourne , will see out his next contract then move his family back to Q.L.D , just my thoughts….but then again money talks.

I would of thought if Bellamy was to coach any other team it would be the Broncos. The next few years will be interesting as assumably, Cronk, Slater and Smith enter the final phases of their careers. Its also interesting to note that his next contract will be his last, you'd think Bellamy would still have plenty to offer as a coach.

I posted that he was going to the Dragons months ago! 2013 will be his last year in Melbourne!!

Which means we need to work out which of the plethora of junior talent we have in the halves are the best two to play 6 and 7 into the future at the Tigers and make sure we do everything to keep them
