Ben Elias Interview

Don't disagree with him - pointing the finger at Sheens - you could see on the coverage on CH9 on Friday night a player with his hands in his head looking like he did not want to be there - I agree no energy in the room and it really showed when they played - Parra just were so much more enthusiastic than the Tigers.

Well said Benny. Perhaps it's time for a few respected past greats to get an invitation to the dressing room to ram home some truths. Blokes like Blocker and Tommy, who shed blood playing for a fraction of what today's pampered poodles get.

Like everyone, he is pretty right. I don't think the attitude will change until someone announces that they are staying, instead of going.

For example, if it was announced tomorrow that Heighington was staying on definitely, or Ellis was definitely staying or something of that nature. Bring some credibility and love to the place. One of the players needs to come out and announce they are STAYING.

Or, if they are looking for a serious has-been overweight gimp to play at number 6 for $400K a year, they have my number…..

Benny usually makes me cringe when he opens his mouth, but what he said was very true and I hope it hits home at camp Concord.

I really think 2011 is dead buried, so lets get everything out in the open and start building for 2012 and beyond. Keep the door open and if ANYONE wants to walk let them, than start the hard work with a committed playing roster

When I was reading his quotes, I couldn't help but look for incorrect phrases, cliches, etc.
He passed this test though! 😱pen_mouth:

Elias calls for Tigers to look in the mirror
Glenn Jackson
July 11, 2011

BALMAIN great Ben Elias has urged Wests Tigers to undertake some soul searching in a bid to arrest their slide down the ladder, saying he could see there was a ''significant problem'' at the club.

With the Tigers losing their third straight game on Friday night, against Parramatta, and the club going through some off-field turbulence with talk of unrest at the departure of several players, Elias said the Tigers needed to fix their problems ''sooner rather than later''.

''Every Tigers supporter is disappointed and umpteen people have been coming up to me saying, 'What the hell's going on there?''' Elias said. ''The players and the coach would probably be the first to admit there needs to be some soul searching in the joint. We've got a phenomenal side. We've got some great players, the best in the world in some of the positions, if not at least the top three. Benji [Marshall] is a standout, Robbie [Farah] [Gareth] Ellis, [Lote] Tuqiri, [Chris] Lawrence. On paper it's a terrific side, almost perfect, but practically, we're pathetic.''

The Tigers have not won since their round-14 victory over the Warriors in Auckland - which was ironically predicted to be a season-turner for them. Since then the club has had to contend with the departures of Bryce Gibbs and Andrew Fifita to Cronulla and Tim Moltzen to St George Illawarra, as well as the continued talk that Chris Heighington and Beau Ryan are bound for Penrith.

''Anyone would say we haven't been playing well over the last five or six weeks,'' Elias said. ''I haven't got the wand to wave to make it turn around. There needs to be some serious soul searching, and it needs to happen sooner rather than later. There's no more tomorrow. We can't afford to continue to play like we are.''

Elias said the buck needed to stop with coach Tim Sheens. ''The coach is always answerable,'' he said. ''He's the one who gets the accolades if we win and questions are asked if we don't. But he's been through these situations before. He's the only one who can turn things around. He needs to get to the bottom of what's causing it. I don't know what the problem is. When you're not winning, there's always problems.

''Sheens is a good coach. But he needs to find out what the problem is. I went into their dressing room at Parramatta Stadium and I could feel the energy is not there. That's up to the coach and senior people. With the players we've got and the coach we've got, the supporters are entitled to have high expectations and we're not getting that … It seems like there's a significant problem there. But we will find it. I don't know when, but it will happen.''

Elias said teammates leaving was not an excuse. ''I go back to what Warren Ryan used to tell us when he was coach. He would ask us, 'Do you want to be a footballer or do you want to be a TV star? This is your job, this is what you're here for.'''

Why does Benny align himself with Max Delmege?

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/benny-elias-in-support-of-manly-benefactor-max-delmege/story-e6frexnr-1226093465860

_MAX Delmege's life might be in tatters - but at least he can get a little bit of help from his friends.\
\
The property tycoon and Manly benefactor is on his knees both professionally and personally, but he took time out yesterday when good mate Benny Elias took him and a couple of friends to lunch at swanky Manta at Woolloomooloo wharf.\
\
Elias came out swinging for his embattled buddy, declaring: "Max has been through a rough time, but his only crime was he saved Manly.\
\
"If it wasn't for Max, the Manly Warringah club wouldn't be here today and they wouldn't have won the premiership in 2008 - there would have been one million people lost to AFL and rugby. His life has been a bit sour, but we thought today we'd try and pep him up."_

Awesome Benny - Manly is the prime example of a club living off the sacrifices made by Wests and Balmain. Manly should not be allowed to stand alone let alone play 10 home games at a sub-standard ground that does not meet the NRL criteria. Obviously love is blind…...
