Ikin should look at his own club, they have a lot more issues than WT.

Brisbane have been a great watch ever since Ikin took over. Won a lot more of their games and they were in practically every game they lost. He’s recruited well and re signed the teams best young players. Take off the orange and black glasses

You must be watching a different team to the one i have been watching

I see an opportunity for the right coach to take this group forward onto better results. To do so, I would like a new coach to have the following attributes -

a noted person manager
very good interpersonal skills
great comms skills
a strategic approach
an ability to sum up the strengths of the squad
an ability to devise game plans around those strengths
a cuddle or fatherly talk for those players who need it

So you think Sheens will fix it?

We need a new coach. Sheens is not coming to be a coach but I hope he has a mentoring role at the club. Sheens is a huge asset and wealth of knowledge.

To be honest, and I thought I would never say this, I would take Sheens with a very clear succession plan in place where he trains up his replacement.

No thanks. He's done as a coach. He should not be anywhere near coaching ranks.

We need something that shifts the needle for this club and I do not see it coming from anywhere else

I would rather Flanagan and his needles here than Sheens in the coaches box again. He hasn't coached NRL for a decade, his last coaching stint was with Hull KR a few seasons back for a couple of years and he finished with 41% win rate. He hasn't got it any more.

The lack of options is what has had me most concerned about removing Madge, but it has got to the point where there are no other options and he has to go. I know it is stretching it with Sheens, but the system I would like to set up is Sheens with (in my ideal scenario) someone like Ciraldo slowly taking over in a 24 month period. I just not happy to dump a rookie in and have him have to deal with this club.

I just don't see a lot of better options out there.

But don’t you think player efforts and attitudes are part of the problem?

Have we got the mix right, it appears to me, we haven’t?

Certainly agree with the youth policy, but some “good” experience amongst them, was/is needed? I think you said earlier, that they were looking 100+ game players, hopefully we have identified them?

Unfortunately the captain we brought in, hasn’t worked?

I agree that the players are part of the problem, but I also don't like how madge has changed his messaging on that as well. When he got the job he stated he could win with the squad given to him. He now uses that squad as an excuse for him not meeting that goal. He has but himself in opposition to the players and there is no return from there.

Worked for Ricky Stuart when he came out and said, until I get rep quality players this club will continue to be what it is. Club listened, GF 2 years later.

And what if one of the prime reasons you can not attract players of that quality is the coach?

Is it only the coach or our purchasing policy?

I mentioned about a month ago that he's lost our players and they want him out. Other players don't want to come because of Madge. There's some stuff that will probably come out in the media eventually in the years after he's gone that will explain why this is further.

So you have faith in the playing group to make that call? "Other players don't want to come because of Maguire" is that what they told you? A look in the mirror might be a good idea.
Until they have achieved something they should probably be aiming for that, rather than trying to destroy someone else's and deflecting blame.

I wouldn't have the faith in the playing group to make that call if I hadn't heard some of the stuff about Madge I referred to above. The playing group's attitude especially amongst some of our more experienced players is still a major hindrance to our teams success though, that's no question. I just don't think Madge was the man.

I think a lot of people have far too much faith in Tim Sheens personally. He got ditched too remember.

I agree, but there is not a lot out there that will have a high chance of success.

I have been back and forth in my mind about Madge all year. The reason for this is when we make change I wanted to be confident of the success of that change. In my view alll a coaching change was going to do was provide some hope that things will get better. After 10 years I want more than hope, I want confidence. I always had a small hope that Madge would turn it around, after the past month, that hope is gone in my mind.

So at this point I can not see an option out there that we provide me with confidence that the future will be better, I will accept a chance of direction to provide hope for the future, because of right now I have none with madge.

The year proved that without doubt, we don't have the squad to win more than we lost. i'm of the firm belief that again, we got very few favours onfield from referees. There's got to be a change in personnel to end up with a team that can overcome adversity during a game. Our blokes time and time again went to water. I can't blame the coach for that. It's been made very clear that the future is youth. We always say bring our own through. paradoxically, we don't want to wait until they're ready. We call for youth - now, and blame the coach when they fail. We sack (or lose) coaches and turn over rosters - re-build after re-build and endlessly wish for the cycle to end and then call for the coaches head when the plan we all want is in place but we can't hack the journey. I think as fans, we're much like the team. No stickability. We want a short cut. Good luck with that.

Some will recall Ben Ikin at the start of the year was quite scathing in calling us a bottom 4 roster. Most on here disagreed but I think it’s fair to say we finished 13th and that’s about where we are. Par for the course based on our roster.

But let’s waste more resources and time on a review and not focus on the elephant. The fact we can’t actually improve the roster with the current people at the helm.

Ikin is one of the smartest going around.

Alot of the smarter names all could see warning bells at the start of the year. But Madge has won a comp before and knows how to coach. He needs cattle to coach and the issue is he doesn’t attract the cattle. Talk is cheap. He has had 3 seasons and we have gotten worse each year. He had money this year to spend has alot more next year and even more the year after - we have signed no one. Not even a talent kid to look forward to. We haven’t signed a player for next year yet from another clubs top 30, not 1 - let that soak in.

Bennett is available
Add in someone like Ciraldo for Bennet to hand the reigns over which he does often and could be the right way forward.

We need someone who can manage the players and get us playing as a team for each other. Madge doesn’t coach that way.

What if that is their best? I heard him all season saying we have to be more resilient. I thought he was quite determined to own the results. I don't know. I just want stability in the leadership. Seems now if the coach is sacked, we're back to either the players running the show, or the crappy board making crappy excuses until the next few years passes and we'll go through it all again.

what about John Morris? why did the sharks get rid of him, i thought he was a decent, young, up and comer of a coach? Wouldn't mind having him he seemed good...

So if we had a bottom 4 roster which i agreed with at the start of the year and we finiahed bottom 4 -you could say Madge didnt under achieve and did what anyone did with the roster.

If we had beaten the Dogs, we would have finished 11th. Madge was 1 win against the *spooners* away from overachieving.

Read into this however you want.

BUT we didnt .. we didnt beat the wooden spooners

Just like saying we were 3 wins away from making the finals... We didnt win those games

95% of our squad is not NRL standard , hence why no one wants to come here and since we arent paying overs anymore, there's no financial gain for a NRL standard player to join us

Haha mate I'm with you, I think the fact that we lost to the spooners means we're shoe-ins for the spoon next year. I just know some people on this forum will read into it like, "well, we were *THAT* close to overachieving, it's not all bad."

It's pretty much as bad as it could be for the Tigers imo. Our roster is so depressing.

I don't disagree with that, I" think it also proved we don't have a coach who is able to get the best out of the players at his disposal and willing to cast blame onto others to deflect it from himself. The players act in the same way.

When he got here he said he could win with the squad we had, since mid season he has been blaming the squad he inherited.

Bennett is available
Add in someone like Ciraldo for Bennet to hand the reigns over which he does often and could be the right way forward.

We need someone who can manage the players and get us playing as a team for each other. Madge doesn’t coach that way.

Bennett would not be good for us as a club.He is only after short term success with good rosters and its a "scorched earth" policy when he leaves. We need to be built as a club

I have concerns about Bennett that I already raised so won't rehash that lol

So do I, he is a win now and sometimes at all costs.
He would probably only come for 1 maybe 2 seasons max. He does attract players to clubs always has and he does know how to coach players to play as a team. If we could get Ciraldo as his apprentice then it would be worth it as he can coach & has direct detailed knowledge of the Panthers and other pathways systems.

If we want to be a youth team in a few years getting a figure head like Bennet and Sheens is throwing everything at us changing - if those 2 can’t do it no one can.

I just don’t see Sheens in that role, if he wants to be caretaker thats cool but my understanding is he had planned to come back and reside more in the country than city fulltime hence Bennet. I don’t think we get someone like Ciraldo without a very big carrot to cleanup a mess & pulling power to then set him up.
