Benji 2025 and Beyond

Yes I agree that’s a big problem, but it appears the core of our NRL team have formed an alliance with Benji, therefore it would likely make a bad situation worse if we chose to move him on anytime soon.
Therefore the only way out of the hole we are currently in is with smart recruitment that would make a big improvement to our playing roster.
The leadership group supporting the coach is a problem?
Its usually a problem when the coach loses the shed.
This is just forum BS perpetuating

Everyone's comments really baffle me.

We need a lock, we need a centre, we need a halfback etc etc...

We need better coaches, better admin, better support staff. We need to invest more money into grassroots, into academies and into junior coaches.

WE are not a one town team like Cronulla, Manly, Newcastle etc nor do we have godfathers like Roosters, Dogs etc.b
I agree....a couple of new players here and there is just a band aid solution....weve been talking bout this for nearly 2 decades...problems much run deeper.
Its not working at the top...we.need to cut HBG out and get.private owners in that wiĺl spend the $$$$ needed that we arent getting now.
Every frigging year we give every other team so much head start even this year when it looked good early ...themlong season eventually takes its toll on that headstart

I’m not sure if the HBG are highly involved in our rugby league related decisions or not, but as I stated earlier, why would they be paying Richo a million dollars per year to be our CEO if they were just going to go against him and make their own decisions ?
That doesn’t make sense does it ?
I’m sure the HBG doesn’t tell our players to play badly, I’m sure they don’t tell Benji to coach us badly and I’m sure they don’t tell Richo and Benji which players to recruit or cut loose, that’s purely on them.
So I’m not sure why we keep blaming HBG for poor onfield results ?

Ashfield has never given a stuff about football other than token involvement.
Theyre not telling richo or.players anything but as our major financier theyre not providing richo or our players the funds to get these decisions made rhe way they need to be.
Were hamstrung.
Guys like Hage on the poddy and the fact we need to seeks upgrades to our grounds because they provide buggernall corporate revenue as they stand...the recruitment personell or.lack.of compare to.other clubs...when one staffers punted for talking to agents or media (i forget what callaway was alleges to have done)...and then we cant replace him and we shuffle dexk chairs with people doing 2 and 3 jobs
Someone smarter than me can probably provide more solid facts and figures but as far back as when i was a kid ashfield never gave the FC two hoots.
I may well.be wrong but weve tried everything & changed everything in 20 years.
Some say were cursed im sure thats just tongue in cheek.
Im not sure whats.left.other than privatisation...someone that really truly wants us to succeed and are not in it for themselves

Bugger all corporate revenue but also like nothing reverberates really at Campbelltown at an emotional level as well. I think just playing at Commbank might be the way. There is no money but also no cultural thread running through the place anymore.

We claim Terra Nullius at Campbelltown like we are the British Empire, and doing so means that we 'have' all the juniors there, but the club is really only playing lip service to the area. There is no football club in Campbelltown. We play some games there but I think its more demoralising for our own players than it is to the visitors. To add fire to that, guys like Denny Burgess, old Magpie vets seem to hate Campbelltown even more than they hate Balmain.

The Bryce Gibbs, Liam Fulton generation of Campbelltown kids that grew up watching the Magpies play every week in Campbelltown....(my generation) I'm not sure kids playing in Ctown growing up now feel that connection or relevance with Wests to Campbelltown any more. The stadium is like a tired old monolith for an idea that was never followed through properly. It meant nothing to either Galvin or Tedesco -- (Who's from Camden, not Ctown anyway).

The only player to ever really exclaim about Campbelltown stadium lovingly was Jarryd Hayne, who grew up in Minto and claimed it as 'His House' when the Titans beat us there in like 2016. It's now just as foreign and weird to our players as it is to clubs coming to visit. Campbelltown City Council listed a job for that place last month (Stadium Manager), and listed the Macarthur Bulls as the main tenants, and couldn't even spell Wests Tigers correctly in the Job Description!

Even our junior teams hardly ever play at the place right? They're back at Lidcombe. I just feel like under the surface of this Joint Venture, there is no actual 'Club' anymore. Everyone is just squabbling over its identity. Even if you have all these Feeder clubs and Juniors, why ask them to care about something that we don't even really seem to fully care about ourselves. Or the local council either.??

With respect, an anecdote about a job ad for the council doesn’t really say much to me as any evidence of anything about the Wests Tigers …my council ( Northern Beaches) does plenty of dumb things too,,,

Things are far from cheery at any of the 3 areas that comprise the combined club these days … its probably to be expected when the NRL team has had the worst losing record of any club in 60 years and has a fourth successive spoon in its sights …. 20 wins in their last 80 odd games …these are pretty unprecedented in recent times in terms of lack of success for a professional Australian sporting team …

The ground needs major money put into it and you can’t expect the ratepayers to fund it … i dont know what the answer is to what’s best for the club … I think Richo might be bluffing and they end up keeping a couple of games there..particularly whilst LO is undergoing some renovations in the short term…maybe if certain people keep up the fight things might improve financially for the State Govt to come up with the money … and they get some money a couple of years down the track.. maybe the MacArthur Bulls whoever they are can help with that as well…

Like most of the other issues that surround the club ….im sure a lot of them would be improved if they could have even modest mid table success for a couple of years

If it was ever to work out
No matter what way I try and look at it, I just can't see Benji working out. Even if we give him a couple of years to learn, I don't see him improving quickly enough to be the coach that we need. And realistically, we can't afford to have a coach learning on the job (that's what coaching pathways and being an assistant is for).
If it was ever to work out Benji needed to put his ego aside and hire decent assistants caple of coaching the team X an 0s as well as attack and defence. Instead Benji being so paranoid he was allowed to hire all his mates.

Benji is a great man manager (people want play for him)very similar to Bennett only Bennett has always been smart enough to surround himself with good people and let the assistants coach the team.

Also it shits me every time I see him jump in at training, your the bloody head coach. stand back and look at the over all picture instead of inserting yourself as one of the bloody weeds .......

I don’t think Hayne meant it in that context. He had just come back from the US, and he was big on bringing that trash US athlete culture where they all carry on like they are 10 ft tall. He meant it in the context that he was the man. Mundine style. I remember Nathan Friend, his own teammate rolling his eyes when recounting it after the game. That culture is so alien to Australia.

Yeah can't stand Benji jumping in training. Your not in a country reserve grade side.

Maybe if he sat back and watched the attack helicopter realise how bad it is.

Benji jumping in at training is the least of our problems,
When he jumps in he is presumably demonstrating the lines and plays he is wanting our team to play, no idea how that’s a bad thing?
He seemingly has the blessing and vote of confidence from the senior playing group, which is good in one sense, but my concern is he’s latching on to that and voiding them if any criticism even when it’s warranted as he would know by having their unwavering support it makes it harder to get rid of him even if our results continue to plummet.
My other concern is we have had plenty of our players both NRL and NSW Cup who’s form has virtually fallen off a cliff over the past couple of years. That’s not uncommon it happens at every club, but generally you see at least a few that recover and rediscover their best form thanks to the influence and encouragement of their coach, Corey Horsburgh is a good example, he was mainly playing NSW Cup last season, rumoured to be wanting out and feuding with his coach (Ricky Stuart). Ricky saw the value in Corey as a player, patched up their differences and is now reaping the rewards.
I don’t know if it’s just unlucky, but there doesn’t seem to be any of these success stories with players that fall out of favour at our club and that is Benji’s responsibility.
Let’s see how it pans out with Royce Hunt, it is Benji’s chance to show if he has the quality to turn him around and be of value to us.

Obvious that Richo is overstretched..
Equally obvious that Benji lacks the attributes to be a successful coach.. transparent from the start
Challenge is to find a replacement and timing that achieves buy in from senior players..how many more losses will that take..
I'm ready rite now

Benji lost a lot of respect here ,the way he strutted for the camera's last night.
I think he should have said Imade bad decision with team selections and we dont win another game I should step down year end by ,He wont maybe Richardson should at leased talk about it now.Just win some games now please.

Willie Peters wont accept being an assistant..he has proven himself in ESL...done THE apprenticeship
that Benji never attempted
As well.Benji is not a big enough person to accept contrary views to his own from an assistant coach..which is why he is surrounded by buddies on the coaching staff
Understand yet another coach isnt great, but a successon of poor coaches leads to poor results and becomes a never ending cycle
Need to sever the umbilical with Benji..Sheens last legacy..only question is when not if,and we manage how core senior players to support this change

The NRL is not a place to throw together a young patchwork spine at the last minute. That’s what you get. Latu still looks a bit of a project to me.
yep - the spine needs to be experienced starters - you can get away with carrying one rookie but 3 is ridiculous. Api stays at hooker, AD should have been in the halves and Bird to centre, Sukkar to SR. Staines should have been promoted to FB as this whole experiment of Mason as a FB is a total disaster.

We’re going into a game against a club who has the wood over us without our best players next week. Expecting a win is just being emotional. Time for cool heads and a systematic approach to improving the club gradually. If we have 4 more wins this year it’s a big improvement on the previous 3 years, that should be the immediate aim.

Yes, 4 more wins would be a superb result.
People need to set their expectations ahead of this Roosters game.
We should cop a substantial loss.
