We don't usually come within cooee of the result in emotion-charged games like that. Haven't done for years.
The fact we did yesterday and got up for it is a huge change from the status quo.

Something that has stuck in the back of my mind is the games we struggle in the first 5 or 10 mins but hold out the opposition's continuous attacking raids, we often go on to win.

Fairly indicative of their mental state to start the game, BWG, I'd say.
As we've thought for quite a while, the squad has improved, but intent has been a key, missing ingredient.
Twal epitomised it yesterday. He put on about 4 or 5 big hits and nearly kamikaze'd another haha.
I reckon that would've doubled his career tally for big hits.
He was absolutely sensational in defence and he was the barometer.
I can only dream of an approach like that becoming ingrained.

The signs are looking good for Benji and this crew if they can finish the year off strongly. The team has definitely improved and without the Galvin distraction next year and our spine having time to gel things will get better, barring injuries of course. Putting KPP in the pack is a massive upgrade on Seyfart etc but we still need some more forwards to ensure finals football.

He made some key positional tweaks, the team played to the conditions and the opposition, he got most of his full compliment back and the team played with energy and passion for 80 full minutes, toppling one of the best teams in the comp.
But not convinced about his coaching...
I'm not saying Benji will be the next Bellamy but he is clearly getting value out of this roster and some of the performances have been very respectable, which is something I have hardly been able to say for years.
Not just jagging the odd ugly win or occasionally stomping a terrible opponent, but a season of mostly decent performances, with many players performing to a respectable consistency, hanging tough in matches despite the score line. I see aggression, solidarity and Tigers don't immediately drop their heads when things go awry.
I see long-term average players like Sione Fainu, Doueihi, Sukkar, Twal achieving career-best form, all at the same time. Most of the new recruits are performing as well, and he's shown the balls to drop players who are not meeting standards, even if it means calling up a novice.
Probably only 4 matches so far this year where we were never really in the game (Storm, Panthers #2, Manly, Warriors #2), which is a marked improvement. Even the general NRL public can see Tigers are improving.
Early days yet, but so far Tim Sheens is the only coach who can legitimately claim to have improved the Tigers since he arrived. For everyone else the results were equal or increasingly worse than we'd already had.

Tino is exactly the sort of player they need to take them to the next level … personally I have not seen or heard anything to even connect him to the club as yet …

well they did have 2 knock ons let go..one to kikau that even stevie wonder saw. From memory both were in good attacking positions for us.

I want Benji to succeed as much as any WT supporter.
But what has crossed my mind...........Is it Benji's contract year? Or is it his assistants contract year? Extract the finger year?
What ever it is, listening to the assistants, taking some advice on board or Benji maturing as a coach?
It certainly worked against the Bulldogs. Should win the bye.
Hope the game plans and team morale continue for the remainder of the year?
