BENJI IMPRESSES TIGERS

More preseason propaganda. Its all about getting positive spin out to the masses. I am sure Benji is putting in, but every year its the same stories, nut the names are changed

Last year it was all about Idris training the house down,
I wouldn’t mind seeing Benjii and Brooks togerther , providing that Brooks lifts his game.
I f Reynolds isn’t the saviour that some think he is, I hope he isn’t giventoo long there just because he’s our main signing

Just how do you determine that?
His own form…team results?
How long is long enough?

I know you're not asking me, but on the last point if we are 2 or 3 from 6 then we are on track to improve in a big way given our draw. Unless we are 0 or 1 from 6 then I'd say "change nothing".

With this in mind I think Benji's best chance to make an impact on our season is as the bench utility for the period of Liddle's injury. If he doesn't get this role then surely he is waiting for injury or catastrophicly bad form.

Everything is subjective isn't it. I can't answer your questions but I think we need to win games and if we aren't players that aren't performing will need to be replaced. Hopefully we now have the depth to do that.

Benji is a contracted Channel Nine Personality….

Still doesn't hurt..... and

I hope he is going well.

Benji is there for when Reynolds and Brooks get selected for SOO.

About as plausible as any other option this time of year.

My 2c no6 back then. Now either 6,7 or 9 in parts.

There's merit to Watto's idea.

I don't think Liddle is ready yet and Macca is just a tackling machine. Grub defends well in the middle, can run the ball and can kick in play.

Whether that's what Cleary does remains to be seen.

Apart from the last time Reynolds spent any decent time at 9 was Under 8's…

Didn't realised he debuted for Canterbury at the age of 7\. What a prodigy.

One thing that will be for sure come round 1 is that Reynolds and Brooks will be the halves combo. So where does that leave Benji, I'd say it would be in reserve grade. He was running around up here for Redcliffe until he got his opportunity with the Bronx.
Another thing I don't really want Benji on the bench either, couldn't think of anything worse he defending in the centre. I think if Liddle isn't right for rd1 it will be Taylor and McIIrick for mine. Maybe with Macca starting.

I thought we all were agreed first time round that Benji was a 6 , not a 7

He **was** a 6 then but he's probably a 7 now. His best season in the relatively recent past was in 2015 as halfback for the Dragons when he finished 2nd in the Dally M count.

Yes but he had quality 6's outside him in Widdop and Milford who have good running games and can be creative

Don't think Josh fits the mould of Widdop or Milford , that's the problem

Not saying Josh isn't a good player , just a different player that's all

If you want a better combination of the two combinations Brooks and Marshall would be better than Marshall and Reynolds

I'm hoping Reynolds is allowed to play his running game the way he did a few years ago before Des wanted him as a structured ball playing 5/8\. He was always a running 5/8.

Which is interesting as Cleary wants to throw the ball around too. It's why I see Reynolds as more Center then 5/8 because his biggest weakness is his throwing ball playing game. He is tough as nails, a leader, small and runs through gaps but isn't passing the ball enough and because he is small he needs to pass higher to get the ball received. Likewise why I don't like him as Hooker, Hooker needs to get the ball out, that was Robbie's biggest problem, Ball Hog.

Now I love Reynolds. I think we should have signed Reynolds and bagged Graham at 250K (I had that pricepoint for him… Eastwood probably 100K or less).

Good player, lets see how Reynolds fits. Totally agreed though that Marshall and Brooks would be our best attacking pair.

I am so confused. Just me?

I suggest you guys either wait to see what Reynolds can offer the team in broken play or go back and watch a couple of games, from this year even; the dogs may of had poor attack but it certainly didn’t come as a result of a lack of attack from Reynolds end.
Reynolds flaw is he can’t pass a super long ball. Can throw a cut out but it will never be a torpedo. But stating he is incapable of moving the ball around in attack is just not correct.
See for yourselves. He sets up the bulldogs centres and backrowers with many a good sharp ball. He does this on the run. He just won’t come up with anything from a standing start.
But the last time we had a player do that in a season and create over 20 try assists he was labelled a failure in that position.
That was Benji in 2012 by the way.

Pretty sure that's no longer the case. He was part of the channel 7 commentary during the World Cup
