Benji link and a $2m payday help lure Kiwi Blair to Tigers

Well, that's tempted my mood. Nothing to be happy about what's happening on the field so may as well embrace what's happening off the field and Blair will fill the missing link to what should be a formidable back row next year with Ellis, Dwyer and Blair.

Whether he is worth $2m over 4 seasons can be argued, but I'm happy at the fact we've secured him for 4 seasons and not on a short term contract. Hopefully he may stay longer if he is playing well and enjoying playing at the club. With him and hopefully a couple more handy acquisitions next year I see ourselves doing much better than we are this year thus far.

Nobody has said $500K a season in this article. $2m over 4 years. Sounds backloaded factoring in re-distribution of TV rights. I think $2m over 4 for a bloke like Blair will be market average for a decent backrower come the rejigging.

Blair will provide some grunt in defense and he can do the tough hit-ups coming out if our red zone. But his biggest asset is his ability to off-load in attack- Benji loves 2nd phase and it has been missing of late. Blair can also gap-run and will score tries. A complete footballer!

Good signing. The Tigers need an edge to their forward pack and Blair is the type of player who can provide it. As far as the money is concerned, well he's looking after himself and hopefully the Tigers look after him.

I think his contract may be made up from outside companys that dont effect the salary cap, or the tigers eg. darren lockyers contract. I guess this could be one reason as to why it has taken soooooo long to announce! Dotting the i's and crossing the t's with ian scheburt.

So is today the day for the the worst kept secret signing?

I am awaiting the news of Adam Blair signs !

I couldn't be happier about this. My kiwi captain and co-captain brothers playing together for my beloved club, it couldn't get much sweeter than that! "Chur bro!"

It's been a horrid 3 weeks of crap performances and ugly player movement news and finally Tigers fans have something to smile about.

We have to keep Blair in the 2nd Row. In my opinion, it's where he plays his best football and is most effective. We want Blair creating havoc on the fringes and giving Benji another hole running option, where he is a real danger.
Still wondering if $2 million might be too much but I'm sure Adam Blair will prove to us that he's worth every cent. Bring on 2012…already....Go the Tigers on Saturday night!

people need to remember you only get 300k total per team for 3rd party payments.
we were told when lote signed that a good chunk of his contract was from 3rd party deals.
i'm sure benji has some as well.

every club would be trying to use all 300k of the allowance each year.
so i doubt there was much left if any that would go towards the blair contract.

**_People need_** to learn the rules before quoting them. 300K per team is for 3rd parties associated with the club. There is an unlimited amount of money available for anyone from 3rd parties not associated with the club. This isnt Soviet Russia.

If we are going through a rebuilding phase I think the money is just. Imagine if you were woods begonovich or groat being 18-20 and playing next to adam blair, he will lead this pack next year and help these young guys kids stand up and lift to a new level, its a jsut signing and much needed. If dwyer is fit next year and highno stays we will havea pretty tough pack…...Blair, keith, ellis, highno, woods, groat, dwyer, begonovich, BMM.....ITS YOUNG AND BIG!!! good start to the rebuilding phase !!!

1 Does anyone know if this info is on the mark ??
2 I thought the maximum one player could get in 3rd party deals was $150 k ??

Is this the tonic our 2011 season needed also ??

Not overly keen on Reddy , but didn't he come to grade as a fullback at Parra ??

If it is true about Reddy ,lets hope his signing is as good as the last fullback we got from Parramatta

I would have thought Reddy would play right wing as he used to be a very good finisher outwide and in my opinion he was a bit under-rated. brown could be given first shot at fullback next season

i still say we need to buy a good prop if blair is going to play 2nd row. im not sure why we need to spend $500,000 on a 2nd rower when we have ellis and dwyer 😕

Alien Makes no sense If Brown will get first shot at fullback next year why is it not happening now . Sheens has something else in mind I think

i think brown is playing wing this week because we have run out of wingers. utai, lote, daniela injured and latu has left the club

a club is not allowed to set up a 3rd party agreement to get a player to sign with them,or it is included under the 300k cap, even if they are not club sponsors.
look at smith and inglis for reference.
you cannot guarantee 3rd party deals.

benji makes his million because he generates his own sponsorship.

so what part of the rules do i need to learn?

this is from the inglis saga.

While much has been made of whether the NRL will allow the Rabbitohs to include only $190,000 of the contract into the cap for next season, the NRL claims the cap amount in relation to his total remuneration was not in question.

Rather, the issue at hand is whether the third-party deals had been organised by the club in order to get Inglis to Redfern.

According to salary cap rules posted on the NRL website regarding third-party payments:

"The basic guide is that if a player is receiving money from any person as a way of inducing him to play for the club, then that money will be included in the salary cap."

It is believed the Rabbitohs will be lodging four statutory declarations with the NRL indicating the validity of the third-party deals, which are valued at $100,000, $50,000 and two deals at $25,000.

According to the figures which have been reported, the $1.8 million mark would only be reached with the inclusion of the $600,000 in third-party deals.

I'm not well versed with third party rules but correct me if I'm wrong Bon;

I want to out of my own pocket throw $50K to Blair to top up his salary. This is fair and outside the club third party deal cap because I have negotiated directly with Blair?

On the other, WT approach me and ask me to throw $50K at Blair to guarantee his signature. This would be counted under the club third party cap because they have been the catalyst for the deal?

Your on it Bogan . Bit of a grey area though isn't it . As if an outside sponsor who has been approached by the club is going to admit it . Very hard to trace . This is my issue with the NRL Instead of making things black and white they create more and more grey areas .
