Benji Marshall involved in late-night incident

good on Benji for standing up to these people.
can't wait for other parties to be named.
then they can have the fame of shame forever.

My only problem and disappointment with the whole incident is why would he go to Maccas at 3.00am.

Always going to be a target for idiots at that time.

Surely there was food at home.

NRL STATEMENT ON BENJI MARSHALL

The National Rugby League has been made aware of an incident involving Wests Tigers player Benji Marshall.

The Wests Tigers have already undertaken to make a full report to the NRL.

The NRL will closely monitor the report and any police investigation while also conducting any additional inquiries the NRL deems necessary. NRL inquires have, where appropriate, in the past been assisted by former police officers acting in an investigative role.

“It is always important that the club is given the opportunity to examine the facts and report to the NRL before we determine whether there is a need for intervention on our part,” NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, said today.

“This will also no doubt depend on some of the issues being investigated by police.

“Clearly it is in everyone’s interests to determine the matter as soon as possible.”

My only dissapointment is that he is not able to go to Maccas whenever and wherever he likes without being subjected to this type of ridiculous behaviour, just because he happens to play in the NRL, doesn't give these morons the right to single him out and subject him to this type of abuse. Next thing we will have to have our players behind closed doors between 8.00pm and 7.00am daily.

Understand whee you're coming from but we are seriously messed up as a society if a bloke who plays football can't come and go as he pleases without harassment. In the old days if someone wanted to be hero he'd get a well deserved smack in the mouth and everyone would move on.

You would think that if he got the smack in the mouth that he obviously deserved he would be too embarrassed to go to the police, probably too drunk to know what he was doing…..

People have been throwing a lot of disguised swearing into this thread. This is just a friendly reminder that swearing is against forum rules and it's not too hard to make a constructive post without dropping unnecessary language.

I think given Benji's very, very good record we need to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm sure that if there was an altercation there must have been something said for him to react, if that's the case the taunter (with perhaps a clearer head) may come to his senses and not press charges.

The only other thing is (and I think a few people on here have forgotten this) no matter what was said the law takes a dim view on a physical response to a verbal attack.

That is something for the players to keep in mind especially in the current environment regarding NRL player off-field behaviour, previllance of surveillance cameras and mobile phone cameras.

Surely the NRL can't step in and impose a ban on Benji after letting Carney off basically scott free after his umpteenth infringement.

The most shocking part of this story is the fact Benji was having McDonalds this close to the start of the season.

he had maccas the night before the grand final

The whole team went to McDonalds after the Sharks trial in Gosford last year. They were well behaved, nobody bothered them, and they left quietly.

Fingers crossed the dust settle on this quickly. After reading all the posts in here as well as the official media reports, if it was that serious the Police would already have attended Benji's house and interviewed him. What has most likely happened is that some prawn head and a bunch of his halfwit mates have spotted Benji and decided to wind him up with the racial taunts, seeing that they significantly outnumber him 10 to 2 they wouldn't expect Benji to retaliate so it's probably more a case of 'hurt pride' which sent him running to the Police after Benji gave him a little 'love tap' in reply.

I reckon he'll be sweet after giving his version of events.

I agree, It wouldnt surprize me if someone said something about the recent earth quake. There are people out there that are just evil, in my opinion.

I disagree mate. I start looking pretty good after 3am. :righton:

How many times a night does someone get jobbed in the Gob at 3am…the only difference here is the coward went to the police...Tall Poppy Syndrome strikes again!...

Any man or woman should be able to leave a charity event and go and get a burger without being racially abused.

Where do we live?

The story wont go away anytime fast, I would have done the same thing had it been me mind you, though violence isn't the answer or the exuse for anything which is why he will be in trouble with this

Benji wears a big target….this has happened before in Coffs Harbour when he was much younger.......

He will be fine....Im confident in that...still does make you question

Unfortunately, this is a sad indictment of what our society has become. Drunk people, all full of dutch courage entering Mcdonalds at 3am and causing trouble. I have been on the receiving end of similar behavior at Mcdonalds. I will never go to fast food outlets after 8.00pm. Benji Marshall was doing nothing more than getting a bite to eat and no one including myself or Benji should be subjected to this abuse. Go Tigers and Go Benji

Gary!
