BENJI MARSHALL TO HOST FOOTY ROCKS DINNER
23/02/2011 4:32:20 PM

Wests Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall – the new face of the NRL – will host the inaugural Children’s Cancer Institute Australia’s (CCIA) Footy Rocks Dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel on Friday, March 4.

Footy Rocks features a night of sporting legends, food and music. Marshall is the Institute’s new ambassador and will help raise much needed funds for childhood cancer research.

Players from Wests Tigers, Sydney Roosters, Waratahs, and Sydney FC will attend the dinner.

“Footy Rocks is a wonderful opportunity for athletes from all codes of the football community to come together to help save the lives of kids with cancer,” Marshall said.

“I’m so excited and honoured to be an official ambassador for Children’s Cancer Institute Australia, having witnessed firsthand the horrible impact that childhood cancer has on Australian children and their families.”

Footy Rocks will be a black tie evening of surprise performances, a delicious four-course dinner and several hours of live music and dance.

A special auction will sell off once-in-a-lifetime items to the highest bidder, including one-on-one training sessions with some of Australia’s most elite athletes.

Footy Rocks aims to raise in excess of $250,000 for medical research at CCIA to help save the lives of kids with cancer and eliminate their suffering.

“This new funding will go directly towards the drug discovery of new, targeted cancer therapeutics for young kids with cancer,” says Professor Michelle Haber AM, CCIA Executive Director.

The Institute’s new ACRF Drug Discovery Centre for Childhood Cancer Research completes one year's medical research in just days. It is the only one of its kind in Australia devoted to childhood cancer research.

Iconic Australian poultry brand Steggles is the night’s major sponsor. Steggles CEO John Camilleri says, “At Steggles we have an ongoing commitment to supporting children’s charities. Our partnership with CCIA commenced in 2002\. We have a high regard of their work with families and the wider community in improving the detection and treatment of children’s cancer. We feel both privileged and proud to be involved with their latest fundraiser, Footy Rocks.”
