Marshall's goal

Benji Marshall really wants to make sure he finishes his career at the Tigers. He has two years left on his deal but is looking for a three-season extension. Five more seasons will mean Marshall will cement his position as one of the Tigers' greats - an all-time great if he can deliver another competition to the club.

The comments about Farah in the paragraph above when clicking the link were more telling imo

This…

Here it is copy and pasted:

Mason on the money

He's one of the NRL's great characters and Willie Mason hit the nail on the head when the Wests Tigers were getting towelled up by the Knights on Monday night. He sledged the Tigers forwards when Robbie Farah was forced to take the ball and do a hit-up in the manner of a prop. ''Are you blokes kidding?'' were his words. Farah did it to embarrass his pack who were not doing the job. And don't think that won't weigh on Farah's mind when it comes time to do his new deal with the club. Farah wants to stay but more important than the money - which is said to be close to the mark - is the recruitment the club has in mind. The Tigers have not had much joy in that area in recent years - Gareth Ellis is a clear exception. Farah deserves a team that he wants to play with and one that will provide him and Benji Marshall with support for their obvious skills.

Not sure how I feel about this info to be honest

2005 was a lifetime ago , and I honestly believe the side will need a change in personnel and playing style if we are to reach those heights again

He is only writing what you write on these forums,it would be hypocrytical of you to state otherwise, you bag our recruitment and our forwards,so he is only strengthening your argument.

I would be telling Benji come back and we will talk turkey in 18months,their might be some new kids on the by than

Looks like Braith Anasta has been telling Benji what he went through during his last couple of years at the Roosters.

Nice to hear he's thinking about himself at this particular time

Priorities and all that

Always with the negatives. You didn't say the same about Farah's contract negotiations, did you?

Inks got a point Alex ,Robbies contract runs out this season ,Benji's is still a while away and Benji needs to earn his new contract , he's not the same player when he signed the last contract

If Benji can turn the clock back and play like 2010/2011 Benji give him what he wants

If not , we really have to look at our options ,this is still a business after all and as much as it would be nice for Benji to be a one club player it has to be earned

At this point in time Benji needs to focus on his game and his involvement in the team effort and show some of his form that many admired in the past. His bargaining chips aren't what they were but it would be great to see him reverse that with some put in performances. I know he needs support from our forwards but there is more to it than that, he needs to show that he;s doing the best he can regardless of others and I haven't seen that in him for a while unfortunately, hope he shows us the 'old' Benji this arvo for starters.

Won't be surprised if Benji has a big game this arvo at all

But want to see him play his best ,when we play the best sides in the NRL

Thats what a marquee player is and thats why they get paid the big bucks

Benji is just a famous player at the moment , not an outstanding player

Fantastic news to have one of the best players in the game looking to sign for life and anyone who disagrees knows very little about footy (which means lots of people on here are likely to disagree).

He was the worlds best player in 2011 and last year he played as good as he could given the rabble around him -if you have a shit year and still lead the comp in line break and try assists and are responsible for more of your teams tries then any other player for any other team then you are fantastic. How would cooper cronk look with a crap forward pack, no billy slater , Cameron smith missing for half the season and 9 different half partners and a coach who the team lost confidence in - he would look a lot worse then Benji did that's for sure.

Thats awfully glib.

If it was someone who was in vogue on the forum we would probably hear talk about loyalty and how much of a clubman they are.

Funny how people that bring up leading the comp in line breaks and try assists fails to mention he lead the NRL in another stat Most errors for a play maker

Maybe people who forget that stat maybe knows even less about the game

Turnovers lead the opposition having more ball ,thus putting more pressure on a already brittle defence

Last time I checked this game is about attack and defence and many good judges believe that defence wins premierships

And before someone says "Well thats the way Benji is " well unfortunately in this day and age Rugby League is about Completions rates ,great defence ,winning the ruck and great kicking games

Benji doesn't fit that mould and with our issues if we are going to be competitive we will need to make changes or Benji will

Perhaps because Farah's situation is a little different and a bigger priority atm than a player whose contracted for another 2 yrs, wouldn't you agree???
