Benji Marshall won't say sorry for Blues jersey

DEPARTING Wests Tigers star Benji Marshall has refused to apologise for appearing in an Auckland Blues jumper to announce his impending code switch - but insists the stunt was done at the request of the Super Rugby franchise.

The Blues on Saturday released a video of Marshall wearing the Blues jersey he will wear for the next two years, despite being under contract with the Tigers until the end of the season.

The incident attracted condemnation from fans and club officials - including coach Michael Potter.

Given a chance to say he regretted the video, Marshall instead laid the blame on his future employers.

``What's been done has been done,'' Marshall said.

``At the end of the day that's where my job's going to lie next year, they wanted to put that out and release that.

``That's over as far as I'm concerned.''

Pressed further on the anger the incident may have caused some Tigers fans, Marshall said: ``Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, if they feel that way they feel that way.

``I had to put out what I put out for the Blues sake, we're not in finals contention, so it was the time to do it.''

Potter went on Sydney radio on Monday admitting the video was in bad taste, but Potter denied he and the coach were at odds.

``He actually didn't rip me out, he called me last night to tell me it was quite the opposite,'' Marshall said of his relationship with Potter.

``The relationship between myself and the coach is great, we get along great, no dramas there.''

Just when you think he can't sink any lower. What a weak excuse of a man.

Meh.

Only a few more weeks of this embarrassing situation.

Trying to ignore it all at this point before it taints everything good he has done for WT over the years.

The real news in that article is that we are now such a lowly ranked commodity that even the Telecrap is sending out essentially a cadet to cover us rather then experienced journos

Smeg, his recent behaviour has gone a long way in destroying his legacy here, and i think this article is just about the final straw. He's pretty much slapping the fans in the face, it doesn't get worse than that. Showing no remorse, or no understanding of how it might have made people feel who have followed and supported him for the last 10 yrs is a disgrace. Its sickening.

"At the end of the day that's where my job's going to lie next year, they wanted to put that out and release that."

And all the videos he has put out for Wests Tigers??? What was it he said?

"It's my life. Make it part of yours"

And what would they have they done if he declined saying he felt it might be a bad look considering he's still playing for another team? renege on the contact? pffft

Why shouldn't he? I think people who've supported him for 10 yrs deserve a little better wouldn't you say? Thats the thanks they get? Supporters like you are just as bad

Bad for blades as well, clear Adidas emblem on his chest I think.. At the end of the day he is making it worse for 90% of the fan base.
I was a benji fan and would still be if he kept his mouth shut and now I cannot stand him wearing the orange and black.
Rant over

Gee athletes these days can lie so well. I wonder if they have training workshops to handle the media.

Says Potter had no issue with his stint
Says he doesn't read the papers or listen to criticism
Says he doesn't mind if he doesn't make 200 games (as if his ego will allow him to get dropped again and be stranded on anything less)

FFS I'm so tired of the rehearsed and carefully danced answers these players put out to the media, it's so damn predictable

I love this comment. I think some of the posters on here mind reading might be a little off the mark.

The contempt in his voice in the audio version is there for all to hear,
As I said the other day its disrespect for the club team-mates and fans….those supporting him prove love is blind (and deaf)
Yet the club maintains its dignified stance on it all, well done to Mayer Potter and benjie's ex-mates.

Play him at prop for his last 4 games and watch him get battered and bruised.

Love to watch JWH smash him a couple of times.

Might as well stick Ashyford as the other prop. It helped Blair get more involved.

Yeah after the year we've had I must admit I finally got excited to go see tigers v souffs in a couple weeks just to watch benji play one last time, now I'm trying really hard to remember him for all the great things he has done but he's not doing himself any favours at the moment

What's done is done. No matter what happens from here on in- he will be remembered as one of our first legends.

Good luck to him wherever he goes. He has left memories and no legacy. Don't think anyone is a winner except maybe the Blues in this case coz i personally think benji will do good.
