Yeh cause Jonathan thurston uses that excuse when he has performed year in year out in great and horrible sides.

Benji isn't a five eight or halfback. He should be playing centre or fullback. He started his career in the centres and I'm positive he should finish it there.

I dont know why you are comparing the great JT to Marshal for…JT is by nature a scheming controlling halfback who dictates play through his superior kicking game and knowing when to run and when not to. Benji is the polar opposite. Benji requires someone like JT to do ALL of that stuff so that he can inject himself when the half allows him. He needs a halfback to say 'right the platform is layed, get us some points'. That is all he has ever been good for.

As I said before, when Prince did the hard work for him, Benji was unstoppable. When Lui managed to do most of it, again Benji became a weapon. He can not do this stuff himself as it is not in him. It is as clear as day and has been since 2007.

He IS NOT a halfback
He IS NOT a fullback
He IS NOT a center
He IS NOT a traditional 5/8 either

His only use to us is as an attacking weapon. So either buy him a bloody experienced halfback or let him go.

eloquent… rep points tomorrow...

I could never have said it half as well but its nailed right there. Benji needs to be metered instead of our go to man... either he needs self control or someone to do it for him.

I would love to play poker against him, would go home with the best prt of his salary....

He is not a halfback yet everyone thinks they can make him one. He is a ball running 5/8 who needs a controlling half inside him. He had one in 05 and killed the comp. He had one in 10 and 11 and played well winning the golden boot and the world cup. When he doesn't have one he struggles yet his coaches do stuff all about it.

And when we do stick a half back inside him , him and Farah do everything in their powers to destroy them

Forget the excuses , he is ready to be served

I dont agree. So you are trying to say that the captain and vice captain are sabotaging the team? To what end exactly? How about they dont trust any half because Sheens and now Potter are the ones who keep disrupting the side with their jittery, knee jerk selections for this vital role? They learned to play with Lui did they not and by the end of 2011 he was controlling the play more then either of them were.

Its not up to them to trust any player…its their job to play their best for the team week in week out and that doesnt happen....with our team if they shut down farah and put a little pressure on marshall we have nothing and its benji that falls to bits...its not just this year guys

BTW it is no coincidence that when we had a proper half, Marshal won the golden boot, RLIF 5/8 of the year and had a big hand in us playing finals footy. Since we lost said halfback his career has nose dived due to Sheens constantly using him incorrectly or partnering him with numerous different partners. Potter is no smarter and is repeating the same mistakes.

ego…. I think we have more of an ego issue than we ever had when Lui was around. We really need for Braith or Sirro to prove that Robbie and Benji need assistance directing.

Rough to blame Potter for our current situation though, 2 dominant egos will need something alot more assertive than Miller. Potter didnt sign a soul for this season.

Anyone who wants him resigned for 5 years on the reported figures is an absolute imbecile.

Injury or not, he has played like absolute garbage this season.

What about our first set. Dogs kick out on full. We get into the 20 on the third tackle and he TRIES ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE STUPID [This word has been automatically removed]ING GRUBBERS and gives the ball straight back to them. WHY!?

How many times has he done this? Why not try and get a repeat set and build some pressure? Nope, it's always going for the Hail Mary play. He never learns. Still makes the same mistakes every single goddamn week. It's pathetic.

hybrid I agree and dont forget the passes to nobody…every fundamental mistake you can make he does it better then anyone else in the comp...

mate, you have made my argument for me when you say marshall is nothing like thurston. what you need these days are controlling players in BOTH halves positons. not just one.

the 'old' five eight is a role that would have suited marshall, but the game has changed, he doesnt have enough space to 'make' anything happen. if the interchange was 6, maybe he could make it happen.. but thats not the way it is… atleast on the edges (as a centre) he would constantly be in 2 on 2 and 1 on 1 situations... look a hodges tear up - benji is that same sort of player.

you say that marshall was great when lui was on fire. i disagree. lui was the one on fire. lui alone. marshall made erorrs as a #6 in that game against the dragons (ones that a five eight as good as you are talking him up to be should not make) that effectively put us in a position to lose the game. marshall is a myth of a five eight and has been for a while now..

he isnt a five eight
he isnt a half

And he does it consistently. Week after week, like clockwork.

What he needs is Potter to pull out the tape and say "pull this shit again and you'll be playing NSW Cup next week". It's that simple. And while he's at it, Marshall should also be banned from ever kicking the ball, whether its in general play or into touch from a penalty.

For too long he has been able to get away with murder and nobody has pulled him up on it.

He has not improved as a player in the last five years. For all the talent he has, his career is looking like a huge waste.

Stop living in the past far out….
Marshall WAS dynamite and he has done plenty in the years more than a 05 flick pass BUT he is pathetic now and has had plenty of time to sought himself out.

What about the cute little no look inside ball to Teddy who had Kasino standing about 2 feet in front of him

People still making excuses for him.
Wake up

$800k a year for what he dished up tonight…..what a joke we are

hybrid maybe the coach doesn't want to get sacked for dropping him or getting him offside.

sick of the excuses that some make for him.

ink exactly look at other players on his money and see what they are doing for their club week in week out

but disappointed in Tiger to be honest… thought he would be all over this already.

Haha, I give up! I've said all I have to say on him I've had an absolute guttfull of him to the point I don't even care anymore. I do fell sorry for the blokes busting themselves though. When your side is down on troops you look to your experienced so called 'superstar' players to stand up, did he even play? He has never stood up once when we need him to never ever! he's a myth.

We need a huge shake up if we're going to compete in the future. We have the junior talent much like Penrith. Maybe we need to privatise the club to settle debt and get rid of the stupid boardroom crap because it seems like the old "messy house, messy life" adage is applying to us.

Hard to disagree with anything on here.
I am in the same boat as everyone else. Marshall does not deserve a contract upgrade and if he does then I fear what could happen to this club over the next few years.
I do agree that recruitment for a natural halfback has always been lacking since Prince left and since then Sheens was trying to play stop gap halfbacks like Morris into that role.
There is not much out there on the market for halfbacks so I would try and buy Mick Dobson from Hull KR and let Brooks develop at his own pace. The pressure that we are all placing on this kid is huge.
Just remember that we could potentially have a great half back pairing for many years to come in Brooks and Moses.

lol wait for us to sign a halfback? there are none out there.. we can't always hope for benji to take a backseat and wait for a halfback to come along.

he has lost speed, his defense is getting worse, his accelaration is zilch and his boneheaded selfish amateur show off im the king of the world plays are bloody pathetic.

hasnt played a good game against a top team for a while now.. turning him into a halfback is the only option.. he needs to be slapped in the face so hard… arrogant is the only word to describe this idiot.

he had the world at his feet..

Anybody reckon he kicks the ball horizontally on penalty kicks? This has been bugging me for some time. It seems like whenever we get a penalty, Marshall can only kick it 10> metres.

Haha yes I love this one. The touch judge has to sprint 20 metres backwards everytime we get a penalty.

Add it to the collection which includes:

- Useless grubber on 2nd or 3rd tackle that hands possession straight back to the opposition
- Hospital pass on inside lining up fullback to get absolutely belted
- Throwing cut out pass into row Z
- Throwing a no look pass that ends up on the ground or intercepted
- Kicking straight down fullback/wingers throat
- Refusing to run the ball
- Missing 10 tackles per game
- Putting up bomb that travels backwards

I was the biggest fan around years back because I play a similar style in touch football. But the more I watch him, the more I realize he will always be a touch player, his instincts are instilled and won't change.

Lets face it, the Tigers won't want to let him go because of his marketing drive, pure and simple. He's a big name, one club player, good with the kids, highlights reel that stopped in 2011 and he's a senior player. Would the club let him go because he's playing bad? Or would they keep him and sell 50% more tickets to weekend footy fans who are blind to all this?

It will probably take another 3-4 years of this madness for the Tigers to finally have enough but as of now, his marketing potential is too irresistible.
