Benji vs Ciraldo

Nah what it tells me is that assistants at the riff under Cleary have a more important role than other assistant coaches . Most of the ones under Bellamy who became head coaches have been duds whereas you have two former riff assistants in top 4
Brad Arthur and Madge have been pretty good.

Please, look at ciraldos squad v Benji squad. Just look at our bench this week. You are only as good as the people around you.

Could ciraldo have improved the WT results this year and would Benji have done any worse than ciraldo. Imo the answer is no.

Ciraldo was offered the job at tigers and opted to take the easier path with the dogs. Is he a better coach who knows but imo he made a better career decision by taking the dogs job because it was an easier path to finals.

Time will tell if either are much chop.

Benji is building the squad nicely and in my opinion should be considered for coach of the year taking a 3 time wooden spoon team to whisker of the finals. Well we know how ciraldo gets players.

Cmon ..he has taken a team that won 6 games to a team that won 9 games … I mean …obviosuly im not complaining about it ..but coach of the year ?

Ciraldo doesn’t get out coached by Payten twice a year.

Benji is a work in progress. There are some good things in how his players respect him, but tactically he needs work.

I also think he allows the team to enjoy the wins too much and the players don’t maintain any intensity beyond about 2 weeks.

Ciraldo was out coached by Benji though...

Guessing you didn't watch the first game vs the cows? Benji wasn't out coached at all..

We were "out refereed" with 2x sin bins in the same half.. Ive seen teams give 3 consecutive penalties this year and no sin bin (Luai). Ive also seen alot worse than the interference on Bateman and no sin bin.. we were royally fkd over... The moment we had our full team back on the park we won the game like 28-6 or something..

Game 2, we were in total control before we had to reshuffle our defence and play guys in positions they've never played before.. I'd say it's more unlucky than great coaching from payten..

Disagree.

If we weren’t asleep for the first 10 minutes, what happened at the end wouldn’t have mattered. Payten correctly targeted our right edge from the start.

We’ve been slow starters most of the year and it’s costly.

Doesn't take a genius coach to target our right-side defence. I wouldn't be using that as an example of Benji being out coached.

The cowboys started well, can't disagree with that... But I don't buy your theory that they were targeting our right edge all game

Their first 16 points
- 2x tries down our LEFT edge
- 1x try down our right edge.

We lost.. Dearden and Drinkwater saw the opportunity once we shuffled our defence around.. putting the blame on Benji and saying he was out coached by Payten is just an excuse to stick it to Benji.. it was simply a series of unfortunate incidents (injuries and the team thinking they wrapped up the game)..

If Dearden and Drinkwater were injured and taken off the field, and the tigers scored, are you painting Benji as a genius for out smarting Payten? Ofcourse not.

But that didn’t happen did it?

I don’t buy the excuses. We were asleep at the start and 12 in front with 15 minutes to go.

Obviously it didn't happen and is a scenario created to help understand your logic..

So id appreciate if you answer the question to help me understand your line of thinking.

If Dearden and Drinkwater went down and the tigers put on 3 tries would you be here singing Benji's praises for out coaching Payten?

Ive made no excuses.. we lost. This one's on the plauers... It just seems like you are making an excuse to dig the boot into Benji when the capitulation had nothing to do with him... This one's on the players..

Edit -- you also said Benji was out coachied in both games, but fail to acknowledge the extenuating circumstance with two players in the bin for incidents that have happened since and resulted in no sin bin .. again, it has nothing to do with Benji's coaching ability

I actually think with all the turbulence throughout the year, new combos, new players, key player leaving, players getting called out for bullying, coach getting called out by said player for being incompetent, zero depth in key positions where we have had our injuries FB/Centre/2RF. I believe the team has not done too badly this year. We have picked up a few good scalps Dogs, sharks, rorters, we have come damn close in other games, Panthers, raiders, Wahs. Other than maybe the Storm game we have had good commitment and effort, so I give Benji a pass mark. Vast improvement on the capitulation and lack of effort we have seen over the last 4 years. Next Year we need to crack the 8 or miss it by a bees dick. In 27 I expect we are contenders for the premiership.

Bulldogs have a lot of money and Ciraldo has come from a team with money too. He is used to having very good S&C, good assistant coaches and good support staff around him.

Benji has come from nothing and he is coaching at a place with nothing.

Ciraldo will get success, I got no doubt about that. Would he have had as much success with us as Benji this year? Who knows?
