BENJI

The FG was magic and crucial but some other stuff was like Noooooooooo Benji

:sign: It may not have been a brilliant game but they competed for the full 80mins that what counts, the storm were just as good almost. Our defence is great and we are playing with patience n guts. "I wonder when or if the storm has lost back to back games to the some opposition ever" Anyone know? A champion Coach/team!

I wonder what Cleary is thinking

Surely he told Benji to rein it in after last weeks final 20 minutes

Why can't Benji just let a bad play /decision die a bad decision , take the tackle ….. instead of throwing passes that make it worse ??

2005 vs cowboys according to fox

Edit - misread your question, cowboys were the last to down them twice in one year.

Manly in 2015.
Lost twice to them in regular season.

I think Benji panicked a bit today and went for the big play way too often instead of settling things down and controlling the play.

Kicking the field goal redeems him somewhat but I hope Ivan has a quiet word with him about his performance the last couple of games

I agree with you. While being an unabashed fan of Benji, especially in his younger game breaking days, I feel that his performances this season have been a little over hyped. He started well in the first two rounds against the Roosters and Storm by controlling the temp of the game and not overplaying his hand. However, in the last two games he has started to run across the field, looking for the miracle play, rather than playing direct. Brooks has clearly taken over as the on field general.

Remember he is almost certainly playing with a serious ankle injury. His biggest contribution is to the development of Brooks. Well done Benji.

Yep. Great point.

I agree. He started to hobble in the second half and I thought he might come off injured. During the team song after the Parra game he had an ice pack on his ankle. I reckon he has been carrying that injury.

Serves me right for listening to news corp

Brooks and Benji are still working together well. Benji didn't have a good game in attack. He made some important tackles and Brooks had a blinder.

Didn't have a great game, but will start in the 6 next week. Shows the kind of player he is that he doesn't have a great game but can still get the win despite his flaws.

Reynolds straight back in for mine.

On the bench for Reynolds. Benji is a big reason why Brooks is going well at the moment. Reynolds eventually will be our 6 though.

x2, Brooks is playing out of his skin with Benji as a partner in the halves

There was a passage of play I think it was on the last tackle and Benji made an effort on effort on effort and closed down the play.
Reynolds can come back through Reggie's, Benji goes nowhere!!

When you kick the winning field goal and go inches from scoring the winning try and it's not your best game then I'll take that any day.

The thing with "the new Benji" is the distance between his worst game and his best is a lot smaller than it used to be.

I would be happy to see Benji go to the bench for next week - as much to see how Reynolds and Brooks combine as to give Benji a rest from the pressures of starting week in week out.
I don't see this as demotion as much as a chance to look at options under match play and to let Benji freshen up.
Either way, it is a great position for Ivan to be in.

Agreed. We could do with Reynold's energy. I'd like to see us straighten the attack next week.

Benji has been herculean. Our pack looks worn down with too many tough games. The draw will hurt us later in the season. We need a few games where we can win in cruise control. Reynolds and ET coming back will be huge for us.
