Besieged WT's cut big $ deal to move home games to ANZ

In the the near future, Leichhardt Oval will be like the SCG where we play one historic game there.

Campbelltown Stadium has a big future ahead as Grant Mayer has marked it down in his plans as the Stadium lays within a major growth region. I could not be surprised if we see:

6 ANZ Stadium
3 Campbelltown Stadium
1 Leichhardt Oval

That makes some sense, I don't think it would be wise to totally ditch Campbeltown as Anz is closer to the Liechhardt and there is more future to expand out west ,but how do you account for the other two home games?

Why does leichardt miss out in a game. Oh we'll that means my membership of 8 people will be cut down to only 3 games a year as I can't stand Anz

I'm sure in the future we could join other NRL clubs and take home games on the road to places like Mackay or Perth or even Tasmina. If not I would think another game each for Campbelltown and ANZ.

Leichhardt Oval is full of history but without upgrades we have limited games left there since most facilities aren't fixed and have to be rented which is more money

I don't think it would be of any benefit to have any more home grounds TBH I would say another at Leichhardt and another Anz, leave the other clubs to spread the NRL gospel that only currently have one home ground.

If our team over the next few years becomes a real force in the NRL we will need ANZ to host the block buster games, and I see that happening. As for the ten year deal,I would imagine their are all sorts of bonus clauses if we generate large crowds.

The new coaches,as long as Potter had some say in it and they were not forced on him. They both bring qualities to the table .Let's hope Matty Head gets the u20s gig.

The best thing in the article was the injection of a few independent board members, because we have to fix the boardroom up or this club is doomed

I like the appointments of the assistants. Kidwell will be the hard nut that blasts the players when they're slacking off. Payten will be the one players confide in, and will be able to help with player morale.

**As for homebush… I'm surprised we've gone for a 10 year deal. Seems like too long to me. Our games could be worth more than we think in 10 years time so I hope we're not selling ourselves short.** I'm also surprised we've only gone for 4 games… Does this mean we'll still be playing at campbelltown/leichhardt for another decade?

As for the 12th game... I could see them taking the broncos game to suncorp. We'd be giving up a home game but a 30000+ crowd would be guaranteed. Plus it'd give us a chance to sell Brisbane based memberships

Excellent point …. I too have a big question mark as to why Mayer has locked us in for ten years. A lot can change in that time. Or could it be the day comes we play out of ANZ permanently ?

What could change that would see this deal be not beneficial?

For those people on twitter, has Mayer made any comments about the article?

One quality that I like about GM is that he is quick to confirm/squash rumours

Yes Mayer has refuted the LO/CT game allocation, says the media got it wrong. He has advised to wait until we release the draw, so he isn't giving much away.

Cheers LaT, I can't see any replies when I click on that link from my phone but I will have a captain cook later.

Was wondering if he also confirmed the 10yr deal at ANZ but by the sounds of it, we won't have any confirmation until the draw is released

**Lets not forget this may all well be totally off base….this is from james Hooper** who I just heard on the roast say that Watti holmwood the origin streaker had form for doing the same thing ''at campbellton stadium '' some years ago

i'd for once like a CEO or a coach or a player to ask the "journalists" where they're getting their information from.

farah did that on the matty johns show but somewhat sounded more like a sook in that one.

To answer that question you need to ask who are paying Wests Tigers this agreed sponsorship money over the 10 year period. My understanding is it its the Stadium Australia Trust.
The next question to ask is what risk is assocIated with binding ourselves to Stadium Australia Trust for 10 years ? I can think of a few hypotheticals that could go wrong …. Not least if the Trust is badly managed and got into financial difficulty (which actually happened a few years ago). Another could be an unforeseen GFC style event which resulted in reduced corporate box rentals and sponsorships which again leads to Cashflow imbalances. Another could be government intervention forcing different Taxation arrangements. I am sure if I thought long enough I could come up with more risks to the arrangement. Sports Stadium Trusts are not risk free AAA rated govt backed institutions. The issue I have is if something does go wrong in the first two or three years, your stuck for the next seven or eight. I hope your mate has thought this through properly.

Knuckles how would financial difficulties for the trust effect us? If they cant pay, surely you're not suggesting we wouldnt be entitled to terminate the contract?

None of your suggestions are anything but fanciful. Taxations arrangements???

Bahahaha

Yeah, and a bus could wipe me off the road tomorrow so i might stay home just to be on the safe side. I take all my money out of the bank too and stuff it in my mattress just in case another GFC hits

Lol

You asked me what could change that would see this deal not be beneficial

I think I've answered the question ….... Do you have another question ?

10 years seems an extraordinary length of time to lock into anything.
If you were renting for say $450 per week and your landlord said Ink I'll offer you a 10 year deal for $440 plus CPI per week but you are locked in to paying for 10 years would you take it ?
Sure looks good in the short term but what if something comes up and you want to exit ?
You can't because you are stuck.

What Mayers done is he has locked us into something that has no flexibility to manoeuvre if ever the need arises. I'm not sure that's good business sense.

If the government changes the rules on taxing Trusts of course it's a risk. Ink asked me what could go wrong by locking in for an extraordinary length of time. I answered with possible hypotheticals. I think what is fanciful is locking in for ten years thinking nothing can go wrong and risk doesn't exist. If you run a business with that mindset you are headed for disaster.

The biggest risk in being locked in for 10 years is that the value of our games could up and yet we would still only be receiving the $600k a season that we got ourselves locked into. Its like the previous TV deal the NRL had… Imagine if that deal was for 10 years instead of 5\. The nrl would only be receiving half of what they are receiving now thanks to the new deal

Absolutely ….......... there's a myriad of things that could happen.

You'd think this club would learn from locking in long term deals .......... arent they about to go to court with Sheens over locking him into a three year contract 😕
