"Best" team selections are useless

I agree with some points of the original post - particularly about needed a meatier pack for some opposition. Another thing I think is important is to use the interchange according to how the game is going. A coach can't go into a game with a set interchange plan and stick to it regardless of what's happening on the field. The plan should change with the conditions of the game and players.

It does…last week was a perfect example....Lui, Ellis injured....changes where made that normally wouldn't have...

Lol...Innk we won and you remember the stuff up....

Geo - of course injury is going to alter the plan, but fatigue and other factors need to assessed as the game goes on also.

There have been plenty of times players weren't interchanged when they needed to be. There was a topic on this earlier in the year.

interesting topic, but i have to disagree.

apart from logical decisions like forwards on the bench in the heat, i dont agree with much of the original idea.
no professional rugby league player should be worse away from home, at night, in rain…. if they are then what a waste of precious salary cap money they would be.

admittedly, greatly improved now, this is a huge reason i knocked marshall for so long; if you are a rugby league player part of your job is tackling. you cant just play offense or defence like in the nfl - where despite the large rosters, i dont think any teams use anyone other than the best player in each position each week apart from maybe saving players before the playoffs. college teams often use more than 1 quarterback, but this is rare in the nfl.

I think the original post is absolute nonsense.
Teams play well when their 17 players are confident and comfortable with each other, when they trust and know the person inside them and outsides style of play. The longer the squad stays together and the more games they win or play well in, the more the confidence in each other grows and it shouldn't matter who you play or how THEY play it 's all about how YOU play.
Trying to chop and change players according to who or how your opposition plays makes no sense and just disrupts the way you play.

Agree that its a bit skewiff, but FHG at least made an effort.

I respect that.

Jeez, I know everyone is entitled to an opinion and should be free to express it, but by christ I'm starting to see some ordinary threads.

Your top 17 are the guys who should be able to steer the team to the finals and be there on GF day. Do you think the Storm wouldn't play GI, Billy or Cam Smith in the GF cause they had an upset tummy from a one hour flight?

"Nah I can't play this weekend, its a night game… Clowns will eat me..." Jesus...
