The way the NRL police these incidents with high profile players is totally inconsistent and left me with absolutely no faith that they can routinely reach a fair judgement on each case with some sort of consistency.

Snake Stewart was stood down for four weeks on suspicion for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman, before being found not guilty. The NRL then had to cover their arses and say it was for being pissed at the season launch function. Rob Lui bashed his missus twice and plead guilty the second time and was rightfully banned for a year (should have been permanent IMO,) Kirisome Auva'a belts his missus in Jan 2014, pleads guilty and Souths let him play in the GF. Todd Carney pisses in his mouth and gets run out of town, Pearce makes an unwanted advance on a woman off his face (not the first time,) gets 8 weeks and a five figure fine. Joel Monaghan didn't even get kicked out of the country, he left of his own volition.

No consistency whatsoever. If any of these guys were reserve graders or fringe first graders, they'd all be looking at the end of their careers.

What on Earth does that have to do with anything?

Some cultures have a greater preponderance for certain activities frowned upon in modern Oz.

But we are all living in modern Oz and supposed to abide by its laws.

I understand that people are up in arms for what looks a fairly soft penalty, but as others have noted, there has been little to no penalty for other players who were guilty (i.e. not vindicated in court like SKD) of worse crimes.

I think 8 weeks for the Roosters at this time is actually quite bad. If they do not start well and the junior halves struggle, it's a significant part of the season gone without Pearce having any match fitness.
