Bitcoin and Crypto

I understand your frustration when you are convinced of something and believe it would help so many people. However, one thing I have learned in my many years, is that the only thing you can do is inform and encourage and leave them to it. They will either look at it or not. That's all.
My son is right into crypto, but my daughter just doesn't want to know about it. That's ok. Its everyone's own personal journey.
Anyway, nice chatting with you. Keep up the good work!

Yeah mate it's definitely a bit frustrating especially with friends and family, I don't want to push it down their necks because I'd hate to have it pushed down mine but I do try to at least plant the seed and hopefully they'll be interested enough to understand just what we're dealing with.

Most people don't understand what Bitcoin actually is and I totally understand why, the depth and breadth of it is pretty mind blowing really.

Some think it's "internet money"
It's not "internet money" it's
"The internet of money"

It's programmable money

It's durable

Portable

Fungible

Scarce/limited

Divisible

Recognisable

The purest form of "hard money" mankind has ever seen

It's Unconfiscatable

Uncensorable

Unseizable

Uninflatable

Trustless

Permissionless

Transparent

Borderless

Verifiable

Cost effective

It's peer to peer - Requires no third party or intermediary

Can't be counterfitted

Can't be double spent

Predictable - As in we know how many will enter the supply in total and at what rate they'll enter.

Not controlled by anybody, it's independent from control by governments, banks and corporations

Decentralized, has no single point of failure

Incentivises fairness, provides no incentive to cheat or be a "bad actor" through it's consensus mechanism.

Secure, the most secure network in the world

Sovereign - The first asset class where owners have full control over what is rightfully theirs.

It Unbankes the banked
And it banks the unbanked
It makes the individual their own bank

Can be transfered from machine to machine autonomously

I think this is enough
I could go on and on and on
and get into way more depth and detail but you really have to dig into it yourself to find that level of understanding.
The amount of possibilities these things alone can provide is only limited by our imagination.

Do you hold any Crypto Willow?

I lost a bit of crypto 12 months ago when my pc was replaced and I lost my password for my wallet. I will kick myself if it goes up much more.

Bummer, that's why you should keep your keys offline and on something physical that can't be destroyed.

I can almost guarantee it will go up much much more by the amount of billion dollar hedge funds and the biggest corporations in the world looking to add it to their balance sheets.
We are seeing the beginning of "corporate game theory" playing out.
The big knobs are looking for a place to park their wealth to protect it against inflation, and they've found it, it took them a while but they're here now, they're not going to sit around and watch their wealth melt like an icecube, they only have to allocate 1 or 2% and the price of Bitcoin goes into the hundreds of thousands per coin.
Apple and Microsoft are yet to join the party, they're next

It wasn't a huge amount, otherwise I would have gone to more effort. I had it spread between bitcoin, bitcoin cash, litecoin, ethereum, dash, and golem. I thought Golem was a great idea, a sort of Air BnB of computing power. And I liked dash for its privacy.

Do you have your phrase that was supplied when you set it up?

Yeah sorry that's what I meant, not the password as such - the auto-generated phrase. I think it was about 20 words? I printed it out and wrote in big letters at the top DO NOT THROW OUT, but, of course, no idea what I did with it. So on my new PC I can't re-establish my old wallet.

Like I said it wasn't a huge amount, so not the end of the world, but still annoying.

I understand but what is a small amount now could end up being a significant amount in the future.
Back in 2014 I sent what equated to maybe $80 in Bitcoin back then to Bitshares in exchange for bts, at the time you could buy a whole Bitcoin for $650, I don't even want to do the math to find out how much it would be today ?

I rode the privacy coin Verge back in the day from under 1c to over 23 cents, Dash also had a massive run up back then.
Yeah Golem was a pretty ambitious project, haven't really kept up with what's happening there, Elastos was another one.

That breakout over the US20k mark looks like it has set the wheels in motion for a pretty solid run.

Certainly has, I'm expecting a pullback to the 20 week MA at some point and expecting buyers to step in hard there.
Now the all time high has been breached pretty convincingly things can get wild

Bitcoin isn't the one to gamble your savings on. They'll only produce a finite number and then that's it. You needed to get onto it 5 years ago.

Let's see how well this post has aged.
On the 27th of April the price of Bitcoin in AUD was roughly $12k

I wonder what it is today?

Let's see, well well well, looks like that number says $36,800.

I'm glad I didn't "gamble my savings" on something that has
"a finite number"

How are your "savings" going?

Sorry Willow but that post will go down as the dumbest thing I've read on this forum.

It's still not too late for you Willow, don't let pride hold you back from making the best financial decision of your life.

Your grandchildren are going to say to you one day "Grandad why didn't you buy Bitcoin you moron?" 😂

As you know hangonaminute, I'm a bitcoin hodler. However, I just wonder what your motive is for this post. Yes, Bitcoin has done what both you and I expected. Indeed, we both are of the opinion that this is just the start of the 'bull run'. However, I don't see the point of calling out others who don't share this opinion.
You have 'put it out there' for all to see, regarding what you believe Bitcoin can provide for those wishing to partake in it. And that's fine. And in my opinion, that's where it should end.
Anyway, just my thoughts, mate.
