Roosters dump Leilua over attitude

THE Sydney Roosters have released centre Joseph ''BJ'' Leilua from the final two years of his contract.

Fairfax Media has been told the Roosters were not happy with Leilua's attitude and his application to the club for some time.

New coach Trent Robinson wants to stamp his authority on the club, and Fairfax Media understands that Leilua, who celebrated his 21st birthday last Wednesday, did not do enough to convince Robinson he was a keen member of the team.

There were concerns over his attitude towards training, as well as his off-field behaviour.

A Roosters insider said ''we're after professional athletes'' and believed it was best for the club and Leilua to part ways.

His exit comes two weeks after prop Mose Masoe was released from the final year of his Roosters contract. The 23-year-old Masoe has joined Penrith.

Leilua, a promising centre, spent a night in jail in May after an altercation with his ex-girlfriend.

He was later found not guilty of assault charges but was found guilty of using his mobile phone in an offensive way by sending naked pictures of her to her brother and her best friend.

Leilua paid $500 for a good behaviour bond and will have to return to court if the 12-month bond, which ends in October, is broken.

Leilua made his representative debut for City against Country Origin in Mudgee in April.

He was one of the best players on the field and was rewarded by being added to an extended NSW squad during this year's Origin series, although he did not play.

The St George junior made his debut for the Roosters in mid-2010 and played in the grand final loss against the Dragons in the same year.

Meanwhile, Parramatta's Reni Maitua was involved in a physical altercation with a fellow Eels player at Kings Cross at the weekend.

Maitua was knocked out by an under-20s player, Shaun Anderson, who was sacked by the club for his involvement in the altercation outside the Tunnel nightclub.

Parramatta officials investigated the incident but took no action against Maitua.

Anderson, 18, accused Parramatta of double standards.

''I thought he was going to deck me or something, so I stood back and hit him first, that's what happened,'' Anderson told Channel Nine.

''He was out cold on the ground.

''It's an NRL player's word against an under-20s player's word.

''Straight up, they're going to pick the NRL player, aren't they?''

He is a bad apple…needs 12 months out of the game to realise what a tool he is...he can then return after appreciating what the game gives him.

Simple yes for me it would be great to have him, with him and Lawrence we might have one of the best centre combo's in the game. It would be

1\. Tedesco
2\. Utai/Tuqiri
3\. Lawrence
4\. Leilua
5\. Koroibete

For me that would be awesome.

He has massive problems attitude wise. Let him get a dose of reality, that should wake him up

Sign him up as he looks like he could replace Taniela Tuiaki and be a cult hero inside Korobete.

Rugby League is a game that can offer redemption to those poor soles in need of a change in life.
Poor BJ is obviously a misunderstood person who probably needs to touch base with the 'common people'.
Perhaps a year or two of not being paid for underachieving might set this particular person on the right path, as talented as this individual is someone who sends explicit photos of his eX to her brother is a person I don't want here.

Sydney Roosters NRL player Joseph "BJ" Leilua has been given a one-year good behaviour bond for sending a naked photo of his ex-girlfriend to her brother and her best friend.

Earlier on Wednesday, Leilua was cleared of assaulting the woman at a South Sydney hotel.
>
However, Downing Centre Local Court magistrate Carolyn Barkell found Leilua guilty of using an iPhone in an offensive way.
>
Leilua had sent the naked photo of Cee-Jay Silbery to her brother and her best friend after he heard she was seeing another man.

Classy

This is the guy who got into an argument with his girlfriend and send naked photos of her to her brother and best friend.

A huge NO THANKS!

And have Parramatta sacked the wrong player, at the tail end of the article a U/20's player decked Reni Matua and got the bullet, perhaps this is the type of player we could sign instead!.

So off to one of the The bad boy clubs … Penrith, Cronulla, Titans , Berkeley Vale, Ourimbah, Nambucca Heads, the real NRL ...

id take him to be honest… its our turn to get a bargain buy from one of these "bad boys". i think getting sacked by a club is a big enough wake up call for him

Has a load of talent but hadn't shown it yet.

Really he is a 'sheens type player'

Seems ok in lots of positions but not great in any.

I'd be willing to give him a go, but wont be disappointed if we don't.

No thanks. Seems to have had plenty of chances after being put on notice. Lots of blokes have talent, most of the time it comes down to attitude. A bad attitude at training often rubs off on others and I don't want this bloke around our young up and comers. We've got a good opportunity with a new coach and new players to establish a good culture at our club and he doesn't seem the type of player to do it with.

I don't really have an opinion either way, although I'm happy to stick with Ayshford and Lawrence in the centres

but seriously he looks like the polynesian Jay Leno am I right?
