Blair for 5

Anyone else think it was a good ploy by Manly? By getting another night to shy away from the cameras, media goes nuts on how strict the nrl was on Blair and shows it is trying to stamp fighting out of the game. The stories now not on the back page and they could in all likelihood hand down a softer punishment to manly. (not suggesting this will happen, but hey it leaves a window open!)

Fair suspension IMO. The uppercut on Lussick deserved bit of a sit down, the second fight not so much.

Brett Stewart should have got by far the longest suspension, just because his weird kung fu punch missed doesn't make it okay, and seriously what kind of a defence is "but it was my brother", you're a professional sportsman, just grow up.

I don't know about that Bob, the media this morning are still talking about Stewart and they will no doubt cross to the judiciary during the different footy shows tonight to get updates and outcomes. I just hope the judiciary is firm and gives Stewart the rest of the season as well, if Manly manage to worm their way out of this then it will be an injustice to the game's reputation, those who follow the game and expect consistency and fairness, players already punished over the incident and put a massive dent in any perceptiion that the NRL is tough on this type of behaviour. All eyes will be on the judiciary tonight :imp:

If Blair gets 5weeks then Brett Stewart better get the same, seeing that he was the only one who actually made contact (from behind in an absolute dog act). He had no business coming in (high might I add) and attacking Blair the way he did. He could have really caused a serious injury, luckily he did to himself and not someone else. Now Manly are crying foul in the media. Stewart needs to be rubbed out of league, he has done nothing but disrespect the code and his arrogance toward Gallop is disgraceful.

My thoughts….

>About right maybe a bit harsh on Blair considering he was only defending himself in 2nd fight, although you could argue he played a part in instigating it by not continuing to run off
>May make him a better player/citizen in 2012
>G Stewart must get 3+ weeks as agressor
>B Stewart and other manly players who ran in were treated lightly
>I don't think Manly planned the adjournment. They would want to get this over asap.
>Thought Manly should have got a bigger fine ($75,000+ vs $25,000 for Melb) as they were largely at fault
>Gallop needs to send a firmer message to Manly that they need to stop playing the victim and inciting as us vs them mentality

Blair can now start packing his boxes and getting the removalists organised.

It's outrageous glen's mong little brother hasn't copped more punishment. So now there is one rule for brothers?

So sick of the manly 'woe are us' routine. There is always an excuse or a dig at someone else when the poo hits the fan. Cop it on the chin for once

Thought I'd add a bit of perspective to this game. I was at the game and as a wests supporter I loved it. 1 and 2 going at each other for 80minutes. I thought it set us up nicely for the finals. On the fights. The 1st one was pretty much what you see in most games - a non event, that is accept for Blairs uppercuts on a bloke being held by 3 to 4 storm players, he deserved a rest for that.

Stewart was wrongly binned, he didn't throw a punch just stopped blair from throwing but he obviously wanted to continue it for some stupid reason and blair stupidly obliged, at the end of the day not a good look but everyone loved it. Early shower for the two enough said. In relation to the melee that followed. I believe the media needs to give it's self an uppercut for how they have reported it. News limited at work? who knows. From where I was sitting I had a good view of the field. When Stewart and Blair start throwing them, every player on the field started running in. Manly were closer and obviously there first, Lussick was the only one to throw punches, payback for the ones Blair got him with but no excuse and deserved his suspension. The other players ran in to stop it, as did the players off the bench. No one should have been suspended. Brett Stewart probably deserved a week for his stupid attepmt to stop Blair. But he did not throw a punch. If the teams were running the opposite way, storm players would have been there first and possible the manly bench players. My question is if that was teh case would the media and in particular news limited take the same angle in reporting the incident.

Anyway I think the results are good for us in our finals run.

I agree Manly tiger…I watched it again yesterday and cant for the life of me understand why G Stewart was binned in the first place. Blair dog punched Lussick and got him good. Fair enough he gets binned. Stewart did nothing but grab Blair in the original stoush.

Blair and Stewart have a go on their way off the field, landing zero punches on each other, and cop 3 weeks?

Who are the retards on the judiciary? The penalties should have been Blair 1 week for the first fight, 1 week for the second, G.Stewart, B. Stewart and Lussick 1 week each for the second.

Total over reaction by the media and NRL.

While I dont wanna mention conspiracy theories (aka Big Mal), but I feel it was pretty obvious the panel where under instructions!

A player on the field is going to get king hit on the field one day & some serious damage is going to be done on a player, Dont say it wont happen as one day it will & where do we go to if some one ends up with brain damage or worse. And Lussick saying the best day of my life, what a goose.

Read that article again, at no stage does he refer to the fight as the best day of his life, the head line and the way the reporter structured his answers to questions which you don't get to see give that perception. THat interview was done straight after the game before all the media hype surrounding the brawl. This is a young bloke who has just had the best game of his short career in which he has played a large role in knocking over the premiership favourites and he didn't let them stand over him, how pumped would you be. Classical example of taking things out of context.

Good deal for us but extremely harsh penalty for him.

So hypocritical of the NRL to hand down that judgement when it routinely uses images like that to promote SOO, rivalry rounds and test matches.

Could not agree more. Five weeks for 10 seconds of adrenalin rush against the protected species Manly. Feel very sorry for Blair, but he will win a premiership ring next year for sure.

Sorry Manly Tiger i didnt mean to upset you but the way lussick carried on was a joke & what was said didnt sound real great & i realise he is only young & i must admit he has a lot of potential but if he is involved in something like this again i hope he thinks before he puts his mouth into gear.

I'm with Tiger Watto - I love a good conspiracy theory. I quote from this morning's SMH (Page 30): "Critically, judiciary chairman Paul Conlon accepted the submission of Stewart's counsel…....." and then at the end of the article: "After the verdict was read, Conlon said to Stewart: "I just hope Manly gets to the grand final for you". I think that that is a biased comment. Conlon is the chairman of the Judiciary. He should be completely objective and that "grand final" comment is not. Did he say the same to Blair the day before? Justice should not only be done but should be seen to be done, and by making that comment Conlon puts himself firmly in the Manly camp. That would seem obvious to me. Gallop should overturn the verdicts, sack the committee, and start again. Manly's been getting away with murder since I began watching League in the mid fifties, and I'm sick of it. How's that for a rant?
