Blair ready for the cheers

ADAM Blair says he liked playing at Leichhardt Oval as a Melbourne Storm player in front of the hostile Wests Tigers faithful.
Imagine his delight knowing the boos will be aimed at his opposing team on Sunday for the Tigers’ season-opener against Cronulla Sharks.

‘‘Now I get the chance to soak up the cheering, not the booing and the crowd being against me,’’ he said.

The soft-talking, hard-hitting forward is the Tigers’ biggest signing for 2012.

He chose Wests to be able to play his part in their exciting style of play, but benefiting his country is a bonus.

‘‘We have New Zealand’s captain [Benji Marshall] and vice-captain [Blair] in the one team — that can only be a good thing for New Zealand footy,’’ he said.

‘‘Now I’m with Benji I can learn from him and train with him.’’

Blair joins a star-studded back row of international proportions.

He will be at the back of the scrum with England’s Gareth Ellis and Chris Heighington.

‘'Having internationals is a massive advantage,’’ he said.

‘‘But in saying that when games get tough at the back end of the year, we are the ones who have to step up.''

Having played 24 internationals for the Kiwis and 121 first grade games for Melbourne, Blair’s ready to lead, even if it’s for a new club.

‘‘I want to show a bit of leadership, not so much with talking, but with how I play,’’ he said. ‘‘My main aim is to be consistent.’’

Look at that. A high profile Wests Tigers player doing an interview with the local Western Suburbs paper exclusively. Where is the Balmain Bulletin's exclusive column?

I read that article and it was only in black and white!

Where was the orange???

Another kick in the pants from the back and white only newspaper.

Humphreys has to go.

Great little article.

It is great to see the spirit of co-operation that has been exhibited since the new Magpies board took over.

Amazing what happens when, rather than obstructionist fossils, there are folk who want the past recognised and revered but want to work together for a brighter future than either JV partners could have hoped for.

Back to Blair the more I read the more I like. He is a firebrand but also growing into his future of an elderstatesmen of NZ League
