Is it just me, or is Blake Ayshford by far the most underrated player in our team?

Despite not having the speed, explosive ability or sheer size of Lawrence (and is therefore not on the path to superstardom), he is similar in that he is a very complete footballer. He also reminds me of Moltzen in that since his debut in first grade, he has never, ever looked like out of his depth. When there's a try on the table, Ayshford will generally make sure he carries it over the line, or delivers the pass at the right moment in time. A conversion rate of 8 tries from 15 matches is pretty handy. He's very solid in defence and I'm never concerned he's going to be beaten one on one. If it weren't for Jennings and Lawrence, he'd be a chance for City selection I would've thought. Definitely preferable to Pomeroy.

I suppose there's not much point to this post other to say that for all the ability he has demonstrated, Ayshford doesn't get the kudos he deserves
 
Blake Ayshford has done well since coming into the first grade.
He reminds me of the no nonsense, hard tough centres of years gone by like Ron Giteau.
he does his job and well.
a real quiet achiever, and an important cog in wests-tigers machine.
 
a very good player that will only get better - even better than then great ron giteau himself. He's hard to put down, and he's at the right place at the right time.
 
Im certainly a fan of Ayshford. The only thing i want him to work on is his ability to find his winger. He seems hesitant when he knows Ryan has space outside him and often mistimes his pass. Its something that he can fix and when he does, i expect big things from him. Peter Jackson and Paul McGregor like for mine.

He wants Ryan to come inside quite often,Ryan never reads this and Blake gets caught out,give him a decent winger(I don't mean Fitzy)who can read the play and he will star.

He's destined for the backrow in Sheens eyes.. although most centres at the club are. I don't see any reason to move him atm. Maybe when Taniela comes back there might be a push for Beau into right centre to accommodate.

But like TimmyB said, he made the transition to first grade quiet easily. He's a very reliable defender, looks a few yards quicker this season too. I'm a massive fan. Reminds me a little of Matt King.. when he puts on a few more kilos he'll be a real handful.
 
whats with sheens and small backrowers

why have a great centre and move him into the second row?
Like he doesnt need to move
We have Fifita, Dywer, Gower etc who are all bigger and better then him at being a forward
theres nothing wrong with him playing in the centres
why make a problem when theres no problem
 
He might not be lightning quick but he is definately faster than some people say. Also has some size aswell. I'd keep him in the centres.
 
I don't see the argument here… Our problem in depth lies in our forwards. Our whole entire backline would shine if we had our forwards moving like they should. Ayshford is a complete footballer, and last year has proven that he has got a long way to go before he reaches his peak. He doesn't belong anywhere other than the centres. He complements Lawrence who is a more impulsive and ad-lib player, Ayshford can always play sustainable and sensible footy.

Naah…All our players are crap.......none of them would get a gig at another club that's why they stay here...

I mean Ayshford is a poor man's Kenny-Dowall....

Oh wait ......wasn't Ayshford a Rorters junior.....Bwahahahaha....1 for the good guys....

Another young gun who STEPPED UP to the mark under Sheens....agree with previous poster...will only get better....
 
I totally agree. Ayshford has never had a bad game for the club and is a rock on our right side.

A lot of people say that he is not strong wen its quite the opposite he would have to be one of strongest in the club footy wise, he may not throw up big numbers in the gym but his core strength and the way he carries himself in attack makes him very difficut to bring down. Adding to this he has a great body shape for Rugby League that tall Greg Inglis stye frame with long arms and long legs maximises his strength all he needs to do is drop some puppy fat and fill out and he will definately be in line for some rep honours.

Also he is very quick he may not have blinding pace such as Lawrence off the mark (lets be honest not many in the NRL are) but he definately is as quick as if not very close to Moltzen and Marshall.
 
Ayshford is a big lad & as mentioned before i don't see him staying in the centres much longer.
Some might not agree but i think he could be an excellent lock whch he has played before & i think with him at lock it would bring a better balance to our squad,with Fulton moving to the bench and being our utility

He is doing GREAT job where he is.

Most good teams have backrow type players in the centres and when balanced out well it works a treat.
 
no need to move him, there is way to much talent coming through in the backrow anyways,with guys like Hyland and Dwyer
