Blake Ferguson

Dugan AND Ferguson?
We have enough trouble on the field let alone off it.
Mason had grown up and knew he was on his last chance…. we were stupid not to sign him.

SPEED! STRENGTH! WIN!

And who are your halves?

Sign someone reasonable not on big money for example

6\. Mortimer
7\. Brooks

Mortimer is a really good player but just needs a chance. And I would also look at Mulcahy for five eigth after half a season or so in state cup.

When you refute a position by substituting a similar but different proposition then refute it without ever addressing the original position, thats a textbook strawman.

Also I must have missed the part in Fergusons game where he wee's ambrosia on a consistent basis. Our backline struggled but thats not a reason to jump on a loose cannon just because he popped up (which he hasn't even done yet).

Our side needs help in other positions first.

Look if you don't think we should sign Ferguson that's fine, you are entitled to your opinion. But if he becomes available and we can sign him I see no difference to the Mason affair last year if we let someone else grab him. That is not a strawman argument in the slightest.

Is Ferguson an upgrade on what we have in our backline? I think the answer is a big fat yes, and people are either kidding themselves, or severely overrating our players if they don't think so.

If an opportunity arises we should take it. Yes, of course other areas need strengthening as well so if a prop or second rower came onto the market then we should look at them too if they are better players than what we have.

I won't be going into any facts on here to make you feel better about it. I'm happy with my position and you can take my comments as insinuations, allegations, dribble or whatever you like.

I think the point is that I fail to see the need why us or any other club needs to take a risk on any player that can't simply respect themselves. There are thousands of younger players or in some cases others who just need an opportunity and will come with respect and desire to play for themselves, their mates and the club.

That's fine - they are nothing but allegations. The facts are that Mason has been a great pickup for the Knights and we missed out. And we desperately needed a prop last year so all in all it was a ridiculous decision not to sign him.

Clubs need to take risks because that's what you do if you want to try and sign quality players. Look at Carney, no one wanted a bar of him after Canberra, the Roosters gave him a chance he got them to the grand final. Yes, he fell away after that but they got rid of him. Was he worth the risk? Of course he was. Just like it was worth the risk for Cronulla to sign him after that.

Have to agree to disagree I think.

I'm one to stand up and say I am happy that we didn't sign Mason. It's obvious here that a few don't know what goes on behind the scenes with him, but I will say no more on that. Sure, he is playing well in a good pack with a good coach and he has the home environment again. None of those things he would have had with us.

As for Ferguson, puhlease. Why the rush to sign a gold plated tool? I think we have some junior talent that would be a far better investment with our limited money.

Why don't we go through the various jails, mental institutions, drug and alcohol clinics and the rest of those quality places in the search for talent. I'm sure there are some good footballers amongst that lot too!

Let's just stick to quality, hard working, honest types. You know, normal people who have respect for themselves.

What goes on behind the scenes with Mason then? Unless you are going to tell us all then I'll take your insinuation for what it is: an insinuation. Nothing backed up by fact.

Fact: Mason was available for peanuts last year
Fact: Mason was signed by Bennett, one of the games most experienced and successful coaches. If he was such a cancer as you are hinting at Bennett wouldn't have touched him with a 10 ft pole
Fact: Mason has been outstanding since he was thrown a lifeline

Why rush to sign Ferguson? Well, there are plenty of reasons. The main two that our backline is in desperate need of speed, hight and aggression and the fact that he is a far better player than most of the players we have playing first grade.

Is he a risk? Of course. But beggars can't be choosers when you are in our situation with limited dollars and a mediocre squad.

As for sticking to "quality, hard working, honest types" well that has certainly won us plenty of football games lately, hasn't it? :crazy

they are opinions not facts.

Mason has been fine but it is not like either he or the Knights have been setting the world kn fire.
there are good reasons for not signing him

Really? You don't see it? Okay…

Ferguson left Cronulla to win a premiership, that was his reasoning for signing with Canberra. Unless something has changed, a pretty safe assumption to make is he won't sign with a club sitting last and got absolutely towelled up, unless almost every other club passes on him. The guy is also prone to some shocking brain snaps on the field and we already suffer from those enough. Throw in the fact he is an accessory to a team mate breaking team policy (so they can look like a pair of geese), he is one we might be better off steering clear of.

No to Fergo and no to Dugan.

Sorry but they are facts. He was available for a low cost, was signed by Bennett and has performed very well since he was picked up. No opinions in there, just the truth.

Mason was a risk but one that had to be taken given our situation (that's an opinion).

a fact is mason signed for $ x what is considered low cost is opinion (and subjective)
if he was a cancer Bennett wouldn't touch him is opinion (but probably well founded)
describing Bennett as the most successful coach is opinion (obviously well founded)
and Mason's form is clearly subjective and opinion.

a fact would be something like mason had averaged X meters per game and the Knights win % with mason doubles compared to him not playing or whatever. any conclusion you draw from that is opinion

For those who think Mason would have been a good signing, can I be genuine for just a minute and ask your opinion on these things:

1) Do you think he would have performed just as well in a Tigers pack that is not the size or calibre of the current Knights pack?
2) Do you think he would have performed as well under Sheens or Potter as he has under Bennett?
3) Do you think he would have been as happy living in Sydney and playing/training at Concord/CSS/Leichhardt etc as opposed to living in the area in which he grew up, with family close etc.

Serious questions. I'm not having a shot at anyone, just asking for honest opinions.

And regardless of the answers, do you think Blake Ferguson would perform considering these similar questions? (Not so much the forwards question, but the coaches and environment questions)

We will never know Swordy , but you make some excellent points

But we will need to take some chances in the coming seasons as we aren't going to be able to make the changes we need to make personnel wise in one season imo

I'm not a Blake ferguson fan personally (Attitude wise) , but after Monday I'm not a Lawrence ,Utai,Ayshford or Moltzen fan skill or attitude wise either

By the way ,Lawrence had to be carrying a shoulder injury , he couldn't have got even worse in 6 months

I agree, Lawrence has a shoulder problem, he looked like he was playing touch football out there on Monday Night. Also i think thats why Reddy was named on the bench, the team named yesterday will change before Sunday i hope.

Hypotheticals eh?
Its all opinion….but he DID perform well in the pack whose team finished below us last year....that tells me something

2) Do you think he would have performed as well under Sheens or Potter as he has under Bennett?

Dont care about Sheens, but I think he'd be helpful to Potter as a rookie coach, as we all are hoping anasta will be re: experience....he's a team player, a natural leader, bonds the team well from what Ive seen at the Knights, not many players in their first year at a club can call the entire side around them and address them onfield mid- game as Ive seen him do several times at Newcastle....he commands and gains respect. I think he couldve been very helpful to Potter

3) Do you think he would have been as happy living in Sydney and playing/training at Concord/CSS/Leichhardt etc as opposed to living in the area in which he grew up, with family close etc.

Probably not...but hes been to two sydney clubs before and hes a big boy so he knows how to look after himself

Serious questions. I'm not having a shot at anyone, just asking for honest opinions.

Fergo to me shows a lack of respect to himself and others despite his obvious on field talents....and hed be more problems for Potsy ....our coach has enough

As Ive said we should fix our problems - theres many - were they begin, and thats up front

I agree with some, sure Mason had baggage, but to his credit, he kept training by himself, not team affiliation. You put the troublmakers on game payments. You don't play well, no payment. You bugger up, no payment. If its too bad, dump him to reserves or rip up any contract you have with him. When ther is a meal ticket, and you don't know where your next cheque is coming from, that hunger and commitment to play well kicks in. Its like someone prodding you with a cow prodder. Some of these guy just need a mentor and a winning side keeps their mind on the footy, not other things. Ferguson would definatley add something to the backline. Sign him if available.

turd ferguson is an over rated tool.
the only player in the game to be over powered by moltzen in a game.
this is just an income to him.

geez people, have some self respect ffs.
