Blame us, not Taylor: Tigers players

Wests Tigers players are urging the club's fans to blame them, not coach Jason Taylor, for their 54-point NRL drubbing by Canberra.

Taylor and his team have just five days to turn things around between Saturday's humiliatingly 60-6 defeat and Thursday's clash with a desperate South Sydney, but already there off-field distractions.

Stand-in co-captain Chris Lawrence was forced to address fan discontent at their only full on-field training session for the week on Monday, after a petition was started by Tigers fans calling for Taylor's head in the aftermath of a sixth straight loss. "That performance had nothing do with him as coach," Lawrence said. "That's on us as players and we know that." "On the weekend it was just an attitude thing. And that was on individuals. It's got nothing to do with the coach or the way we prepare for a game plan or anything like that."

Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe also stood by Taylor, declaring on Sunday he would remain the club's coach for at least the 2016 season.

His comments did little to hose down speculation that the coach was on the outer with his players after footage emerged of a seemingly despondent Taylor not addressing the team during halftime.
But Wests Tigers winger Jordan Rankin insisted the footage had been taken out of context.

"That's a bit of vision that's cut up," he said. "We do the same thing every week - Jason comes in and has his word and then the assistant coaches say their part." Rankin said the players had taken the embarrassing loss to heart. "It was a disgraceful (on-field) performance … We didn't see it coming and we were ashamed to be a part of that performance."

Making matters worse, the Tigers could be without prop Tim Grant against the Rabbitohs, as he struggles to overcome a leg injury.

Already without injured prop and captain Aaron Woods, they ran for 800 metres less than the Raiders on Sunday and they are set to face a big and frustrated Rabbitohs pack including at least two of the Burgess brothers. However fellow stand-in co-captain Dene Halatau, who is expected to play despite minor surgery on his hand on Sunday, believed the short turnaround was welcome for the Tigers. "The preparation is definitely restricted a bit," he said. "But it could be a good thing. We've got to get over that game really quickly. The quicker we can put that behind us probably the better."

Pure inspiration from coach Taylor at half-time.

I haven't had much to say after such a disheartening loss, but it should be obvious that it was just a moment in time and cut to by the broadcaster at that time for maximum effect. We were poor, but did not give up. Seventy plus percent of possession against any team will do that.

People without a mind of their own swallow this crap up.
Some on the net post this rubbish ad nauseam to the point where its of propoganda proportions.

That said, JT still is very poor in these situations…I really think his physical presence (small thin ugly bloke) plays a bit on peoples perceptions of him too....when they shouldnt

Don't worry Rowdy, we do. This playing group are proven failures, losers. But people get attached to players so it's easier to pin it on the coach. This is the second coach they've failed under, and unless changes are made they will fail under the next one to. Then maybe people will finally realise this playing group are a massive part of the rot.

Sorry but milone, Lovett and bucanan if fit were/would all be picked by this genius coach!
No accountability, that's your coach….
Jobs for the boys, same #### different smell!
And I forgot the players should motivate themselves because the coach doesn't.

If we wait until the end of the year, there won't be any descent coaches left. That's how we got Taylor in the first place!
Do we want to waist another year next season for th new coach saying he needs time to get his own roster etc, etc

I think some perspective is required here. How long have Brooks and Moses been around for ? Are we as supporters really attached to these players ?

Are the playing group really proven failures ? Do we need to sack them all ? Is Tedesco a failure ?

My opinion is that you are exaggerating significantly how big the problem really is.

I say yes for the pure amusement of watching some on the forum blame it all on another coach.

You are correct perceptions of people often counts more than the reality.

Broom the place.

The only ones worth feeding are Lawrence, Woods and Tedesco.

would add simona to this this three player list, otherwise would have no objections to a massive clean out at all.

Journo should have asked Rowdy which players will be dropped this week.

If nobody's dropped then the responsibility goes back onto the coach

I didn't see the game so I can't comment but a scoreline like that just shows that we are utterly crap and many players need a reality check.

JT can stay till the end of the year anyway as the Season is done and dusted…..where we finish on the Ladder and the wins and loss ratio will dictate whether the board keep him on for next year.
I struggle to think that any other Coach will improve this Squad as there is many State Cup players but some selections made from JT? Really leave you scratching your head and the way his used them of the bench this year ( Buchanan, Cherrington, Aloiai, Milone, Lovett).

Like CB says a massive player cleanout is required but until we get on top of the Salary cap....nothing will change.
Only a massive supporter will help out with TPA's, cause Potentially we got nothing and there is nothing attractive in investing in this Organisation.
If the NRL had to reduce teams? We would be the 1st side gone.
The joys of supporting this Club.

****

Players at NRL level shouldn't need the coach to motivate them. If they need motivating every game they shouldn't be playing at this level.

Bingo. The money and the love for the game should be enough of a motivator.
