Board Needs To Be Held Accountable

Ok one. If you are seriously rating Fifita higher than Chris Lawrence you're delusional.
Secondly Fifita wanted to leave and has decided that the Money offered by the Sharks is too good to refuse, the tigers could not match the offer and Andrew has decided to take the Sharks deal. Cannot blame him most would do the same. The Tigers have thier Salary cap budgets and this is one they just couldn't compete with.
What is the alternative what do you expect the club to do? If the club refuse to let Fifita go we have a unmotivated player not performing using up valuable cap money.
It's sad yes but the reality of modern football.
Yes we have made room for other players possibly Blair and to retain current players.

please learn to post if you have your facts right. You are wasting our time.

No! The WTs did not cheat the cap last year.
The WTs claimed the dispensation for NRL players (Farah and Gibbs from memory) who had been with the Club since they played under 20s.
In a highly controversial decision the NRL ruled that the dispensation is only available if the under 20s comp those NRL players were in was the current National Youth Comp. Gibbs and Farah played under 20s before the NYC was created.

The NRL ruled the comp (jersey flegg) gibbs & farah played in and were developed from were not available to all current NRL clubs - thats why we were denied the claim and ordered with a breach notice

As I said, a controversial decision that discriminates against Clubs - like Balmain and Wests, that supported junior rugby league and unfairly helps Clubs like the Storm.

The board is accountable and makes decisions in the best interests of the club, somtimes they are not popular but they are correct.

They are doing a great job imo.

That may be so, but we knew what their stand was and we went ahead regardless.
Good one Humpty.
Yet another stuff up

100% right, but at the end of the day rightly or wrongly the NRL ruled against us so we have been in a pickle ever since. Now the club is trying everything in their power to squeeze Blair into their roster for 2012 without having the cap police come down on them. A team like the West Tigers who have such a strong junior programe in place should be rewarded but the NRL are two busy trying to protect their weak markets rather than their grass roots

My thoughts exactly, the club knew what the rule was, they had a clear message from the NRL that what they were going to do was not allowed and went ahead with it anyway. To blame anyone but themselves for the stuff up is ridiculous.

As I said in the previous thread about this subject in regards to Gibbs and Farah Before the BRoncos game last year in Brisbane myself and a mate were talking about this very subject . We did not realize how far we were over the cap ( We guessed less than 100 K). I thought this was pretty common knowledge among many Tigers supporters The club knew very well what they were doing and were basically going into this with fingers crossed attitude and hoped that the NRL could be swayed . Obviously with the amount of players we are now letting go the Lawyers have told us we won't win this case we were talking of bringing against NRL .

By the number of varying opinions in this thread alone, the board will never make decisions that will please everyone. I must admit I am a fan of Steve Humphreys and he seems to talk alot of sense. I also think it was better to resign the likes of Ayshford, Lawrence, Farah and Marshall who have proven their worth and play in positions harder to replace then forwards (and i say that with no disrespect to our forwards), than lose them to sign Fifita (who I do rate). I would question the board more if they signed Fifita for $250k to keep him but not worth that much, than letting him go to allow us to resign those players I mentioned aswell as Blair.

It seem's incomprehensible that the board has agreed to let Fifita & Gibbs leave without knowing Adam Blair has signed & agreed to join the Wests Tigers next year. How any club would allow a player ( Fifita ) that they have developed & brought through there system with so much untapped potential & ability in front of him leave is mind boggling. :bash No one would disagree that Blair would be a great signing & addition to any club but not at the reported amount of money that is being banded around. To have a player that in my opinion would be ranked as our 4th best player at the club, being on that amount of money can't be justified or any good for team harmony. For the record, i rate Benji #1 Farah #2 & Heighington #3 Everyone understand's that the board have to make tough & sometime's unpopular decision's from time to time, but some of the decision's lately seem DUMB & not putting our club first. They didn't want to resign Benji as they felt he hadn't provided the club great value with all the injuries he had suffered early in his career. Also not wanting to resign Sheens because apart from winning the comp in 05, we never made the semi's.On paper that might of seemed understandable but regardless whoever the coach was, we had injuries & until recently we never have had the depth to cover for injuries. So even if we had Wayne Bennet coaching our side in those years, it wouldn't of made a difference.Judge him of where or club was when he first joined us & where we are today.I admit i don't have a clue who these untouchable people making the decisions are, i just hope it's not made up of half balmain tigers & half western suburbs administrators from when we merged. At the time, that would of been the only logical way to move forward as a joint venture, but we are no longer balmain or wests, we are the mighty Wests Tigers & unless we have independent people of those clubs, making the decisions, we will never move forward or make the correct decisions for our great club.

The board is accountable to the performance of Wests Tigers, of which recruitment plays a role. However they delegate recruitment to the admin team as they do not have the expertise. I would be concerned if the board started getting involved in recruitment decisions.

How about letting the decisions of the board come into effect before putting them to the sword?

You'll all look bloody silly if we win the premiership after all the recruitment decisions are made and come into effect…

Yep. That's the thing isn't it. Letting Fifita go seems the wrong decision however we don't know the whole situation. I'd put money on it they tried to get rid of Fulton but he wasn't wanted.

Time will tell how things turn out.

Can anyone let me know if Blair is really worth it, I don't watch many Storm games but I saw last Monday nights game against the Roosters and despite being Captain I barely sighted him, is it because there are a lot of Polynesians in the Storms forwards or is he really over rated?.
When the club signed Gareth Ellis I had never heard of him but he hasn't looked back so the right decision was made with the Pom but I can recall back in the mid 80's the Balmain Tigers signed a then current Kiwi International in Bruce Gall and he turned out to be a complete dud!.

Blair is good. The more I've thought about him in our pack, the more I like it. He's a smart disciplined player. Heighno, Ellis and Blair… That is one awesome backrow.
