Braith Anasta and Tim Moltzen set to leave the tigers ??

agreed haberfield, i'd like to see him at 5/8 for the 9's comp and all trials alternating with him and Austin, to see how they go with brooks. If either shows something, keep em there for 5 rounds or so.

Sweet baby Jeebus…......

Have you guys WATCHED him play over the past 5/6 years? He HAS played 5/8 before and was terrible. He has ZERO passing game, in fact he is a bad hog and I have no idea where the myth that he was a half/58 came from (don't bore me with that old chestnut about winning x games with him at half, we won in spite of him, we could in those days). Even Tim Sheens saw that he had zero passing game and moved him to fullback because the one thing he could do is run into a gap set up by Benji. However when he discovered there was more involved in fullback play such as catching bombs and kick returns he promptly wet himself.

On what basis do you guys want him back in the halves?

I have watched him, and he has played good games in the halves.

Sorry you don't agree, but its true.

If the plan is to play Austin at 6 we really don't need either of them

They will have to name Moses in the Top 25 at least for back up at 6 We don't have a choice whether he is ready or not

Its not "true". Its your opinion

Fair enough.

Maybe you shouldn't use phrases like "in fact" while lecturing and belittling the rest of the forum about your opinions on a particular player?

You took pretty much the only TRUE piece of information about winning X amount of games with him as a halfback, and rubbished it while lording your own OPINIONS over everyone else.

IMO it comes down to Austin and Moltzen. If I were Potter I'd let them prove themselves in the off season, best player gets the spot.

Probably need him for depth I guess

Definitely need him for depth. If Austin or whoever is first choice for 5/8 doesn't worn out we're more or less screwed. I mean, look out how Miller not working out damage us this season. We need a good backup half.

At the end of my post I asked what it was that made you and I think one other suggest Moltzen was a viable option in the halves. Is it his passing game? Kicking game? I am asking for facts, in the absence of any known evidence.

You are suggesting that Moltzen be given the offseason to "prove" himself in the offseason? Has he not had the last six years to "prove" himself? We haven't really had a half since Prince with a brief blip with Lui. The team and coach have been screaming for a half and Moltzen has had years to prove himself worthy. He has proven he is not up to it. What makes you think that this offseason is "the one"?

Don't put words in my mouth about this off season "the one". Fact is he is under contract and will be in the top 25 squad whether we like it or not, telling him try and earn a spot is all I am doing. Think about it, is telling Austin/Moltzen to rip and do battle for the position they want, a bad thing?

To be clear, I lean towards Austin to start the year. But I want Potter to make an informed decision based on how players perform and combine on the field for 2014, not just how they used to go under a different coach a few years ago.

That is the way forward. And believe me I have criticized Moltzen many times on here, I am far from a fanboi, or wanting him to be gifted spots in the starting side.

EDIT: And as for Moltzens abilities, I think he has a decent short passing game, he can run the ball, find gaps/overlaps and knows how to support (although he could do it better). With Brooks playing we would have an actual halfback running things, I don't expect miracles from Moltzen but I think he can do the job until Moses is ready to come into grade. TBH I don't think Austin has a huge repertoire of skills over Moltzen, he is more a player in the mold of Bird.

In the end it comes down to how the team fits and plays, and that won't be seen until we hit the off season.

Im not putting words in your mouth. This thread is about the premise that Moltzen could/should/would leave the club, forced or under his own volition. you said he should be given an offseason to "prove" himself. I'll ask again. Why would this offseason be any different?

he started in 2008- played 10 games and was stuffed around and never settled into a position.
2009- did good at halfback. true, he wasn't excellent but did quite OK.
2010- almost all year gone with knee reco
2011- again never settled in a position until the very end. part of city's team in that year.
2012- everyone in the team had a below par performance.
2013- showed a LOOTT of improvement under potter and at halfback in the half a game he looked good.

i hope these don't look like excuses but are some of the reasons that he deserves another go. not to mention, he still has a contract with us.

what u said before about making the halfback position between prince and lui- he was and never has played halfback in his life. even now, everyone wants him to play 5/8\. he's not replacing prince/lui- he's replacing marshall.

players like fulton, farah, simona, blair and even teddy have improved under potter- moltzen deserves a chance too.

I edited my reasons before you posted, have another read:

And this thread has taken on more then just a "Moltzen could/should/would leave the club" discussion, and onto who could/should/would be in the halves. You jumped in all **Sweet baby Jeebus…......** and proceeded to rant about your opinions.

Don't know if this article has already done the rounds ?
