Braith Anasta to retire

I remember last off season Braith saying he was fitter than ever.

Yep, the familiar and well worn phrase of "training the house down" is only a month or two away from getting a mention. Waiting…...............

Never trained harder was last years motto

How do you top that ??

over training -> injuries? just a thought, i'd have no idea.

but Anasta was pretty fast vs. Dragons when he chased down chase stanely in the final minute in a great try save.

they probably did train hard last off season, but training hard isn't the same nor as good as training smart. hopefully the new coaching staff including potter who didnt plan the preseason IIRC as he came in too late.

i get the feeling that a lack of media info from players about how hard they're working is a good thing. means they're focused and determined, they look that way in the pics at least.

you probably dont hear DCE bragging about how hard they've worked and the same with manly players.

to an extent ive got rose coloured glasses with anasta, as i used to think he was a good player and still hold hope that he can be really beneficial for brooks and the team playing in 6.

having said that, i think his body may just have had enough of the hard hits and is not doing so well.

also, what is IIRC?

It will be interesting to see who gets the #6 jersey. I don't think Anasta should be anywhere near the back row and Halutau is definitely a far better bench utility.

However, we all loved Brooks on his debut, maybe playing alongside Anasta helped that? If Brooks and Robbie are doing all the organising, Anasta could just slot in when needed. At least he can defend well enough.
But then on the other hand, Austin is young and hungry and has a far better running game than Anasta.

decisions decisions

Anasta i think will be very important to us next season as we dont have a leader in the 6 or 7 next year. Hes a structured player and if we have a simple game plan he will do fine. Him in the 6 next season will benefit brooks long term IMO.

We are all assuming that Brooks will need the mentoring…. or that he needs it from within the halves. For all we know he may be all but ready in his own skin, and turning to his captain and hooker Robbie may be all he needs.

what a strange assumption. to think an 18 year old with 1 NRL game who is expected to play at 7 for every game he can, for the forseeable future might need help from someone other than the hooker who has many other responsibilities within the team. :unamused:

i don't know whether a new halves coach, an experienced 6 or maybe mick potter & co. is the best way to mentor him. but him and moses WILL need help and advice from someone other than farah.

you probably believe that in the Dragons game he needed the support of Anasta and Benji…. it was the opposite, they needed help from him, proven by every other game in the season. That 18 year old kid with at the time zero games NRL experience, elevated the games of veterans whom were playing like weekend warriors for most of the season...

All I am saying is that I am not so sure he needs much more help on the park than Farah helping him survey the options, its not like its extra burden on Robbie, its his game, even in origin he does it, the guy just isnt a normal hooker. Im not too sure what benefit we would see from pairing Anasta with Brooks, on the "experience in the halves" rhetoric, only thing I possibly see as a benefit would be Brooks once again dragging Braith along on his coat tails.

Phyre, I think you misunderstood my post in context of the thread.

Anasta is past it and we cannot afford to allow him time in the No 6 when he is set to retire at the end of the season. Brooks needs to with someone for the long term. My choice is Sironen, but I seem to be in the minority with this.

based on 1 game against a 3rd last team who we (as a team) played extremely well against. i simply don't think that you can say 'anasta was riding on brooks' coattails.' brooks will need help in 2014, and as I said i dunno if braith is the one to do it, or a specialised halves coach or maybe potter can do it.

but you're presenting him as though he is already joey johns and that he's perfect when he is nothing close to that. even if he wins rookie of the year in 2014 he has a LOT of growing to do.

Brooks has some wonderfully soft hands - reminds me of when Rob Lui was peaking with us, and how Lui played towarfs the end of last year.

Guindance from Anasta can only be a benefit - the bloke has played only a couple of hundred first grade games… :stuck_out_tongue:

if this is his last year then i give you this gift, This was a little video us Roosters fans/players and management put together to fair well this legend.

Go and loiter around the Steggles factory Roosterman… with a bit of luck you might get your head lopped off

Sure Braith would be distraught that a few fair weather Rooster peckerheads think that he is a nuffy. The same people that woulda been kissing his arse for many years I'd assume when he first joined from the Bulldogs.

thats a bit far isnt it? and trust me i am not a fair weather supporter, i have been very critical of Bwaith for years. Now stop being so mean and play nice!

Yeah I'm sure you were hating him when he basically won the semi-final for you against the Tigers a few seasons back.

It was an Excellent moment no doubt, but that was his last good season, And Honestly i wouldn't have cared if he played bad in 2011 and 2012 as long as he TRIED…But he clearly didn't give a shit . THAT IS WHAT I CRITICIZE HIM FOR, Not that he is bad, but that he doesn't put 100% effort in, He just took the clubs money in 11,12 and then when he sponged all he could he bluffed you guys into thinking he was a good player (By giving 100% against you guys in 2012). And now he is doing what he always has done, Coming out with a news story about how he is fitter then ever and can't wait to start the season, Prepare for more Bwaith articles because he is already starting to edge his way into a media career post Footy, If i remember correctly he was doing some side line announcing for fox sports last year.
