Breaking news: HBG takeover

I have just joined because I believe that this is I have been a tiger supporter all my life I'm now 70
I was a Balmain support but now I'm not a Balmain nor a western suburbs magpie supporter I'm a wests tigers supporter
I would hope that the NRL get involved and sack th HBG for bringing the NRL into disrepute
The HBG are making the NRL look like a 2nd class organisation
I've been a loyal supporter all my life but if this is what is happening the Swans may be my new winter sport to follow and I can't stand AFL
Welcome LWT you have exactly my profile and I support everything you have said.

It's a conspiracy theory reach, but if in fact their plan is to bring back the Magpies it definitely won't happen if the club is a successful sporting organisation.

it’s not my theory ..someone else mentioned it … it needs to be ruled out publicly by the NRL in my view .,.then it won’t be an issue , conspiracy theory or not

Yeah, I agree. I’m an old Magpie who couldn’t give two shits about HBG. But there is definitely an element of posters who are using this just to grind an ax at the Magpies and ex Magpies supporters in general. Like claims that there are Magpies supporters celebrating this. Total bullshit. Maybe the fanatics, or a couple dinosaurs calling 2SM. But no one here.

I was a Balmain guy that went to more magpies games in the 80's and 90's then Balmain games went to the first game at Campbelltown a friend purchased a house in woodbine so game day was

Walk down that hill
Go to the Leumeah Hotel
Get half tank
Get out of the Leumeah Hotel alive it was a hell hole in the 80's
Get in the ground
But the lucky dip tickets they use to sell first last try scored
Drink more
Go past the bottleo to pickup a few more to go home with then
To the Maccs or sizzler
Then back up that f..ing Hill

But West are dead so is Balmain

So. I have, until this turn of events, been one of the 'dinosaurs' who has long-dreamed of an 'unmerge' and the return of Balmain as a standalone entity. First game at Leichhardt in '83 blah blah blah. What has happened over the last couple of days, as well as making me furious, has made me finally realise that bringing Balmain back isn't going to happen and shouldn't happen. They were 'my club', but they aren't 'the club' (and nor of course are the Magpies) of the vast majority of people who support the Wests Tigers. For them, the Wests Tigers are their club. Which is great. It's been 25 years (minus one) of hurt for everyone involved in the JV. It's time we all move on, both from the old tribes and certainly from this ridiculous governance model that isn't fit to run an under 8s team. Given how angry this has made me, I finally realise the Wests Tigers are now 'my club'. I'm all in - I live in the UK and get up at half 4 to watch every game so this has always been obvious in hindsight. But the point being, if I can move on I figure anyone can. And if you can't leave the past behind - I get that. It's cool. But it doesn't help anyone really. Let's finally put all this old stuff to bed. If you want to watch Balmain or the Magpies, there is plenty of stuff on Youtube to keep you going. But if you want to be on the train, let's just move forward, sort this out, and become the powerhouse we really ought to be.
(Mostly) preaching to the converted on here. It’s our dysfunctional ownership board (and realistically the NRL) that need to make us move forward as a club.

Not sure they think that far ahead tbh..
If PVL gets involved as is inevitable for the benefit of the game,it will be a game changer...if he doesnt...the clowns will get to run the circus
PVL is way too smart to allow that to happen
Let hope…

This issue has been around a while …thought the NRL could have put it to bed years ago

This whole situation has pissed me off so much. I feel the only way that the Wests Tigers can move forward is to cut any ties with Balmain and the Magpies. Both factions of the joint venture have been killing this club for its entire existence. We need a board that is solely Wests Tigers people. All our pathways need to be Wests Tigers. Its generally the only way forward for the club.

Although I commend the guys for taking the initiative with the Mayor, one or 20 demonstrations at Pratten Park isn't going to provide any lasting change.

Complaining to HBG is futile. The real leverage is the licence...which is ARL/NRL controlled.

Efforts should be directed at the NRL to force a sale to guarantee licence renewal. Simple and clean.

The motivation to sell for HBG is in the fact that if they don't, they carry an asset worth nothing if the licence won't be renewed.

Really it's the only shot to remove these bastards.

I think the NRL would be motivated because HBG are an embarrassment and it also removes the Wests/Balmain drama in one go.

Unfortunately some folks just keep throwing down the bedcovers and jumping out of the cot!....
Issue has been perculating for a while apparently.just when we all thought it has moved on...and it needs to be brought to a finale...and this will backfire on the not so smart self serving clowns and will be the catalyst for a major change
PVL is too smart to allow this to happen to the key expansion area for NRL plus an established brand
